What this hat has from Raiders, is the block shape, with it's very straight sides. We have had discussions lately, that the Raiders hat may not have been as tall as we thought, so I am really not sure yet, how this crown height compares. We need to see more of it.
The brim is much more of a continuation of LC as opposed to Raiders. There is no turn, and apparently, Spielberg likes the smaller brim of the LC hat. It gives him a better view of Harrison's face on closeups.
I know we were all hoping for an asymmetrical, wavy cool brim, and tight front pinch, like the Cairo hat, but it looks like we aren't going to get it. Once we get to see the movie and see the hat in action from all different angles, we will know more.

Oh, I do have one hope, that people in the production keep picking this hat up by the front pinch and it keeps getting tighter and tighter, and by the end of the movie, we have a Raiders front pinch. That would be a nice way for the Indy fedora to come full circle.
Da da da daaa, da da daa.....

Fedora wrote:From my perspective today, (and it is a brand new perspective in some ways), we can thank Deborah for the Raiders fedora. And NO ONE ELSE. I want to emphasize that. That was her hat, and I guarantee you, there was no accidents involved in the hat looking the way that it does. It was planned. That warped brim was done on purpose, and was not a happy accident. It was done for a reason. And because of this, as far as many Indyfans go, she was a genius. That hat is just so non typical of a dress fedora. And she altered the hat to represent what she saw as Indy's brown fedora. Her vision still stands out today as this board has been a witness to.
Fedora! Sooooo true!
And Bufflehead - I am keeping my fingers crossed for the front pinch as well
Take care,

I would love to see the return of the Raiders styled fedora, but I figure Indy matured, and took better care of his hats. His early hat was beat to ####, and maybe he opted for a slightly more sophisitcated look, ala Last Crusade bash.

This is off the hat discussion but it does relate to the photo posted by Jaredraptor. The storage unit for the hats - a buddy of mine did the packaging for a product that looked identical to this. My guess is that it is the product. It is made of canvas and has velcro holders on the top so you can fasten in to the clothing bar in your closet. The company gives him samples for the photos and he gave me one a few years ago.
I may not have the Indy 4 hat but I do have the Indy 4 hat holder!

Actually I am quite sure they sell this product at Walmart (but I won't mention the name of the company that makes them so as to not violate the NO VENDER TALK Policy!)

CJ, you crack me up. I have one of those things in my closet which holds sweaters, etc. I think I found it at Target. Still, it would make a good hat holder!

Well, if by the end of Indy 4 the fedora has a Raiders pinch, then my hat'll be SA.

Guys,
There's another shot from that video that no one has posted here. It's one of Indy being flanked/restrained by two soldiers. I think we can get another angle of the fedora in this shot. Can someone post it?

It looked alright enough in the video, but when i tried to take a screenshot, I found that it was really hard to see anything. I'll try to put it up later anyway, but if you haven't already seen it, don't get your hopes up.

Here it is. Even after I tried to edit the picture, it's still not very clear.

Thanks for that Mr. Brody...
Despite the grainy quality, it's the only shot we have of the fedora on Ford's head from a frontal angle. Humm, the hat is pulled back a bit, but it's my impression that this hat has no 'Raiders' in it at all. The crown isn't as big, pronounced as some of us have ventured. And the brim is narrow. No front pinch... This looks to me to be virutally 100% LC...
But it makes sense, I guess. That's probably the hats they had lying around at Skywalker Ranch. It may have been a matter of getting the hat provider to make exact dulplicates... The same can be said for the jacket, by the way.
Not my favorite Indy fedora, but at least we don't have a ToD taper trainwreck...

I'm pretty sure that the gear in Indy IV are not exact duplicates of the gear from any of the other movies SPECIFICALLY. Instead, I would think that while they may use previous props and designs for reference, they probably created a hybrid.

I think its a little early to second guess some of the gear though - we have clear shots of the shirt from Spielberg's publicity still. But until I see nice good stills of the rest of the gear I'll hold off making too many judgements.

I agree. I think at this point I can only say that I don't see anything I dislike.

In the end I think most of us will be satisfied with what we'll get to see in the movie. Oh yes, there will be something for all of us to nit pick in one fashion or another, but all in all the "look" will give us all our Indy high that we have been craving for some time now. I know we won't get to have the 'Raiders" Indy, bit it will be Indy nonetheless.
Cheers!

Hm.......dunno. They're probably stunt hats, so it's not neccessary for them to be exact carbon copies.

My guess would be that the one with the tighter pinch has been used (or used more). I think that's the one that gets picked up in the video clip, too, supporting the idea that the second hat is the one currently seeing action. Just my hypothesis.
Or maybe, when the aliens clone a bunch of Indy's, the only way you can tell the real Indy is by the tighter pinch of his hat and the off-center placement of his jacket pockets!

This pic might clarify that it is indeed a loose pinch like LC fo IV

I think the top hat's pinch relaxed. Not to worry, I am sure the costumer pulled out his ruler and pinched it to the specified pinch width prior to using it.

Another tease. There no knowing if this is even a film hat, or just a publicity-photo-display-only hat. Pinch looks a little tighter in this one, though it may just be a trick of the light.

I don't think that's a lighting trick: comparing that hat and my Mayser (held at the same angle), the pinches look nearly identical. Now we need to find out if that's a film hat or just a publicity hat.

Not only is that the clearest image, it also shows what looks like a tighter pinch than the LC fedora. Not quite a Raiders pinch, but still.....looks somewhat tight.
