Anyone who knows the Raiders jacket can see the differences in some of the cosmetics of the jackets very easily. I think what people are getting at here is that these jackets were indeed made specifically with the stunts in mind, hence, a stunt jacket. Peter had stated that a larger yoke was for better ease of movement and that a much smaller yoke (on the hero jackets) would restrict that movement, especially upper arm movement. This is what the truck stunt required so Occum's razor once again tells me that this had to be specifically asked for, unless this was a prototype that was used out of the batch of ordered jackets because it had a larger yoke.
Also notice the side vents are closed about 2 inches or so from the bottom of the jacket but the side construction looks different than the hero jacket.
Then the pockets do look rather small. Illusion? I'll even buy that. But if those are the correct sized pockets and there is no illusion present, than those are not the FS pockets.
I value anyones opinion as well as my own, especially _ who knows more about the jackets than anyone I can think of. I simply disagree that there were no stunt jackets. I think that these were made specifically with the stunt work in mind since this was a big stunt movie. To me it makes perfect sense. I also agree that it was most likely the same company who made all the jackets even though we toyed with the possibility that USWings could have been in the mix too. I sort of think the TL jacket looks like a Wings, but that's just a matter of opinion.
While I'm not sure you could classify them as 'stunt jackets' I think that's a term that we applied here for them. Cuz it's more than obvious the jacket in the pics above would not look like the hero jacket at all if Ford put in on. It would look like a TOD jacket, which it later became. Perhaps they wouldn't be termed that in the industry, but I think it's a term that fits well here.
Actually, you have it backwards. A smaller yoke would give you more pleated back, giving you more ease of movement. A US navy G-1 has no yoke, and anyone that has one will tell you that these jackets offer the most unrestricted free movement. I think that it’s a mistake to look for logical reasons for minor differences in the jackets. That jacket does look like a TOD for sure. I believe that _ said that Terry used three jackets while filming Raiders (one of which he still owns). All three could have minor differences. Cheers

think Fedora is referring to the area at the bottom of the jacket just in front of the side straps. That does look like a set of pleats, but considering this is a VERY distressed lambskin jacket, I believe it's just really wrinkled leather in that area.
I think I may not be discussing what you guys are!!!
I was referring to this one.
I can clearly see the pleat spread open. You have the back seam that forms the pleat, and the other inner sewn seam that ends the pleat. There is even a gap at the bottom of the jacket where the pleat ends. Now, I know I must be off base, and you guys are talking about something else entirely. I guess I need to reread all of the posts again. What I see is so obvious, that you guys could not have missed it.
I am feeling like a dummy-again.

When making a jacket, does the neck size and/or circumference of the upper end of the sleeve (arm hole on body of jacket) change with the jacket size? Inquiring minds want to know.

I think PLATON means that the side vent is sewn to within an inch or two of the bottom. It's normally open up to the strap.

My feeling exactly. You can't look at the pic above and say it looks just like a Raiders side vent.
Actually, you have it backwards. A smaller yoke would give you more pleated back, giving you more ease of movement
I'm just going by Peter's word. He said that when using a smaller yoke as in the case of the Raiders jacket, it woudl restrict upper arm movement. Your case of no yoke would seem to make the most sense for the most movement, but it makes sense to me that if you have a seam across the upper part of the back that it would be rather constricting or at least feel tight when you lift your arms.
Now, alot of you old timers are way more experienced in leather jackets that myself, so you'd know best. I'm just saying that what Peter explained seemed a very reasonable explanation to me.
I'm not going to but I believe his post is still somewhere in the archives when discussing the back panel and why Wested would not raise it higher as we see it in the film.

But it's pretty clear that at least one of the jackets (but not the one that the Expedition is based on) that Terry Leonard wore in Raiders has the same "TOD" construction as the one HF wears in TOD. Peter made all the jackets for Raiders. At this point I have to agree with Paterson's info that many of the jackets used in TOD were just left over Raiders jackets. Cheers
