Remember the whole scene in 'Witness' where the boy is describing the man he saw, and he says he wasn't 'schtumpfig' (or whatever, meaning a runt), like Harrison's partner. At which point Harrison says, "He was a big guy? Like me?"
I distinctly recall reading or seeing an interview with him somewhere in which the interviewer flat out asked him how tall he was, and he said 6'1". But this was several years ago.
One possible explanation for the controversy may be aging. People get shorter as they get into their fifties and sixties, particularly if they are hard on their joints (i.e. doing a lot of your stunts). A woman I know who can't be over 45 told me she has shrunk a couple inches, and her doctor told her it was from the cumulative effect of jogging on concrete sidewalks for 25 years.
Moreover, people tend to state the height at which they maxed out, even if they have since gotten shorter. Especially men. It's a matter of pride, somehow. Loss of height was recently reported to be American men's #1 fear with regard to aging.

That's an excellent point, Schwammy. I must have seen or heard that same interview, because I was always under the impression that he was 6'1".
Much to my dissappointment, I never grew to be as tall as my dad, who stood 6 ft. even. I never passed 5'10". But due to the aging process, there has been "shrinkage"(he's 66, and I'm 38 ). Unfortunately, I think I'm the one shrinking. Either that or Dad is still growing.

When you get older you shrink but your only talking about a 1/2 or 1 inch over an entire life time.
Harrison Ford looks slightly shorter than Ed Norton in that photo assuming both are wearing similar shoes and standing on even ground etc.. Hard to tell for sure because Norton is wearing hat.
IMDB lists Norton at 6'1 but comparing him to another actor is pointless. My guess is most actors exagerate their height on their bios so they won't be discounted for roles because of height. Looking at an actress is even more pointless since they can wear heals to look taller.
Honestly if Ford's bio says he's 6'1 it's totally possible he's not actually that tall. He wouldn't be the first actor to have his height questioned Mel Gibson and Tom Cruise get it all the time.

Although I said Ed norton looked 5'11, he can be 6'1". If I remember correctly, he kinda slouches and has sloping shoulders and tilts his head - quite an unassuming guy. Soft spoken, very polite, self-deprecating.
Still, when I shook his hand, he looked 5'11.
Ford might not be 6'1, but based on the pictures above, he's definitely up there, 5'11 at least.
5'9" in bare feet obviously means he wears special shoes or something (I doubt it)
I can buy the 40 regular though, he's probably a 44 now.

Not that this matters but the Star Wars Site list Han Solo as being 1.8m. I don't know what that translates to in feet and inches.
http://www.starwars.com/databank/character/hansolo/
Also I'm not a suit expert but I looked this up...
A 40 regular is made to fit a person who is 5'8-5'11. A person who is 6'0-6'4 would normally wear a 40 tall or long.
If I had to guess based on all the info I've read and all the photos I've seen I would say he's 5'11 unless he wears lifts. If he's 6'1 somebody is measuring him from the top of his hair to the bottom of his shoes.

Well that's interesting! 1.8m = 5' 10.8". 5'11" near enough.

Excellent remark by mark seven
I am quoting the sizes given by NH and will give you my comments below.
Harrison Ford's sizes :
5' 9 1/2" (1.765 m) height, 40 chest and 34 waist with a 15 1/2" collar.
Shirt : Medium
Trousers : 34"
Web belt : 44"
Gunbelt : 38"
Bag Strap : 65"
Boots : 10.5
Comparing his sizes with myself...
Height: 1.780 m, 40 chest and 31 waist with 15' collar, boots 9
I gained a few kilos (5) and now wear waist 32.
When I was waist 31 my weight was 70kgs.
I can tell you for SURE that someone with height 1.765 and waist size 34 is overweight has excess fat that is visible. In other words he has a belly and I doubt that a medium size shirt (like the cairo shirt) fits him.
HF was slim in ROTLA.
To put it otherwise, considering that he was slim there is two cases
1. Either his waist size is really 34 so (in order to look slim) his height must be 1.85 m and above
or
2. he is 1.765 m high and wears 31 - 32 waist.
but because his shoe size is 10.5 then I would go for case no. 1.
Otherwise, if he is 1.765 m and wears shoe 10.5 then he is BIGFOOT.

Coming from a cop, I'm surprised you view this as even fairly accurate. 10 feet is still pretty far away to accurately judge someones height. I'd say you're guessing if anything. Now, if you were within handshake distance, that's alot more acceptable.
Of course, I've never met him at all so any info you have is better than my info. I'll take your guesses as opposed to my not knowing at all.

That was with us both standing on the same floor and eyeballin' it. No way to know anymore other than to whip out a tape measure. Once he sat down, there was no way to tell, until he stood up again.
I say he is shorter than me, Oak says he is taller than he is. That gives us a broad range. I believe HF himself said that he was 6'1". I don't know if we would ever find out for sure, unless someone measuring him for movie wardrobe would measure his height and say what the tape measure showed. Then you would have to decide if you trusted that person and believed their measurement to be accurate. I guess it is another one of those things we can talk about until we are blue in the face.
For now, I think this is about as close as we are going to get.

Hey BendingOak,
The height is OK compared to the waistsize.
The chest size belongs to someone who has been working out (pumping iron).
The difference of chest:waist is very big. 46 - 32 = 14
I 'm considered to be normal a guy and have 40 - 31 = 9 only
I also think the shoe size is big for the height mentioned.
I don't suppose those are your measurements judging from your avatar.
Posted: Mon Aug 14, 2006 4:55 pm

Forgot to say that the weight seems OK for this height considering that the chest size is attributed to muscle and that waist size is normal.
I have a friend who measures as follows and he ain't fat
chest 40
waist 32
weight 185
height 5' 11
I guess he has heavy bones.

I would think that if Harrison Ford was really 6'1, somebody somewhere out there would be guessing his height at 6'2 or 6'3 even. Instead I hear people saying he's somewhere between 5'9 and 6'1.
I've gone shopping I've had sales people standing right next to me just about always guess my height as 5'10 or 5'11 and I stand 5'9.
And since we're throwing out our sizes all U.S. sizes:
Height: 5'9
Weight: 180 lbs.
Jacket: 40R
Shirt: Medium 15 1/2 - 32/33
Pants: 34 x 32
Shoes: 11

Guys, Harry is, or was a little over 6'. You know that many things come into play when guessing the height of people, posture, shoes, how you stand. You can be standing right next to someone and still not be sure if you are shorter or taller than they
are, and what's an inch or two...not much. I've worked on quite a few
films as a bit player and stand-in and sometimes you can be surprised at the difference between how you observed someone on the small screen and how they look in person, but really not very often, if you compare actors along side of other actors over many films, you get a pretty good idea of their size. I do know that I was Ray Liotta's stand-in on a recent film and we were the exact same height at 6' 1", I believe Ford is or was about the same height.

They were cutting it so close in delivery of the materials from B&N, THAT'S when they went to Western costume as a 'fall back'. Fortunately, the correct contract costume items WERE delivered in time for the first day of shooting, and the items from Western Costume were returned to their inventory.
That's why the first Wested jackets that arrived had painted aluminum zips, as Peter didn't have time to get the correct zips installed, and had to cobble those gosh awful aluminum creations. From what we've heard, the zips failed fairly quickly in the production.
I remember Peter saying on more than one occasion that he HATED letting those go, but they just weren't given the time to make stuff up to their usual standards.
By the way, we're up to two pages on this topic. Best slow it down...we're starting to look like a bunch of stalkers.

Now the dust has settled, I'm going to throw a cat among the pidgeons. Bending Oak and Bufflehead Jones both seem certain of how Ford measured up to themselves while standing close by. But how long ago did they have their own heights measured? Were they measured according to clinical guidelines? Can they still be sure of the accuracy of the original measurements? Could they have since shrunk a little with age? Or perhaps they were both slouching with modesty while in Ford's overwhelming presence. Like Bending Oak, I'm a personal trainer myself, and let me just say that, in my experience of hanging out with other personal trainers shorter than myself, it's not unusual to hear them talk themselves up quite a bit when it comes to their height among other things!

If you click on the above photo you will see a very good height comparison between Ford and Connery. No one has ever doubted that Connery was at least 6 feet tall if not a couple inches taller. As far as the previous photo of Brad Pitt and Ford, on a soon to be made film starring Pitt, I was asked if I was interested in auditioning to be his stand in. I was privy to learn that Pitt is 6'-0" and 170 lbs. I think we can lay to rest that Ford is at least 6 feet tall!

From my experience in the tv/film industry I would have to say that my experience with meeting him (I do stuntwork)-he has to be 6 feet, maybe 6'1".
Of course he may have been wearing those ultry high KISS boots made so popular back in the 70's.
If he's 5'9, then Mark Hamill is 5'4", and Tom Cruise is 4'8" -

First you must read all the my post , not part of it. It seems to be a bad habit around here. Bufflehead said he is 6'3'' and I'm 5' 11''. Buff say's 2 inches shorter and I say 2 inches taller. that makes 6' 1''. I can you say that I would be slouching but how would that work out for bufflehead?
secound, there was no modesty by" fords overwelming presence." He was talking with a friend and co-worker. I cut him off to ask my friend a couple of question's. If anything there wasn't any modesty at all.

I 'd go with what Noel Howard said.
A while ago we made some hero A-2 jackets for a movie called "Unbroken" which tells the story of a WWII airman held captive by the Japanese.
Here's one of the jackets made:
https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... 158&type=3" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Now if you google the actor to find his height, you get this
https://www.google.com/#q=jack+o+connel+actor+height" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
but if you look at the info sheet the production provided, it's different, lower than what you will find in the media
I deleted the other lines of the form as not relevant.

When I was in a scene with Harrison in "42," I was amazed that he seemed roughly my size. I would say these sizes are about right:
5' 9 1/2" (1.765 m) height, 40 chest and 34 waist with a 15 1/2" collar.
Shirt : Medium
Trousers : 34"
Web belt : 44"
Gunbelt : 38"
Bag Strap : 65"
Boots : 10.5
Although, I'd bet that he had a 32" waist for ROTLA.
My mind was blown.

I am aware of a British clothing maker that if you buy size 32" fits like 30"; you gotta buy 34" to fit like 32"
Could be the same case with his trousers size tag mentioned as 34"

Fellow Adventurers,
Let me take something back. Ford seemed a little taller than I am, and I'm 5' 10", so--I dunno, the factors of age, physical embodiment and posture--he's a #### of an actor. Ford was playing Branch Rickey in "42," and he really embodied the role.
My subjective impressions in the moment may have been wrong. ####, I wish I'd given him the Macanudo I brought for him. They cut the scene. I had nothing to lose.
He could very well be 6' 0" or even 6' 1".
