Thanks D!
I'm not sure why you think it is an LC jacket, but I'll take a compliment whenever it is offered.

I'm sure you knew what I meant by that, though I probably am old enough to date some people's girlfriends mothers around here -that is, if they were single, of course. 8-[

MEDIC! I NEED A MEDIC!!!

a-HEM. Back on track here, Hemingway, does your horsehide have any reddish overtones to it? I'm under the impression that the new batch of HH is darker...

Somehow, I think you will find out soon enough. ;)

Here's a little sample of HH on top of my Authentic Lamb to tide you over 'till Hem's jacket gets there.

Sorry, bink, I can't part with it yet, but if I were to send it to someone, it would most certainly be you.

And to your question, the color is different this time. It is nothing like the old reddish or russet horsehide jacket. It is a dark brown, a really warm and nice brown, with only the slightest bit of rosiness, if you will. I would characterize it as brown.
 :D

So is the new "brown" HH the standard horse for Wested now? Honestly, the russet color was what appealed to me about the horsehide (apart from the durability).

Yeah I think its safe to say that Bink. The last 4 people or so including me have all wound up with this color. I too was a bit disappointed I didn't get "The Red One", but that quickly gets smothered by love for this jacket - as Hem states, there is a slight rosiness to it. The color of the hide under the finish does have the red hue to it, as mine is showing some in some spots where its distressing (on the cuffs, storm flap and bottom corners of the back panel), it just doesn't "bleed through" the finish

So does is "redden" with age and wear? That would still be cool. Don't get me wrong, I still would love a horsehide jacket someday, but I already have a brown (authentic goat) Indy. I want my next jacket to have a different character and color than my current one.

I think it will show some red as it ages....now only if we all looked better with age.. :-k

Any thought as to what you may get?
Once I had Peter measure me, I couldn't stop thinking about it. I had to order one! I'm glad I did. :D
Well, I didn't order it over the weekend like I planned. I'm going to hold off until after Christmas, but will make the order next week... It's my last resolution for this year.

Specs as discussed with Peter at the QM (there's something awesome about being measured by Peter and discussing your order with him):
  • Style: Raiders (80s cut)
  • Fabric: Lambskin
  • Size: 46
  • Colour: Authentic
  • Length: 24"
  • Shoulders: 6 1/2" (I think that's what the order form says.... hope Peter can read his handwritting, I'm not sure I can)
  • Sleeves: 26"
  • Lining: Cotton/satin
  • Zipper: Brass
There will also be a few minor tweeks to adjust to my broad shoulders. The only thing I'm going to add is the x-box stitching. I've toyed back and forth on a full cotton lining as well. I guess if I don't like this, I can always order another one. My concern on the lining is the summer wear with short sleeves... I just think cotton might be a better way to go.

Oh well, just drafting this response had me wanting a new jacket.... needless to say, five minutes after starting to write, I have ordered the jacket (I did add the x-stitching and kept the cotton/satin lining). The wait begins... with the holidays and everything, I'll just hope for the end of January.

Mike,
Congratulations! That sounds like a great jacket.
Don't worry about Peter, he saved a copy of those sheets he gave us.
When I ordered mine, I just told them to go off of the measurements that Peter took. Gemma emailed me back and said that she had them and was all set. The jacket came in and it was perfect.
Post some pics when it comes in!!! :D

Thank you Floribama! I highly recommend it. Horsehide is tough. It's nice having a tough jacket to go along with the lamb. :D

Hemingway, I don't mean to keep highjacking your thread, Gemma sent me an email today letting me know that the jacket is ready and will be posted later today. Once it shows up I'll leave your thread alone.

What amazed me was the turnaround time of the production. I placed the order on December 22, then there was Christmas and New Years (and we hope they had some time off for the holidays) and it is being shipped on January 4th. I'm still on the east coast and won't be home until the end of the week, I figure I'll get it mid to late next week.
