Ed,

I don't know if you've read it yet, but Dalexs provides some EXCELLENT fedora info at the top of this section in a sticky. It's a great read, with many detailed pictures, and I think you'd enjoy it a lot.

Check it out, my friend! :D

Why thank you. What kind of prof. would I be If I didn't take advantage of every and all learning situations :?:

I just learned that even belonging to this "club" and participating in the hobby has a "learning curve". I'm trying to learn quickly, but am being impeded by outside sources  (My family) :P

Great link. I appreciate, Strider.

Warmest regards,

The link was an interesting read. I like the "Raider's" style fedora the best.
I've been trying to shape it so the crown is lower in the back and am having a heck of a time.
I've adjusted the size with foam tape from being too loose to having it form a red welt across my forehead and I can feel my pulse beating.,
I did notice that Harrison Ford's fedora ,in a number of pictures ,looks as though it sets on top of his ears. What is up there?
I did the two mirror bathroom trick, Bink I know what you are thinking) and the crown of the hat from the side view looks rather large to me. The front view is fine. Does this mean in public I can never turn sideways :?:
Does a well fitting Fed Del. make a red mark across the forehead? My other hats don't, they just make a bruise, instead
I love being a member of the "club", but I may have to quit. A dropout, at my age!.
I'm the only one that can't get his fedora to fit :?
I need some reassurance from the "pros" around here. As my Zehda Moshe (Grandpa Morris) would have said," Someding ist facocked here!".
I have decided that I'm Fedora Challenged
Did Indy ever wear a baseball cap, or maybe a nice newsboy cap?
This is my plight........

I've noticed that the blocking on my (all) Fed Deluxes from the side isn't quite right. They end up looking too long/wide? from the side. (and I can't get the top dent deep enoug either) I think the problem is that it is straigh up and down and needs some backwards slant? (from the side) Maybe I should take some pictures to illustrate what I mean.

Yor right Doc. The block shape of the Fed isn't right for a Raiders hat. However, I find them fairly well suited for a ToD or LC hat.

Well, if the fedora is too loose without the foam tape, but too tight with it, you may want to consider simply ordering a hat one size down from the current size you have. I found this to be the case with me. When I first got my Adventurebilt, I had only owned two fedoras prior to that, one being a Dorfman ( #-o ) and the other being a Peters Bros.

The "large" size on the Dorfman was too big, and the "medium" size was too small. When I bought the Peters Bros. off of ebay at 7 3/8, it fit fine because I had a lot of hair. I sold off the Peters Bros. to buy an Adventurebilt, and also ordered the AB at 7 3/8 at first. It fit fine until I cut my hair. Then the poor dear sank down past my ears. I tried the foam tape bit, and had the same problem you had. Too tight, got a splitting headache. Not to mention other stuff. Fedora, you know what I mean!

I sent it back to Fedora for a re-sizing, down to 7 1/4, where it currently says perfectly on my head. It worked for me, I bet it can work for you.

Are the shots you're referring to action shots, or shots where he wasn't doing much running, shooting or fighting? I don't think anything is "up there", I just think that the hat is sitting in a more relaxed position on Ford's head in the photos you've seen. I could be wrong. :)

How so? Do you mean the crown looks too tall, or the hat looks like it's too big for you?
Prof. Ed wrote:Does a well fitting Fed Del. make a red mark across the forehead?
No, that means it's too tight. That's generally a bad thing. :P

From the side, the crown of the hat looks huge. It is long and tall. It seems longer than many side shots I've seen.

I will keep and wear this hat. I friend was nice enough to give it to me and that means so much. :)

Plus, I'm really not good at picking out fedoras and the cost factor won't fly here. I'll have to do some fine tuning.

Thank you all for your advice. I'll try and get my wife to post some pictures when she has a chance.

OY-WEH  Literal translation=alas! Einstein said this when he was told of the bombing of Hiroshima.
I have a girl in one of my classes that says "OY' all the time. Naturally, I asked her where she picked up the term because she wasn't Jewish. She explained that her mother uses it frequently and she is a nurse for a Jewish doctor :!: True and it was this past semester. I really got a kick out of this.
Sergi, you should appreciate this story

I just finished looking at some of the other fedoras that members wear.
Is the brim on the Fed Del. larger than other Indy style hats?
On my coat tree my Fed. Del. drawfs my old hat that I did wear. I know the tutorial shows the brim being cut down. Is this a personal preference or is it done due to the big brim?

Thanks for your help guys. I have pretty much given up my other internet group and switched over to COW. The members here are so very nice, helpful, and considerate. I haven't really seen any internet bullies!

Ed, I think its mostly personal preference. The brim on my dad's Fed looks to be about the same as my AB. Of course both hats are a 58. It might make a difference if you wore a smaller size.

I've barely (1/8") trimed mine on the sides as I think mine looks a bit big on my head. I think Tone said he trimmed his some. I guess it's personal preference. I don't remember what they measure initially.

Prof. Ed, the problem with the brim length could be that you are used to the other (smaller) brim style hats.
Trimming the Fed brim is not done because it is too big. It is a option people use subjectively. I have the Fed Deluxe and would not think of trimming the brim. I think it looks great as is! :)
