Well, sorry to disappoint you....and personally I like to wear white socks with my gear, as it is screen accurate, and my preference for comfort. Once again, sorry to disappoint you in your opinion of what is considered 'good taste' in color combinations. :? Regards. Michaelson

Eheh well everyone has his own sense of taste but to me white socks on brown gear is like "All Stars" shoes with a wedding suit

Oh Lord, ever heard of Italian fashion ? We would never use training shoes under a suit... that's a crime! A crime to the common sense

There was a time in the schools where white socks were mandatory. I believe the thinking was that if you got hurt to the point where you are bleeding, the white socks were less apt to give you an infection or dye poisoning or whatever. That was what we were told, but it was probably a simple matter of the schools flexing their muscles to keep everthing uniform. I never really figured it out.

I almost always wear white boot socks with my Aldens. (although I do have a few pair of dark merino wool socks) Personally, when it comes to my socks, fashion has to take a backseat to comfort and practicality. Of course I'm talking about a situation where I'm doing a lot of walking. :)

Regarding the Italians and their style and taste, you're right, of course, Ville-Pekka. Who would want to be seen in public with a Brioni suit, Battistoni shirt and a Marinella tie? A horrible combo. Or even worse, be forced to eat antipasto funghi e prosciutto, cannelloni di spinaci or filetto all'arancia profumata, rounding things up with the abomination known as gelato alla crema?

Not to mention all those awful Ferraris and Lamborghinis out there... shame on you, Italy!

The kid in the last row, third from the left could have been me, except the picture was taken in 1959 instead of 1859. I don't blame you for changing those socks Michealson. You could have ended being called "Argyle Jones" ... :-k Not that we couldn't start now.

See, that's the thing, Argyle. Indiana Jones' socks are black. Harrison Ford may have worn white socks on the set...

I'm sure the socks were personal items (same with underclothes) that the actors wore in with their street clothes. Unless the scene called for an intentional shot of undergarments or socks, the wardrobe folks would not have handed out this stuff. As there is a variety to the colors of socks worn by Ford, this hypothesis fits. We've seen lots of footage within the three films and VERY little views of the socks. With the six inch boots and long trousers, most folks will not see your sock color. BTW, socks should match or complement the color of the pants, not the footwear or belt, tie, suspenders, etc...

No, no, no! The ONLY scene with white socks is when Indy takes off on the horse to chase the truck! And speaking of comfort, there is no difference between a black cotton sock and a white cotton sock, or a dark brown cotton sock! Why is anyone saying anything about comfort when we are talking COLOR here? :? - man

So does that mean, the socks and underwear are no "official" IndyGear?!

"Dear Sir, I wish to complain on the strongest possible terms about the previous entry in this webpage about the nature of Mr. Ford's and Ms. Allen's undergarments. Many of my best friends are adventurous archaeologists, and only a few of them are cross-dressers.

Yours faithfully, Brigadier Sir Charles Arthur Strong (Mrs.)

P.S. I have never kissed the editor of the Radio Times."

Right, right, stop it. This thread's got silly. Started off with a nice little idea about socks and their colours, but now it's got silly. The Finnish man's views on Italian style are quite far-fetched too. The underwear topic was a rather bad idea. Right, now for a complete change of mood.
