The craftsmen I wouldnt think would make the mistakes but the admin side mistake is possible especially if two similar orders were taken so its worth checking you have the right hide.

The great thing about Wested is that the admin and the craftsmen are pretty much one in the same. I've called Wested 4 or 5 times and talk to Peter all but once. Sure its possible to be a sample switched, but I don't think that you have to worry about getting a jacket made of hte wrong leather.

That's a beaut of a jacket! Every time I see pics of them I'm surprised at how nice a cut the jacket is, not to sound trite, but it does have a classic look that I can imagine will endure for a heck of a long time. Never worn a horsehide jacket before, I have a cowhide of similar dimensions but it weighs so much and can't be worn for long durations before cutting off blood supply to my arms! LOL. It's not an Indy jacket, but still it was interesting to read how that leather wears. Nice one :D

Very nice jacket Bjones! I also have a horse hide wested and it too is quite dark. Under indoor lighting one would swear it was black. But get it out in the sunlight and the rich color starts to shine through. Great looking jackets all around.

Yea, the horside look great. I'm very tempted to order one sometime this summer.

P.S. Little Venice, there is a restaurant here by the same name! Whats the odds of that? Welcome to COW! :D

Thanks guys for the kind comments...I can't wait until fall so I can break it out again for regular wear. Just from the few weeks I wore it I can tell it will break in nicely after a few months. My other jackets just don't measure up in comparison. Too bad horsehide isn't as commonplace as it once was - hides like what wested used for my jacket are just great. My hide preference for any jacket will now be HH. I may look into doing a custom jacket like Indiana Jersey's 3/4 length beauty for my next acquisition....now only to save the money :-k

Yea, I've got the feeling that getting a horsehide Wested is gonna be kinda hard. It seems that they have a continous problem finding quality skins. I'm gonna order me a Raiders Wested at some point this sumer, but I'm really torn between the authentic brown goat and the horsehide. I have a ToD goat so maybe I'll just wait it out and get the horse. :-k

You must explain to her, that back in the "glory days" all adventurer's jackets were out of horsehide.
Horses are nice animals, sure, but nobody takes care of e.g. the poor pigs! And what about cows? They don't have a lobby ...

Just do it.....you don't need another goat. :P If you don't get the horsehide you'll be kicking yourself for another year until you can pony up the coin for a third jacket....you won't be disappointed. If you order now, you may get it by the end of fall when you can start wearing it.

Thats true Bjones. I really like the brown of your jacket. It looks very close to the authentic brown. My next jacket will be my adventure jacket; one that I can climb around on rocks and and through heavy underbrush without worring about damaging it. The horsehide definitely fits the bill. Well, the goat does too, but I want to keep my goat looking half way decent for everyday wear. Do you know if Wested is gonna try to keep the current color as standard?

Only the Man knows....I thought (ok...hoped) my jacket would look like Rob's, but I was pleasantly surprised otherwise with the different hide. My guess is Peter will try to keep the hides consistent, but if he gets enough orders before getting another batch (or quality is off) he may go with some other supplier to meet demand. On one hand you may not know exactly what you are getting, but I haven't seen a HH jacket yet I didn't like. With Peter I think its safe to say you will get quality no matter what. I pestered Wested every week or so for 6 months and they had rejected 2 or 3 shipments and had looked at several sources before accepting anything - so he won't make a jacket out of inferior materials.

Oh, believe me I know! I waited for my ToD goat last August-November. My situation was similar to yours. Peter was having a hard time getting quality hides, but when I finally got my jacket it was perfect. :D

OK you caught me typing way to fast there.... BTW I still have your pics on my hard drive....that jacket is awsome. Before you unleashed that thing on us I had been seriously eyeing the Aero long halfbelt, and here's your low cost (relatively) jacket that looks just as good. And I still blame you for using up all that Russet HH!!!! [-( :D :notworthy:

Indiana Tone: just don't tell her its HH (if she still has any doubts on your selection)...can she tell the difference?

"Ummm honey this goatskin....honest"

Someday I may end up with lamb, but as you stated directly, the HH is magnificent. I'll prolly own a few more jackets in this hide before i switch.

During my long wait, I asked my wife if she thought I should just go with another hide....she said " you waited this long you can keep waiting - Get what you want so you don't end up wanting another so soon". Boy she didn't know how gaga I went for the hh when it arrived. Another jacket? Naaaaa  :-k
