In the newly-released Mask of Zorro Deluxe Edition DVD, there is a section of the documentary that features the use of the bullwhip in the movie, including footage of Anthony Hopkins practicing on the mine set in the desert. There is also a behind-the-scenes look at The Legend of Zorro, with a great movie magic shot of Banderas swinging from a cable-core stunt bullwhip that connects to a body harness at his waist through the bottom of the whip handle (to be digitally erased in the finished shot, no doubt). This movie will equal, if not surpass the original, and it looks to have much more whip action to boot. So, what's everyone doing next Friday? ;-)

Speaking of Zorro, Heya Paul N. Did you ever get THE whip from AG?
Just curious.

Just out of curiosity, who made the whips for the new movie? Last year I asked David Morgan if he made them, and he replied that he "didn't remember," which I found rather odd, considering his distinguished affiliation with Hollywood.

I think I've heard that Strain was making the Zorro Whips.
Not sure. I know he's doing the "officially licensed" ones that Mark Allen sells.

Yeah I remember reading a few years back that Strain was going to be making the new Zorro movie whips.

WhipWarrior, it’s been a while, hope your doing well.
When I talked with Mark at Western Stage Props recently he told me that as far as he knew all the whips they supplied in the second movie were there official Zorro whips, which I am pretty sure are still being made by Joe Strain. I haven’t seen any close up stills of the bullwhips from filming yet to confirm, so Take it for what its worth. It wouldn’t surprise me if other bullwhips where used aswell, you know Hollywood. All the Best

Hey Dan,
I haven't gotten it yet, I still have a bit left to pay off on it, but if all goes well I should have it by the end of next month. Don't worry I'll let you know as soon as I get it, along with Pics!!!:-)

And one more thing, Paul.
I let you crack my Strain at Annie Oakley. Will you let me crack that Zorro whip the next time you're in town?

Just made my own Zorro. I changed the design a bit because I didn't have a silver band, so I changed the braiding pattern in one spot and put a knot on either side of it. I also made it with a 14 inch handle, but it looks pretty close unless you're looking at the real thing side by side with my own. Sorry that the pictures aren't that great. They're thumbnailed, so just click on them to make them bigger.
Hey Paul, where do you get those silver bands? I don't actually care if it's a Zorro band, just a decorative silver band I could put on there.

Hey, Jim. Do you have a website for your whips?

I used to, but I took it down a while ago. I'm working on another one at the moment, but I can email you pictures if you want to see anything else I've made.
