I've got a question for you fellows! and I apologize in advance for being such a noob!

I know _ had explained the situation about chest sizes and variations of jacket sizes among different vendors. What size of Wested's Hero would you guys say is closest to HF Hero's jacket. I'm not worrying too much about wearing it as it will be used primarily for display!

So, whatcha guys think? Any and all input would sure be appreciated.

_, I really hope you chime in here buddy :TOH:

Wested's HERO jacket...

Sincere apologies to the spirit of the thread for the temporary hijacking...
That said, guilt gone, I'm not planning on it, although I'd like to meet you and tip one 'r two back. Funny thing life. Some of the guys I get on with best I had head-banging intros to. Not unlike our virtual brawl when I joined. Some good folks here, but I am such a surface Indy nut in comparison to you guys. Love the QM and indeed, we could probably spend hours comparing our twisted taste for wearing "Animal Kingdom" on our bodies. I've raised my kids to have balance in life. I don't think it's hypocritical to wear these things whilst appreciating and loving our wildlife.
If I can swing down there, I'd love to get to spend time with you :TOH:
BTW, my face boots are the Rios and Lucchese. And like you, the good ol' Frye have a spot in the closet too. I favor the "X" toed westerns. Drives my Montana relatives nuts. They think they're "city boots"

As for the jacket pix above, I saw an A2 someone had that looked like that. Didn't work on that jacket. But the Indy I think pulls it off well. Looks kinda raw and wild.

Very nice looking gear. What hat is that? Looks great on you. Color scheme all looks nice together.
So how is the jacket? I prefer superthin lightweight for me and this particular one you have on looks thick and a little heavy? Is it? Inquiring minds want to know.

Thank you, the hat is a christy's adventurer.

We thought that the jacket is heavy like a shell but the jacket is very soft and lightweight, this is just the appearance. :TOH:

Those pocket flaps are the best I've seen so far on the Wested Hero jacket. The colour of yours looks darker then the other shown, at least in the photos. Its probably the lighting.

Anyone has received the Hero in Shrunken Lamb?

I ordered mine soon after it became available but got an email today from Wested saying that the leather has been backordered indefinately

...wonder why they got so little to make jackets out of?

....should I change my order and get the Crispe instead? goat?

I'll think I'll just wait for the SL. The Crispe is too light in color for me and I'm not diggin the "alligator" hide pattern of the grain.

Ok, ordered the Darkbrown Lambskin Standard HERO jacket today.

My current Wested is literally falling apart due to the intensive wearing.

Just received my hero jacket in Crispe lamb and to be honest, I'm not sure I'm liking it too much. The leather is very heavy and thick, it seems to big for me and just doesn't look right on me. I'll post pics later on today. Already thinking about returning or selling it. :(

Sorry to hear this, man.

It's important a jacket feels 'right'.

I had the same experience with the Custom 'ROLA' Jacket from Wested.

It never clicked.

Good luck with the returning/selling.

Here's a couple quick shots. I just don't think the raiders jacket is for me. It looks too much for my small frame. I have a temple in size 36, same as this one and it fits very well on me. This jacket fits just like the a the small U.S Wings legend that I had but then returned because it fit just like this wested does.

The hard thing for me is that I don`t think most of the jackets I have were what I wanted until I cold water washed them. Kinda like _, who, I`ve read, does this immediately to most new jackets he recieves. I wet them, crunch them up in my hands and sleep in them once or twice and then they start to gel.....the bad part is that if I don`t like the results then I can`t return them to the seller. But you can also tell immediately if you and this jacket were meant for each other almost as soon as you open that package. Some guys want that sturdy real jacket while others(like me) open those packages hoping to find what they believe they saw on screen, while others look for a costume piece or bragging rights or an infinite number of reasons as there are COW members.
I suggest, try it on again, look in the mirror, take some pics from all sides in what you plan to wear it with regularly, imagine it broken in and overlay that with what you really want it for, and it should make your current decision much easier.
:TOH:
And while we all like to help, take our opinions with a grain...after all, YOU will be the one wearing this thing YOU bought with YOUR hard earned (or taken in some cases) money..which is a hot commodety nowadays. Get your money`s worth!

I'm just looking at the shoulder width of that jacket, and it looks WAY too big for his body! I don't think any amount of crunching is going to fix that.

Just guessing from the actual end of his shoulders to the edge of the shoulder seams looks like they're 3-4 inches wider on each shoulder, making it 6-8 inches wider than it should be for his size.

It does fit very large on me. I am guessing that it's the particular pattern of this jacket with the oversized shoulders. Hope wested will take it back, this was such a disappointment.

You're looking swamped in that, though the length of the arms and body look good, your across-shoulder measure just is too darn big.

The Hero does sort of hang outside the shoulders by an inch or so but that looks like a lot more.

It's possible that you need to talk Peter into taking into account your shoulder width when making a jacket for you as it looks like you have a particularly slim build that regular sizing just doesn't cope with.

Also, if you don't like the weight of this, look at the thin goat or the lamb. Crispe is mature sheep leather and heavier and thicker as a result.

To be honest: this doesn't look like the jacket for you.

It's simply too wide for your shoulders.

Please don't fiddle around with water, washing machines, hot steam sauna's, etc.

Just leave it in mint condition and return it to Peter asap.

woah. too big. send back.

looking forward getting mine soon. same skin.

as for LC skin, color wise it looks dead on for LC but that aside..isn't it alittle too much dino for LC as the LC looks to be a smoother finish. not much grain.

We've seen the pics of your Temple of Doom jacket; it does look like it fits better. Still baggy and wide in the shoulders, but better than this Hero.
I'd be interested to hear some measurements, both yours and the jackets'. It shouldn't be too hard to figure out how and where this one went wrong.
As has been pointed out, the shoulder width looks just huge, even for this pattern.
The heavy leather wouldn't be helping matters either. If it's anything like the TNO Shrunken Lamb I had (and it looks very similar), it's certainly not the thin, lightweight
leather most think of when they think of lambskin.

I hate seeing somebody disappointed. Been there. You get all excited. Then you open the box and put it on. You don't want to admit there's a problem. I really do hate it. I think I've finally got Vanson dialed in. With each vendor it's a new journey. It's one of the things I liked about Wested - they got the sizing quite quickly. As I've said above, the mans good at that. So was Tony Nowak.
Wow! _ got my exact feelings, right now, nailed down perfectly. The jacket is a size 36 and not really a custom. All I did was select my sleeve, chest and back length with no technical specifications. The funny thing is that I have a temple jacket from them in the same size and it fits me very well. That's the jacket I used to base my measurements off of.

Wow. I'm wondering, have you zipped it up and laid it flat and taken some actual measurements of the chest and shoulders for comparison, or just to see if you actually got what you ordered?

The only Wested sizing problem I ever had was my fault. Take good measurements yourself. I relied on measurements from getting a suit and ordered too small. They sized down my jacket measurement to get me into a smaller waist to avoid taking in the trousers with the proper size coat. I assumed the suit jacket was supposed to be snug....wrong.

Sounds like those of us that are good with OTR are very lucky!

I assume the shrunken lamb is still not available. I hope a 46 is possible!

Peter will get you dialed in.

Peter is a great guy and I'm really excited for this. I think though, I am just going to exchange this one for the lightweight seal brown lambskin with reduced measurements. This leather is far too heavy and bulky for me.

Wested's HERO jacket...

Post by 61ButteMT »

Without fail, every time I've seen airing out of grievances online, the issue could and WOULD and was resolved with a call to the vendor.
They live by reputation in this world, and a ticked off customer is bad business. We expect them to be pros, but we need to reciprocate that role as well. Cheers to another case resolved. :TOH:

It's not as heavy as the TNO 2nd generation shrunken lamb - it may be similar to the first gen with the coarse grain. Honestly, it's mid-weight, certainly heavier than their regular lamb, but not like most cowhide or horse, or even some goat. Overall the weight is probably similar to goat but it's not as compressed - a bit softer and thicker than goat.

Does anyone know of a cheap way to send out this jacket? I have been viewing different price rates from various places and I've received prices starting from $105-$160. That's outrageous! I might as well sell it, save myself the money on shipping and the hassle. This is just getting way too expensive, not to mention the price that I already paid on the jacket itself.

Not sure where you're located, but I ended up shipping via US Mail as the cheapest option. Took about a week and was less than $40 in a box with insurance.
