Well, I've had her for a couple weeks now and it's wearing nicely. The character of the jacket is really beginning to pop. Pics are outside w/ a flash. I think it really gives you a good idea of the texture and color. If you're on the fence on this one just go ahead and jump off!

Love that distinctive character that's coming to the surface... it really makes it YOURS.

Thanks Mitch, love this jacket. In fact, I'm done. Seriously, I've finally found the jacket I've been looking for all this time and I can stop looking. That hunt is what brought me to COW in the first place...and the reason I have a shirt from WPG, $350 boots, a S&W revolver, a fedora, and....well, you get the idea. Thanks to everyone here for sharing the bug, steering me straight, and for being just plain awesome.

If by 'extension' you mean it goes everywhere with me, then you're absolutely right! It was snowing today while I was chopping wood and wearing 'Henry'. Good ol' natural distressing...and yes, I named my jacket.

Better than being named for the dog, I guess....

Holt, you used pecards on it? Was it the oil you mentioned? I usually treat all of my jackets except lamb ones with pecards oil and was wondering about my USW SL. I would love to hear the differences you have knoticed.

Great jacket. Kaplan: yeah i used pecards oil on it. It soaked right in. All of it. No tacky surface at all. It really softend it up and broke more in. Now it looks like indys jacket.

Thanks Holt. I've always felt that the oil worked well on nearly every leather I had, though people warned against lambskin so I never tried it.

Personally that's the last thing I would ever use on tight pore lambskin, but we've had this discussion before, and apparently it works ok in colder climates. I would NEVER use it in more temperate locales myself, but that's your call.

Once oil is applied to leather, there's no reversing the process, so always be sure that's the direction you want to go with your leather before proceeding. It's the only product you'll be able to use from that point on and is irreversible. Standard Pecards dressing and jell slowly evaporates out of the hide, and other products can be used for cleaning and conditioning. Oil, on the other hand, penetrates deep into the leather, and therefore nothing else can be used from that point on.

Just some info to ponder.

Thanks for the info my friend. And i know it very well but it was what i wanted to use on this jacket. I will never use this thick skinned jacket during the hot summer or summer evenings. My SL will be used during the rainy/snowy season

Michaelson, what do you expect the heat would do to lambskin with pecard oil. I know the whole mink oil reasoning, but I never imagined pecard oil going rancid. Does it just weigh down the leather? or Seep out?

Pecard Oil wil not go rancid as it's not an animal byproduct.

Any oil weighs down leather to a degree.

I'm never a fan of any process that is not reversable, or limits me from using other products should I chose to.

You use oil, ANY oil, and you have to use it for the life of the leather gear. You are stuck with that process from now on.

Nothing wrong with it and a personal choice, just not mine.

Alright guys, I'm obsessing a bit here and I need a little help. The right front of my jacket is very "striated" and the left is completely smooth. I know every jackets has its nuances, differences in grain, etc., but this is really bothering me tonight. God knows why... Either way, somebody please talk me in off the ledge! (and tell me somebody else OCD's over this stuff too!)

Thanks brother. I feel better already. For some reason it doesn't bother me if it's common to the jacket.

The textures of the panels vary greatly on mine.....My left sleeve has loads of striations, but the right is quite smooth...The bubbles and striations defo pop out more over time and just when you think it's done.....another pops out...

Either way, though....yours looks absolutely fantastic on you, smooth left panel or not....

Yep my front panels as well. right side grainy and left more smoother with some grain. And my left sleeve is pretty smooth whilst my right isn't.

So which side is more SA to have the most striations on?... If you think about it, more striations = more drag during a punch or swing on a whip....Which arm did Indy lead with?

He's not a Southpaw, and the striations seem to be centred on the right side... So his left lead would move about .85 seconds faster... More than enough to lay a Nazi or two out eh?
I hadn't considered that... No wonder I keep getting hit by old ladies on the train.. Too many striations on my jacket to move fast enough!

(Those grannies are FAST...)

My US made Wings is breaking in nicely, my jacket doesn't seem to be to crayz w/stirations like I've seen on other jackets, they are there, but not like some others. Actually I'd probably have jumped off the cliff, major difference like would really get to me. Hope I'm not re-starting you heading back up to the cliff, your jackets stirations look awsome.

Maybe in the next day or so I'll get acouple of shots, maybe I'll even gear up for em, haven't seen to many of those while wearing the SL.

I have ONE measurement on here that is a little tight (across the shoulders). Leave it to a gearhead right... Two months ago, this was my perfect Indy jacket, and now I have nit picked it to death! If I had it to do all over again with this jacket, I would have opted for the XL and popped that puppy in the washer. Oh well, live and learn I guess. The good news is, I got some REALLY good fit measurements from this jacket, this one fits me better than any of the others did.

My take on the MOTB.


Two shots taken inside with a flash. I'll have to take some close up's to show the distressing that happening as I'm showing no mercy on this jacket, no mercy at all.



And these are my three jackets, no Bink not my three sons.
1st is the SL, then my Todds custom Lamb and last but not least my Wested Goat. As a side note I'm going to try and combine the three jackets using info I've gleemed from this here site to order either a Wested Lamb or soft goat. I want light weight, but durable.

Yes this jacket has "grown on me" so to speak, I still am after that alusive "light weight" ROTLA jacket, my Todds is nice but I'd want the sleeves to be longer. My Wested is tight in the shoulders.

That's a great set Croft! Each of those has something good about them, but the Wings SL really does it for you, and I'm with Tundraider; it's the sleeves. That, and the fit is just right. But really, getting the sleeves to wrinkle up like that will maintaining a generous length has always been one of the hardest parts about getting an Indy jacket right.

Now for me that is impressive, Travis all I can say is take care of it and at the same time abuse it, mine is breaking in nicely and I'm getting some nice distressing even with out trying. But really this jacket is tough, wear it in the rain, shoveling a 48" path through the snow, wear it and wear it hard. In the end it'll look awsome. Just wish I could wear it in warmer weather, on that note we'll have to see.

You know, Croft, they all look good on you but I personally feel that the Todd's looks most "Indyish" on you. The others just look like really nice jackets that fit you well. The Todds looks like you are about to go on an adventure.

The Todd's looks most Raiders to me - particularly the collar.

Well the Todds is a Lamb custom back in the day when he did custom, it sure does have the drape I like. My US Wings has drape but not the loose drape we assocaite with the Raiders jacket.

Just wanted to do a quick post to say how pleased I am with the way my U.S. Wings Jacket has begun to lump up and wrinkle with striations over the last little while.

It's been through several pretty good rainshowers but I was always careful to let it air-dry. I was never concerned with shrinkage (quite the contrary, I actually thought it could do well with maybe "tightening up" to the tune of a half-size, or so) and it never did shrink... at least, not as a result of getting wet from rain and air-drying.

But one day last week I decided to through caution to the wind and shake things up a little:

I put the jacket in the washer for a short rinse with warm water and then let it spin the excess water out... then I took it out, straightened out the jacket, folded down the collar, UNfolded the pocket flaps, etc, etc and then hung it overnight to dry a bit... Then in the morning I took the mostly dry (but VERY stiff) jacket and threw it in the dryer with a big (but old) bedsheet and let it roll around in hot air for about 20 minutes or so.
After that I just put it on and wore it for the rest of the day...
Now, I don't know if these little bubbly striations were there right from the moment I pulled the jacket out of the dryer (to be honest, I just grabbed it out, pulled it on and I was out the door on the way to work)... but if they weren't there right away, they've sure been developing since.

Anyway, here's a couple of photos... hope you like 'em.
