Thanks! I have enough for a Fed IV Moonstone, but I want to see if I can get her to allow the extra cash for a grey Henry. I have a brown Fed IV and a brown Henry and I like the look and feel of the Henry a little better. It's just a matter of me being allowed to spend the money I make..... :-({|=

I just sent my Henry off to John Penman for a Reblock, resizing and new liner and sweatband. Packing it up and sending it off was what it must feel like for parents when they send thier kids off to college - a combination of sadness and pride.
I have a black "Adventurer" on order from Christies but still has not arrived yet so I am without a fedora and have to resort to wearing my baseball caps again.....sigh....

I didn't specify a block and I think John has the appropriate blocks for the Henry in his shop. My hat size is inbetween sizes so in order to elimniate my need to use hatters tape, John is going to give my beloved fedora a nice refurbishing and sizing.
It's kind of bitter sweet since It has really taken on a lot of character, but hopefully it will be easy to break it in all over again.

Totally worth it though...I sent mine to John for a Raiders re-block because it was too big. It fits perfectly now. :D

I'm wondering if I will see any difference in the overall size of the hat after the reblock - Since I used hatters tape to shim it out, the brim stuck out a little wider than it would if it were completely fitted to me.
I'm already missing my hat - even more now since I just got my Wested in the mail and I wanted to see how it all looked together.

My Henry was supposed to be a 59cm, but it was way too big and I had to use the foam pads....John reblocked it at 59cm and it fits perfectly.....I noticed a huge difference....I think you'll be really happy and the waiting will be worth it... :TOH:

Regarding Henry.... :P

....just received my Henry from Steve after his skillful re-block and he did a bang up job. In fact, it has never looked so good and just a fit!

Michael, I also couldnĀ“t be without my Henry for the time of a reblock. But I think the slight taper it developed begins to grow on me.

Just had a pleasent conversation with John about my hat.
For some strange reason, the inside measurement is smaller than the measuring crown he sent me to measure so we talked about the fit - about how nice and snug my Henry fits now and he suggested a simple cleaning is all it needs.
Having the hat reblocked would also invlove having a new, heavier sweatband put in so it looks like no reblock for me at this time...but I look forward to getting my hat back, nice and clean from the masters hands!

I have received several hats for reblocks when they really didn't need it. This one was just a bit dusty and need a good brushing with a little cleaning. Not a bath but a cleaning.

As for the size. This one has me scratching my head. The measurement of the crown was 22 1/2 inches and he stated it fits well. The hat fits well with the foam inserts and that measure at just under 22 inches. Something is lying. :-k

It's making my head scratch because both the paper crown you made and the hat can't both be right.

I think it all goes back to what you said over the phone that I comfortably wear my hat lower in the back than the front which is why the inside measurement of my fitted hat runs smaller than the paper crown measurment.
When I am able to invest in one of your hand-made hats, we will take appropriate precausions to make sure we have the right measurement being used.

It always falls on operator error. Something as little as putting the crown at the same angle as the person wears their hat. That little mistake can be costly.

Sure...blame it on me, I don't mind. I know I'm a fool :P
I had two other people with me helping me with the measurement so I guess we were all doing it wrong. I think what I will do is have a lifecast made of my head and send that to you! \:D/

Not blaming anyone but in most cases it's operator error.

As I write, my Henry is home and on my head. John cleaned up the ribbon for me real nice - though I suspect it won't be long until I dirty it up again this spring with some Fullers Earth ;)
I also purchased from him his Hat Jack and a hat brush. Both products are perfect and as soon as I can get some photos, I will start a thread to show them off.

Cool,

I am thinking about sending my Henry to Marc and Stefan for a complete job: re-blocking, pouncing, killing the felt, tighten the ribbon... to have a more custom hat!!!

I am interested in purchasing a Henry.

I have a HJ size 58cm and it is a snug fit. I have typically always worn a 7 1/4. My head is somewhat of an oval and so I am wondering if I should go with a 59cm when ordering the Henry. My HJ does leave a slight red line on the forehead, but like I said it is not excruciatingly tight, just snug.

How does the Henry typically run? Should I stick with a 58cm or go up to a 59?

Have someone take your head measurements. Have them take it a few times. When you get the results let me know I'll advice you.

Well, we did the measurement 5 times and each time we got 22 3/4. So I am guessing I am still a 58 (7 1/4). Is that what you'd advise?

Thanks.

That sounds right. If buying from me fill in the measurement not the hat size. I use a hat measuring tool to double check each hat before sending the out.

The Henry is a quality dawg! You'll really like the felt blend, rabbit/beaver. 22 3/4" would be in the 57-58 hat range. Generally, factory hats are made with some some amount of variance, some slightly larger, some may be slightly smaller, but one thing I know, the Henry is the best made factory hat out there. The Oakster is in top of things as usual. ;)

I'll second what the Texan Scott said....The felt is really soft and buttery, but very hard wearing....I've battered mine trying to get the SoC look.....and I was amazed at how strong the felt was...

I always get a kick out of how much I enjoy seeing a gorgeous fedora (like Teko's Henry) in a photo with a pyramid standing in the background (and how RIGHT those kinds of photos "feel")... when, of course, pyramids have never served as any sort of backdrop to any of Indy's adventures (or at least, in the "Grown-Up-Fedora-Wearing-Harrison-Ford-Indy-FILMS" )
See how I covered my butt, there? :P

And yet, they just seem to go SO well together... It just seems really odd to think that the two things never went together in any of HF's actual movies.
I guess it's up to us Fans to make sure history doesn't end up in short supply of pyramid/fedora shots ...

With this in mind:
:TOH:
NICE work Teko!

i myself have a 58 cm Henry that's a bit too large. I use pads and it's ok, but i got a new henry in 57 cm that fits fine, but l prefer the looks of the 58 cm.

would you advise me to have the 58 reblocked, considering i'm in france (time+ shipping, ahem... )

Dunno, it depends on how much it bothers you.....If you love the subtle difference in shape of the larger Henry, then bear in mind that after the re-block it'll most likely look a lot different or you could just end up with 2 hats that look and fit exactly the same........

You'll have to ask John about this, but I had mine re-blocked over his Raiders block and not a Henry block.......Aside from the size issue, I didn't really like the block shape of the Henry for my face, so I just never wore it.......

Indyhan,

If you live in France, you might wanna send your Henry to Marc of AB in Germany instead, closer and faster concerning shipping, etc... and he will use the AB Deluxe block I guess since there's no Henry block other than the ones at the factory...
