Hi Russ,

Just received mine this morning! Great job!! Love it very much. Thank you again for making this available.

I am also interested in the metal version you are currently working on. Just don't know if the local law is allowed.

Thanks again for everything.

Best regards,
Azuma

I've updated the list for those who were interested.

Successfully shipped on to the UK, so (*knocks on wood*) far I have a 100%
successful shipping ratio! yay!

Summer sure is flying by. Seems like I've been gone or busy every bloody weekend.
I hope to get some more Webleys in the pipe soon.

I'm underway to finishing out the run! I know, finally! :D

So far I have 6 guns rough trimmed and buffed/polished. I have one rough trimmed and not buffed.

I'm only able to work on these about one day a week, sadly. I'm hoping to finish castings on the
remaining 3 to bring the total up to 10. One of which is already spoken for.

When the "spare" guns are available, I'll let everyone know.

Sorry for the long overdue update for those still interested in this project. :)

I have 11 pistols on the workbench right now.

Yesterday afternoon I put in appx. four hours and accomplished...

-Trimmed all sprues from the pistols.
-Trimmed all major excess.
-Hand buffed the surfaces.
-Drilled the barrel hinge points, stirrup latch points, release lever holes, grip slab holes and grip hole in grip frame.

Image

Sorry for the poor camera phone picture. It was easier to post it to facebook
with my phone than get my wife off the computer.

What's left to do...

-Metal cast parts
-Drill/clean up metal parts including making the lanyard ring assembly. Very time consuming...
-drill barrel muzzle
-drill lanyard post hole
-drill lanyard lock pin hole (actually should have done this yesterday. Doh.)
-Wet sand all casting seams to smooth them out (also time consuming...)
-Test fit metal parts and hand fit adjustment of said parts (also time consuming...)
-Mask off the trigger and hammers.
-paint
-weather
-clear coat
-numbering and marking
-final assembly
-price hike to $500 each (Just seeing if you're still paying attention). ;)

So that's where we sit. Some stages take more time than others due to all the custom fitting.
Be nice if I had an assembly line of sexy amazons doing the work. Alas, it's just me. :whip:

Actually, considering how labor intensive and time consuming these "hand-made" replicas are, you could easily charge this much or more!!! :notworthy:

Michael :TOH:
Also with how rare AND expensive a decent real one is, that isn't a bad price. I'm just glad I got one of these for the price I did. I have no plans of ever selling it either.

Just a status update for those curious about what's going on with the project.

I'm taking a few days off this and next week and I'm hoping to if not outright finish the last 11 guns, at least get to the 95% stage.

I'm also hoping to get the next 10 stunt guns done as well.

I'll update with pics when they're ready to rock.

Thanks for the interest!

Tuesday afternoon saw me clear the top straps so the grip and
barrel section can join togeather and close. Took about 3 hours to do 11 barrels.

Not sure if I'm doing metal parts or barrel/lanyard hole drilling today. One
is certainly less messy than the other. :)

We'll see how it goes, maybe I'll be able to do both.

Off to the Sankara mines... ;)

Well, that was productive!

Got all the barrels drilled, and the lanyard loop holes. Also got all the metal parts raw cast!!
They still need trimming, drilling, etc. but I'm halfway there with the metal parts!

I have 3 days off next week too, so the end is in sight!

3-4 hours of wet sanding... yay...

Today I'll be working on the grip sections.

It's getting there.

Just a quick non-update.

I'll post more updates as I actually accomplish something. :)

the dust off with the air compressor. Doh. ](*,)

Planning on getting back at them this week.

Just a status update.

This run will be completed this month. It's not only the 3 year anniversary of Crystal Skull, but also 30 years since Raiders, so I'm going to get them done.

After that, I'll be doing a 10 gun "Hero stunt" WG run, similar to my last WG stunt run.

Guns are already cast, I just have to clean them up (trim, sand, etc.) and paint.

Thanks for the interest in the last 3 years, and to everyone who has participated thus far!

Gosh, Russ! :o No rest for the weary, huh? ;)

Curious about the stunt run, as I have one of your stunt guns from your last run. :H: How will the new run differ?

Michael :TOH:
They'll differ... in that they'll be numbered #11-20 instead of 1-10.

Other than that, same quality.

Took 2 days off from work, but only made one day's worth of headway. Sheila had one of those days off,
so I blame her. Yeah... that's it...

Got the release levers all fitted, as well as the sturrup latches. Plus two coats of clear coat on all the parts.

Down to manufacturing the lanyard loops now, which is very labor/time intensive.

All the pretty ladies in a row...

Image

And a test fit of a set of grips...

Image

So what's left?

-Make & fit the lanyard loops.
-Detail painting/adjustment (shell casings, screw heads, etc.)
-Numbering.

Getting there!

After 2.5-3 hours, ten lanyard loops are DONE! YAY!

Re: Webley WG COW "27" pistol project!

People wonder what takes me so long.

Well, honestly, after working all day at my society-approved-imitation-real job, I don't feel
real motivated to do more work when I get home at night. Sad, but true. :)

But, if you crunch the numbers...

50 guns spread out over 3 years averages appx. 16 guns a year, or bettter
than one a month. Now, in actuality, I did them in spurts, so the initial 25-27
guns took me 6 months, then 6 months off, then another 10 or so, etc.

But in the end, I think making 50, hand built, hand assembled, painted
and completed replicas is a pretty big accomplishment...

Especially for what they cost.

Plus, I also did 10 stunt guns in that time frame as well. :)

So I KNOW some of you have waited a LONG time for your replicas,
but good things to come to those who wait... in time. :D

And that time is now! ;)

And...

98% done!

Just have to number the beasts and touch up the front sight and they're ready!

This coming week I'll be sending out PMs to those on the list.
If someone doesn't respond, or bows out, their slot will be opened
up to someone here.

Happy 30th of Raiders everyone! :)

Well, the last 3 of 55 went out the door today!

Three years. THREE YEARS of doing these things, and in all honsety,
I still like the look of them. :)

I have 9 stunt guns I need to build up, and when I do I'll post an announcement,
but until that time, I just want to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to all
in the Indy Community who have participated in my pistol run.

I've been very blessed to have had the opprotunity to bring these to you all,
and will do so again in the future, with possible replica design revisions as well. :)

But for now, a well deserved break from British Boer War era pistols. :)

Thanks again!

I too own one. Thanks for all the hard work!

How does resin look when using a brass powder? Does it appear gold? Just curious because there's so many gold props in the Indy realm.

I haven't experimented with the bronzing powders to be honest. I
HAVE been tempted to try it though. :) I don't believe it would come out
"Ark Gold" but more of a... well... bronze color. Gold-ish, but not 24k gold. :)

LOL@Tundrarider: I've contemplated repainting my own Webley with my
new paint techniques as I like the finish as well. It's just such a pain in
the buns to strip the old paint off for repainting. :)

I love mine. I cant believe I havent taken a photo yet. I got it last year and due to cirumstances, I had to pack it away. I had a chance to take it out last night and finally be all geared up wearing it, and I didn't even get to show anyone. I plan on wet molding my IMA holster to it one of these days.

Rook, what's the difference in the WG and the MKVI besides the grips? Is the barrel longer? I ask because I know where I can get a replica of the MK with cocking action and it does other neat stuff, but as I love the one you made, I was wondering if it was possible to get some parts from you to cannibalize this replica and make an uber indy gun:)

I just get a kick out of being able to pull back the hammer, pull the trigger and have the cylinder revolve, etc...Then I can frame yours:D

Re: Webley WG COW "27" pistol project!

Posted: Wed Aug 31, 2011 12:49 am
by Rook
The birds head grip on the WG is different than the standard grip on the MKVI. The Birdshead grips on the MKVI's that had them, were a different shape and didn't have the sharper curve of the WG. The cylinder on the WG is longer, the section of the receiver under the cylinder is longer as well.

Those are the major physical differences between them. Somebody here mated the birds head grip section from I believe a MK3 and the barrel of a MKVI. It looked close (and quite nice!) but it's not exactly the same thing.

Depending on which parts you're talking about, some "might" be compatible, but in all honestly
I haven't tried it myself. The internals of the WG are quite different from those of the MKVI.

Kind of like the differences between... a Colt 1911 (made in 1911) and the 1911A1 made in 2011. :)

Send me a PM and we can see what you have in mind. :)

GM Chrysler!! My "prop" has finally made it to Canada!! Was worried because the shipping status said "Item sent back to the sender due to wrong / missing information on the label.", but somehow it cleared the customs and finally it arrived here!! It's a beauty!! I have to saw off the plug in front of it, but wow... just wow. What a craftsmanship Russ!! Thank you sooo much!! Pics to come!!

I'm glad you received it! Shipping mostly finished items to Canada always makes me paranoid. The only other Webley I've shipped there was a true unfinished kit.
