So, to try to be clear and concise.

I am referring to the below statements from the perspective of the hat wearer...the person who has the hat on, his point of view.

When the hat is worn (on your head) you should turn the hat more to the right? So the ribbon above the left ear is more forward and toward your left eye?
The crease therefore would be slightly to the RIGHT of the bridge of the nose of the wearer of the hat?

Yes. I mean John....you make the hat with that 'turn' already done, yes?

You got it Car. The ribbon does turn slightly more to the front. The ribbon is one factor I totally forgot to mention #-o

No, wrong. The center crease should be over your nose.

Follow the video or the link Jeff posted.

You put on a open crown ( non creased hat) you turn the hat about a 1/4 inch or so. Your turn the hat clockwise when viewed from above like you were a bird looking down at someone. Once the brim has the asymmetric brim look then you stop. Crease the hat in that spot. DO Not turn it back before creasing. The bow when creased will be creaping up to your left eye. the knot of the bow will be in front of your left ear instead of being or we your ear.

Do any of you guys get the Pharrell Williams comments while wearing you Indy fedora? I got it last night, although I do believe the person who said it to be under 28 years of age....guessing.

For those of you who don't know who that is, you will have to google him. He is a singer/entertainer; has a popular song called Happy.

I did a google image search and a few pics had that really large hat, but most of the hats were him wearing a normal looking fedora.

Doesn't bother me to wear the hat out in public. I know what it is. I feel like I have that 1940's classic vibe going on. I just need to find some vintage era clothes to match my classic lid.

I teach school too...so I know how random young people are these days.

He actually does wear some decent looking fedoras other than the Arby's hat.

There's a sprint video in which he's wearing a pretty decent brown fedora.

I do know who Pharrell Williams is and I think he is a great recording artist/entertainer/etc... I love his music !! How Mr. Williams wears his hats is a debatable question. If you look at some of his videos or pictures, he is wearing the fedora correctly but in others ..... not so ( understatetment !!) and that's his artistic choice. Here's the thing car96, if you like the fedora and you are comfortable wearing it... then who gives !!?? If you teach then you are the example ( however you want to take it) but if you like wearing the hat then have the conviction of doing so. Kids in school are always testing their superiors/teachers, by wearing your fedora you not only make a classy fashion statement but make a distinction about yourself and by doing so you need to stand behind it. The worst thing you can do is back off or make them feel they can tell you what to do or judge you, in that parlance you've given up the fort. Hope this helps, we'd all like to see you do well. Good luck and we're here for you. :TOH:

Thanks micsteam.

To clarify, it's only been one person who works at a clothing retail store I go into a lot...I won a gift card to said store and have been going in there for about a year to try and spend up the 'reward' and this girl in there knows me (you know, not personally) and she just said, "hey, look at you looking all spiffy in that Pharrell hat." I said, 'It's not a Pharrell hat." and just left it at that.

I just meant because she is kinda on the young side, I think she is anyway, maybe somewhere between 23-28...it just reminded me of how youth doesn't identify with classic style anymore; well, not many of them do, in my opinion. They go with the latest fads...but yeah, that is youth, always will be.

I'm 26 years old, I've been wearing fedoras for the past 8 years, when I was 21 I had to stop wearing them because I couldn't handle people calling me names all the time it went from Johnny Depp, cowboy, but for some reason never Indy. A couple months later wearing hats became fashionable and the same people who mocked me began to wear them and started asking why I was not wearing my hats anymore, it took me a while to realize that I shouldn't care what people think and just be myself.
Now to my point, a month ago a guy in his mid 40's called me Pharrell while I was wearing my raiders AB, it was rather dissapointing seeing someone his age confusing/comparing my hat with that dude's hideous thing, honestly I just turned around.

I don't think being young has anything to do with this, we live in a time where being ignorant is being cool.

I'm lucky enough to live in a town where men still wear hats on regular basis. As long as I wear it with "regular" clothes, I just got great comments on my AB Legacy Raiders :)

great, now I have that horrible hat in my thread again. :-0

just a FYI. All december orders are in the mail. Working 7 days a week and thanksgiving has paid off. I will be working though the holidays to get a jump on the new year but I will not have any to ship until after the new year. If you haven't gotten a e-ail or your hat yet means you are in january orders or later.

Yes, the 'Arby's hat' is ridiculous, but it amounts to a costume piece.

On the whole Pharrell dresses very well and in a variety of very nice looking real (not trilby) fedoras.

I would take such a comment as a compliment. Or take it in the same vein as people that don't know the difference between a fedora and a cowboy hat.

As a comment on hats being 'in fashion' I was flipping through Details magazine waiting for my dentist and was surprised by the number of ads featuring decent looking fedoras. That says more to me than any 10 articles written about whether something is in fashion or not. If a brand pays to have a hat in a ad and pays to place that ad in a magazine, that says there's a market out there for people wearing hats.

Indiana Jeff

Walking through Kohl's the other day I noticed several of the banner's showing store sections depicting well dressed men AND women wearing very nice fedora's, so the same goes in that regard. What's odd is, they don't SELL 'said' fedoras in the store, which was a shame. They're nice looking examples too! :(

Anyway, back to the Penman discussions........ :TOH:

Happy Christmas everyone, hope it was good.
Had the misses take a couple of pic's today, this of course is my new ABL after a month or so of full time wearing to break it in, and I'm lovin it.

Even worn it in the rain, not a heavy rain, but it got wet. Been meaning to ask John, how much rain can this rabbit felt take.
To be honest, if the weather call for a massive down pours or very heavey rain I'm nervous of it getting soaked through and through.
On to the pic's.

Any felt hat will shrink and tapper if the core gets soaked. After making that statement. I have been wearing mine out here in Oregon and we know how much rain we see out here. I would suggest if your going to hit heavy rain season to wear your beaver and save this one for the hot months of the year as this will be light and perfect for the summer.

So, no...not using tap talk...etc ?
