That LC jacket is way too big for Slater. Could it be that Peter made a few jacket deviations (black leather, etc) during the time of LC and then sold them off? The jacket looks Harrison Ford sized - perhaps made for him during the initial costuming.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but actually the first Indy jacket was made by Western Costumes, (the one that actually appeared on film in the Hovitos chase scene) and that they made the jacket following specific orders and specs...and that Cooper and Leather Concessionares made their final versions of the jacket basing their patterns on the Western Costumes cloth jacket? This would actually imply that no one individual owns "intellectual rights" to the jacket, other than the most obvious, Lucas Film, as the wardrobe specialists and other personnel were working for Lucas Film and for the production of Raiders when these events transpired?

At the very least, it would appear that we have a working copy, something tangible, a physical form that could be used to copy, eyeball, or otherwise make patterns from?

LOL! Bink, that's HILARIOUS!
I was just about to post a reply on the thread, and that popped right up as I hit the SEND button, haha...I think we tried to post our replies at the very same time, and yours beat me! xD!!
Anyhow, not to be too distracted, here is my more "general" reply to this thread ;)

I LOVE this discussion. I have been following it semi intently (as I'm not the world's most avid reader, and tend to start drifting when I see a bunch of words on a screen ;) But I must say, I have been dwelling on this whole issue of who made what jacket for what scene for quite some time now, even going so far as to arranging my indy screen-grab shots to find what I consider to be the best direct comparison between the (two hero) jackets. Submitted for your approval:
Image
On the left, the Cooper, and on the right, the Leather Concessionaires (Wested).
The thing I take away from this is that the Imam scene jacket seems to be longer in the back (lending SA cred to my OTR ROLA, which is noticeably longer in the back compared to the WOS/Raven Bar jacket, imo).
Don't know if this adds anything to the post as these details have been discussed ad nauseam, but I'm particularly visually oriented (barring Bink's Caricature! LOL), and this image helps sort things out to a degree in my own mind. :TOH:

Lets be careful about pulling in observations from our replica jackets and try to keep them towards screen grabs/movie stills and try to avoid muddying the water. 3 pages from now, someone (possibly one who only reads "semi intently" ;) ) may take the "longer in the back" comment as cannon and start calling out jackets already made. There's other threads for those discussions.

I have 4 jackets from Wested, 2 raiders and 1 temple of doom and 1 memphis Belle A2.
Should i make a bonfire and toss them on it and pretend that Wested never existed?
Any suggestions?

_ wrote:Now, calling it a jacquard? Jacquard is a material with a pattern woven into it. Think heavy drapes? Think the play clothes in "The Sound of Music.". How best to make a proof of concept mock-up that can be reasonably assured not to be used in the shooting of the movie? Make it from something completely visually unsuitable, ie jacquard.
Could be too they wanted to use a heavier fabric that would hang/drape more like leather than a thinner cotton mock-up. Especially since they were trying to incorporate the side vents and pleats. Though, jacquard is not necessarily a heavy fabric. There are silk and light cotten jacquard fabrics as well.
I wonder if any of you screen shot jockeys can pick up any floral patterns woven into that jacket in the chase scene where he's running down the hill.
The pattern wouldn't necessarily be very obvious. Ian confirmed a paisley pattern, but it could have been something tone-on-tone like this.

Just spit-balling here.

Just lifting up an arm (right) could make the back of the jacket ride up.

Hey Indydawg, long time man....and good to see you are still kicking.

_, I wish you were a hat guy instead of a jacket guy. So much about that Raiders fedora is still one big mystery. So, if you HAPPEN to glean any fedora info, it would be much appreciated. Thanks. Fedora

PS. This jacket stuff has made my head hurt! But keep up the great work! Anybody ever tell you you have bulldog traits? A compliment. Or maybe bloodhound traits too. Once your nose is on the trail, you just don't stop! Even if it leads you all over the world. Great read!

So...you still have your A-2?

Oh yeah! That Real McCoys fixed me right up. But I am in the market for a second one, one that I don't put all of the patches on. I am getting tired of younguns calling me an old biker! Can't they see the aviation references? Guess not!
Hey Steve - There is fedora stuff around, but when it comes to what's valuable I seem to be "obtuse and thick"... There must be a way to bridge the gap...

Please keep an eye out for ANYTHING in regards to the Raiders fedora. The data on this hat is pretty scarce. Since D.N. personally took the only hat she had to France, there seems to have been a holdup on the order from HJ. But don't want to clog up the jacket section here with fedora queries...Fedora

I have two AMEX receipts from Steven's card to Herbert Johnson, Ltd, and the reimbursement he took. The first was for £175. The next was for 5 @ £875. So it looks like six total for £1,050. I don't see anything through B&N. Is this helpful?

But, you're right... I'll make a point of it and post anything I find in the right place.

You know...that's funny...I also get a lot more comments (usually of the type that Fedora is talking about) when I wear my Aero A-2..it's got the 14th Photo Recon squadron insignia on it, and when I wear it, people ask me why I'm wearing a "Bugs Bunny jacket."

I supposed I should just be glad someone still knows who Bugs Bunny is  ...

Is the reason people wish that Wested/Peter didn't make a movie jacket is because they've had such bad quality issues with their orders?

Re: Somebody convince me...

Posted: Thu May 06, 2010 8:27 am
by Mike
I don't think anyone in trying to get to the true lineage of the jacket has "wished" that Peter didn't make the jacket. Bringing up a dormant topic with a statement like that can be taken as baiting. Careful.

I agree, Mike. I haven't had that great of experiences with Wested, but that doesn't mean I wish they didn't have a part in the jacket's creation. I would be absolutely fine with knowing that Peter actually made the jacket, regardless of my dealings with them. As long as the truth comes out about how the jacket came to be, I'm content.
