And the promo card must be specific to your purchase if you signed up for their email.
I tried the code but it says it was redeemed already, buy thanks for trying.
I'll sign up for the emails, get my code and order it up.

Now for the buttons, and if this one fits and the collar sits right, my Vaboom will be in Ciro soon.

Hope this works out for you, Croft :)

Too bad its cotton. It kinda lacks the chunkyness. Im really torn tho, I dig it.. but the chunk is not there.

MOTB season is creeping up again and Im all in for upgrading my current set. :whip:

I have a few similar cotton sweaters from Bean and they’re actually very nice.
I’m hoping this one is as good.
I have a very chunky REI pullover cardigan style, so I get what you mean.
But if you’re going for look and not actual function, this should do nicely.

Received my LL Bean Cardigan, and while not ''chunky'' like Dinty-More stew, it's thick enough.
Pictures soon, getting over a small bout of poison ivy. :x
But soon.

For the buttons, on my Vaboom I used the recommend 25mm, but unless your going to have the button hole made larger, 25mm is to big.
I tried my 25mm button while on my Vaboom and tried pushing it through the LL B, and there to big.
the LL B button measures between 3/4'' - 13/16'' I think I'm going to try 20mm)

For length, pending on your current jacket and it's length, on mine it does come out more that the MOTB,, but seeing as I'll probably be wearing this with my Cockpick Roughneck jacket, tried on and comes less. Back length is longer. \:D/

And it does feel comfortable, so while the search continues for the Cardigan, this one feels closer to it than I've been in awhile.
The Vaboom is nice, but I like the LL B better, but then I've only tried it on with a jacket, see some field testing will have to happen, winter is coming.

Over all I give it a

As someone living in SoCal with the current temp over 100 degrees today, I’m jelly of all y’all that can wear a cardigan and a leather jacket at the same time. I might have a few days out of the year I can wear one or the other. Never both.

Only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger is the length. I'm into function more than SA, BUT I'd love one that just sticks out a similar amount as Indy's...

Hollowpond, I'll see about about getting a pic later today. I'm 6' tall frame and will see how it fits with my US Wings.
Regarding buttons, I just found that Mood in NY has the 20mm for <2 buxcks a piece if bought in bulk.

https://www.moodfabrics.com/antique-lea ... -20mm-5566

I am going to place an order for the 20mm if anyone wants some, i get order more.
They also have them in 23mm.
Croft, how much "too big" to youthink they are?
In the pic above the 20mm almost look too small to me (especially compairing ot the screen shot a page or so back.

Bottom line is that functional is key here as well.

They do stock a 23mm version as well. I may get those and see how they work. But I’m trying to minimize shipping costs

HOLT'S MYSTERY OF THE BLUES* Builders thread

Post by Dalexs »

Ok, quick pics taken by my shorter daughter...
I'm 6' with arm measurements of 35 1/2"
I bought the standard Regular Large.
Jacket is an older US Wings prototype.
Front is 27 1/2 from top of shoulder.
Back measurement is 25 1/2 from bottom of collar stand.
Scarf is dark taupe Alpaca from Amazon.
The buttons on this sweater are 20mm, so about 3/4".

This shows general color and unrolled sleeve length. Plenty of length to roll up a bit.
Image

This sort of shows how long it looks the back.
I'm going to chock that up to maybe pulling it down a bit and some shrinkage on the jacket over the years.
Image

This one sort of shows how much the bottom edge hangs out. Again, depending on jacket, your mileage may vary.

Right, 20 years ago I was the ribbon guy... now I'm the button man! :rolling:
Let me get prices on them with shipping.
These are the ones I'm looking at.
https://www.moodfabrics.com/antique-lea ... -20mm-5566
Buying a bulk amount so far is $1.75 each. $7.00 shipping for all.
Then I would need to ship to you. But I doubt that would cost that much.

I may also just snag them from Jonathan’s eBay source. Waiting to hear back for some info.
They ship from Point Pleasant NJ and may be a much better price.
(Anyone in that area?)

Regarding the button size, the 25mm when I tried pushing it through was difficult.
23mm might be also, but could work.

But you can put me down for 6, $10.50 is less than the Etsy I was thinking of getting.
Plus there US based, mine are from Hong Komng.
I’d rather go the US way.

Croft
PM your pp and I can send payment when your ready, plus I’ll add some to cover some shipping

Look forward to getting m6 set, I’ll contact the seamstress and let her know of the up coming job.
She’s a godsend for my project like this, I can sew a button on, but on this kind of material, I’ll leave it to the expert.

The buttons are in. I’ve contacted those of you who initially asked
I bought 2 bags of 20, so I think I have enough for 4 more sweaters.

I need to get packaging and post rates, but I’m not thinking more then a few bucks total.

That's a good catch. Haven't seen anyone point that out yet. It's like the top portion of the shawl collar is sewn on :-k

Probably explains why that collar lays differently than other cardigans as well

Good Luck, Tennessee!

For about 15 years, now I've been looking at Google Images / ebay listings / etsy listings using all manner of word combinations that include
"mens vintage shawl cardigan sweater rust brown orange" ...
and I've had VERY little luck finding something that Looks the part of the cardigan Ford wears in MotB

So, frankly, when I found this L.L. Bean number I was pretty thrilled; speaking for myself, I've never had something THIS close

(and by the way, the Shawl Collar on this sweat does have a seam in either side where the ridges transition from "horizontal" ridges to "vertical" ridges along the back of the neck... that was one of the things I'd always been looking for, too)

Anyway, each person has to satisfy their own need to find whatever it is they feel they're seeing in screen caps of Gear (I know that only all TOO well LOL)

So, anyway, all the Best of Luck to you!

(and if it helps, make sure to you ALSO occasionally incorporate the words "Steve McQueen sweater/cardigan" in your searches ... that legendary actor Also wore sweaters with Details VERY Similar to the one Ford wears in MotB)

:)

Now the Buttons are on there way, Thanks Dalexs.
So while there the wrong buttons I wanted to see ho it looked with my DoD jacket it'd be the one I start
wearing it with (minus the whip and holster of course :TOH: ) to see how much it hung out, did some but I
can live with it, also took some with the jacket I'd be wearing it with the most, my Cockpit Vintage Roughneck Oil Driller Jacket.

Once we get some snow Bttrrrr, yuko, I'' take some more with accurate buttons.

Over all, I like the fit and feel, not over weight and has a nice overall feel.
Anyone who purchases one, won't be disappointed.

YAY
And my buttons came in from Dalexs, thank you sir.
There perfect, but I have a sickness, there a nice chocolate brown.
Took them down stairs and hit them with some 600grit sandpaper and nocked the shine off and
revealed some nice lighter brown underneath, along the edges.
Perfect for that vintage look.
Now for the seamstress to pick it up and put them on.
Pictures when she does.

And Hollowpond, I’m so glad you love your new acquisition, I like mine, specially the collar.

yeah. It's awesome.

Crazy gearhead question: Wonder why they opted for no bag in this episode, and if they did use a bag, where would the strap go? It's chronologically after LC, so over the jacket? or over the cardigan and under the jacket? or under the jacket and cardigan!?!?!?!

Inquiring minds want to know!!!

My understanding is they had Harrison show up with his jacket, and actual, personal “gear”. Or at least what he kept from the films. They shot the scenes in, or near, Jackson Hole, WY where he lived at the time. My guess is they didn’t think about it and Harrison never took one home to be able to bring one.

What material is it.

And do you have any pictures of both light and dark together.

No worries on the pictures, something are more important, Canary islands, nice.
I've found a dark scarf I want to try in 100% Alpaca Wool.

We shall see, as I can see the appeal of a little darker than the taupe version.
Safe travels.

Me again.
Darker taupe scarf is in, sweater is done and should get this week.
I’m in the same camp, based on my above shots, the scarf is to tan, and should be a little darker, we’ll see.
And as long as I get it before my surgery, I’ll try to take some shots.
