I am not really understanding what you are saying here... Are you saying that Mags LC jacket
IS NOT accurate or
IS accurate? IS the list above what a LC should have or what mag's has???

So that's a list of what the LC jacket should have that the Raiders doesn't? Is that what you were saying? Or are you referring only to the the first Slydini jacket ?
This is why the first Slydini jacket should be forgotten in these discussions.

I only brought it up because in that picture it looked similar to me

Hope nobody minds, but the dept of that pocket flap is actually pretty good for a LC one

Yes sir, that's always been the stand out feature to me. Any Wested LC jacket has always come with poor pocket design. Surely this is not hard to get right - or at least improve on. I.e., the pocket flap comes close to half way down the pocket.

So the bottom hem of the jacket should be stitched, or not be stitched?
Some photos of 'auction' jackets it obviously is stitched, but other photos it looks like it may not be.

The pocket looks nearly square to me. So 7.5 (H) x 7 (W) with a 3.5" Flap should do the trick!

The strap on that jacket is attached, whereas this shot from before the above scene, shows it's come loose

It doesn't look stitched closed to me. It does look like the side panel is turned under though.

Uh, ok, just in case my comment is unclear, I mean it's stitched closed at the top of the vent where the strap is. My TN CS is like that. Unlike the Raiders jacket (or at least the Raiders jacket I have).

OK, so you are saying the pleat is stitched closed at the strap. The vent is the opening below that.

Yup, I realized I was unclear. I think that the "stitched sidevent" terminology was used on Wested's old website as a custom option, but I remember that even confused them when used

The Smithsonian LC jacket has two different radius pocket bottom corners. The corner closest to the zipper a larger radius.
Is this something just on that jacket or all LC jackets in the movie?

Hey, I was looking at some images of the Kurtz jacket today and noticed that it has cloth collar stand inner facing like the Westeds of old.
I know that some say the Kurtz jacket is not screen used, don't know either way, but I'm curious if anyone can find evidence of the cloth collar stand facing in the film.

Baldwyn, Dutch, anyone with info on distressing method on this jacket ....did a search on Kurst jacket and couldn't find any details...not that it looks that natural but do wonder how they got color of leather and lining to look so close ???

this jacket was sandpapered in a hurry in the backrooms just before it was sold on the auction..

So, is the color match of cotton lining to leather distressing just a photo artifact ??..........man they must have used a dremel tool or a straight edge to get that straight line of 'distressing'.....

It has the most bizarre and unnatural distressing of any LC jacket.
Does anyone know the full story behind this 'Kurtz' jacket?
Re: Last Crusade jacket thread
Posted: Tue Apr 28, 2009 4:40 pm
by Holt
yes I beleieve so... just a coincedence... the flash makes the distressing look lighter then what it really is....
to get the exact same distressing lines, you need to wrap sandpaper around a wodden rectangular block. Then you need to lay the jacket as flat as you can and hold it straigth against the floor so the jacket wont escape while distressing.
no problem

no... I am really wanting to try to have the original maker to recreate the Last crusade jacket. becasue I think the pattern they use today is closer to the original jacket then what people might think... it just need some polishing...

Kurtz as in Gary Kurtz, this jacket went on the auction block July 29th, 2005. It sold for $94,400.
http://emol.org/emclub/?q=starwarskurtzauction
It is believed that this was a back-room distressing job and this jacket was never used in production. I don't know what the arguments are for this. If it isn't screen used, it definitely is made to look like it was used in production from the damaged lining, worn through collar stand facing, Berman and Nathan's label with "Indy III" and FORD written on it.
http://filmjackets.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8
BTW, if you look at the above link, it seems to me the Kurtz and Smithsonian jackets are at least similar in the way they were distressed.

Agreed, that they are two similar but very different jackets.
It would be interesting to know the history of the 'Kurtz' jacket, from it's beginning.

Love this thread
The LC jacket mystery.... a movie could be made on this one item alone!
Here's another pic showing the Wested's version of the LC collar.

The back and side straps (placed 3" from bottom of jacket).

Cheers,
JTW.

the straps on your jacket is to low placed and the collar looks actually really good but a tad to pointy.

say what you want. even though this is ''confirmed'' to be lambskin and I believe that at least most of the jackets are made out of lambskin. This looks spot on to cowhide. I can see why so many people believe this is cowhide when looking at pictures or screen grabs like these. again it IS spot on to cowhide.

That does scream cowhide (or moos it). There are several times in the movie where the jacket really appears to be cowhide. I would have sworn it was cowhide before I came here and heard about it being lamb.

Actually, the top pic (front collar) was taken during the initial stages of distressing, about three months old. The pic of the back panel is a more recent one, fully distressed and the jacket is now a year and three months old.
Much colour changing and distressing has taken place, in fact I've never really stopped. I'm always finding another spot to mess with.
Holt is right - it looks a lot heavier and more substantial than actually is 'in the flesh'.
In fact, this jacket is quite light weight but it photographs very well.
JTW.
