Good news, most of the jacket feels better now. The oils seem to be redistributing themselves a little bit. Not over the whole jacket, but part of it. I ripped the armpit seam too, but Im fixing that right now.

Clearly you've not been in the Army!
:rolling:

Especially when it is 0200 on the first night of a field problem, you're soaked completely through, even to where the sun doesn't shine, and it is supposed to rain for the next week. Then it ends up being another week before the sun really shines and you see a building. Granted its a concrete block building with open window/door/mouse holes, so its breezy at night, but it feels like a 5-star hotel that one night you actually get to sleep in it.

Oh the memories...
Glad I joined the Air Force. ;)

Wow sorry for the major delay in reply there. I've been seriously busy with my PhD, summer getaways with my gf and *ahem* newest games console...

But I really wanted to see a decent Todd's page up here, great job Basil. Ironically I've since grown out of my Todd's (which was already on the small side!) and decided to upgrade to a Wested :?

I'll get my coat... :Plymouth:

I have a question for anybody that's bought a Todd's Standard recently. With the new sizing chart is it still recommended to go up one size? When he had the "+" sizes, a Todd's XL was the closest fit to a normal 44R or size Large jacket. According to the dimensions on the chart, now a Todd's Large seems to correspond to a 44R or other "Large" jackets. :-k

(BTW, I'm just over 5'10", ~185 lb's, and broad in the shoulders...and no, this isn't a personal ad :o. I figure somebody on here has to be relatively close to those dimensions...)

Ok I got it, some oddities though.. zipper on the left side, the arms are really long but the jacket length is really short.. and it kind of has a bell shape to it overall?

Zipper is meant to be that way, and arm / body length ratio sounds right. What do you mean about the bell shape? Could you post some pics?

Hey, gang; New here, but been an Indy costumer for years to... errrrr... "varying" degrees. After recent upgrades (thanks to Todd's), I'm very pleased with the look, and so I signed up here to share with you all. My jacket is a Todds, obtained secondhand from eBay (I actually now have 2 after another recent eBay win [couldn't let it go for $89!]; so I have distressed and "new" versions of the Todds Large).

I may mention that my hat is VINTAGE ("Borden" the maker); my bag Canadian (eBay), my strap a Todds; Holster, Todds; shirt, thrift store Army Surplus find ($3.00!!), modified by me (front pleats); pants, thrift store, pretty darn accurate, $4.00!; boots... old work boots.. Aldens someday...

It's not shrunken lamb on the standard unless he's started to offer it for the Custom. Todd does some wash process to the skin before a jacket is made if you request it, but only for customs. still not the same as shrunken lamb.

I think this was mentioned previously when the new jacket sizes were first mentioned and said that it is new skin with some texture but not shrunken lamb.
Maybe it is now, interesting if it is.
Todd has said before tat he can pre-wash the skins before a custom jacket is made, but as I said that still isn't shrunken lamb.

I hope this does not come off as any type of criticism or insult.

I am just not sure how I feel about this jacket yet, I can't warm upto it. My Wings' A-2 2000 in goatskin just fits perfectly and looks great and has a shiny tough yet smooth leather.

This Todd's is the new style/sizing. But it doesn't look ANYthing like MadKidJedi's.

It's lambskin and very smooth and thin which I like. But it has a very matte finish and like I said earlier it bells out (like fits nice at the top but looks like a bell as it goes down). I don't know what to do. The adjustable straps don't help much.

I'm not even all that fat but the pics make me look that way

Mod Note:oversized pictures. please reduce or post links

Blue, I was a little ..... :? ....disconcerted too, when I first received my Todd's Standard. I mean, it arrived in a light weight, little box, and I immediately thought...is there a jacket in there? :-k but once you start using it, distressing it, etc., it develops some of those 'character lines' and marks from previous 'adventures' in a concrete jungle or otherwise, and it begins to grow on you. Otherwise stated, it is a good jacket for those cooler, fall days.

Hey, all!

Just want to chime in here before mis-information begins to take root...

BTW blueoakleyz, you're free to return the jacket. If it doesn't fit, it doesn't fit.

The "new" and "old" jackets. Much too much has been made about the difference. The pattern is the same except for some minor tweaks. MINOR tweaks. I've made tweaks on every batch I've ordered. The new batch is mainly different in that the sizing steps are more in line with standard sizing.

I don't know much about tanning, so I don't know if the leather used last time is technically "shrunken lamb". I doubt it. It is shrunk somewhat to produce more grain, but nothing like what I've seen called "shrunken lamb". The leather difference between the last run and this run is minor. The last run was pretty nice, too.

This may sound weird blueoakleyz but could you loosen the side straps and see if the belling gets less pronounced? The only tine I hade something like that happening was when they were too tight.

If that doesn't help it is best to discuss this in private with Todd ;)

It shouldn't be a sensitive issue issue.. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the jacket. He already said I could return it there's no issue there..
It'd be like someone buying apples after only ever eating oranges. It's not the tree's fault the apple seems different.

BTW is anyone having trouble accessing his site?

Anyway I've tried the strap either way. I don't know if I'm a lost cause or size down or should just wait and get something custom or what..

Well, depending on the fit, it's nice to have a little room to go over your bag, whip and holster. If I'm not mistaken, that was one of the original considerations that they had to deal with in adjusting the jacket.

I think the pocket holds the front out a bit until you rumple it up and mold it to you. Zip it up about 6 inches and tuck the pocket flaps partially into the pockets (this is a look that these Todd's jackets absolutely do brilliantly). If you have the room, draw in the side straps a bit and then wear it to bed (I'm not one of the folks who can tolerate letting a soaking wet jacket dry on me - and I honestly don't think it's needed with a Todd's).

I have to say that with all the different jackets I've had, Todd's standard captures what is in my mind's eye the screen jacket better than any - the color, leather, drape, movement, weight. It is jungle light though, so Nepal may be out. Stick to South America and Tunisia.

i would say neither.... hand roasted, hand ground chocolate with some cinnamon. Like my sister in law makes in Mexico. Everything else is imitation. :D

It's a great jacket. It has a real nice colour. Give it time like the others say, maybe rough it up a little wrestling with the kids on the carpet.

That reminds me... When we were in Park City, UT a couple of weekends ago I saw a guy wearing a Todds standard in the grocery store. The distinctive feature: pocket flaps, they looked good. It seemed a little small on the guy so it didn't look quite right. I told my wife and she said (of course) "I don't like it." But she did like the seal brown cowhide I tried on the next day a store in the historic district, not Indy, but is was nice, but not for $1400! We get a good deal with Tony and Magnoli!

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread... :Plymouth:

I don't think it's any heavier, but from the photos it appears darker. There's a couple multiple-jacket-owners around here; I'm sure they can confirm. Reference Mountaineer's post about half-way down page 3 of this thread.

my todds jacket is dark but it looks the way it does in the opening shot of raiders when we first see harrisons face --- i love my jacket and think todds jackets are the best for the price , that you can't fault him on . people like my jacket and when they see me dressed as indy they know the jacket right off , and i'm talking people that don't usually get into the indygear as we all do here . my jacket was a xl+ when i got mine in feb. and now that the weather is getting cool here in chicago it a great jacket for the fall.

For what it's worth I also think that the jacket just needs to break in and mold to you. Don't sweat it. Additionally these pictures make me want a Todds even though I have no need for one.

Shove it in the washer on cold then wear it until it dries. And yes, that's my answer for everything jacket-related.

Trust me. ;)

Todd's standard gets some not so flattering comments sometimes as light weight and 'costume', but the Todd's standard I have is very comparable in materials and construction to my Wested ToD's.

Is yours one of the new batch?
