The Fieldmaster on Mt. St. Helens hike. Made it to the rim. What a great trip.
The first is about half way up.
The second is at the rim of the volcano. Even up there is was warm out, but at least there was a breeze and the remaining snow made it a lot cooler up there than down at camp. That kid Zack was so elated that he made it up there, so was his Dad. The snow behind us is the cornice that is clinging to the rim. You didn't want to step out on that. It wouldn't end well.
The head wasn't too over heated even on that climb. I'll wear that lid again next year when I get roped into doing that climb again.
Cheers!
Dan

Thanks Mitch, most appreciated. I think we'll do that one again next year. My brother-in-law will be doing Mt. Adams to the east of Mt. St. Helens around this August or September. Might have to try that one next year as well.
Here is one that gives you an idea of how steep the climb and decent is. This is a little over half way up & I had to stop to grab a bite to eat. The body spoke & I was getting a little dizzy at that point, so a nutrition bar & a couple of shot blocks later I was good to go.
The classic hat shadow. I couldn't resist.
And classic exhaustion & thirst. This one is up on the rim looking south. Mt. Hood is just barely peeking out behind my hat to the left & Mt. Jefferson is back there over my shoulder to the right.
Cheers!
Dan

Yes, very nice looking hat. The Fieldmaster '36 was a great hat. Never had one but they always looked great!

It just may have at that Interchange. The 1936 Fieldmaster is my go to field hat because it can take the beating & it still looks pretty much fresh after about five years of regular wear. I need to replace the sweatband because there are some kinks in the wire reeding that has taken the bell out of it, but other than that, bullet proof.
It was a great trip and I got to meet a great group of people from Gerber Knives that were part of this trek up the volcano. The down trip was a bit painful just because of the older shoes I had on, but other than that it was super fantastic. I swore I wouldn't do it again, but in reality I would go over and over again. I just needed better footwear.
Cheers!

Thanks for posting those pics. I haven't been able to wear my Metro as much as I would like, but I'm looking forward to putting in some serious wear this fall

I have heard rumblings that Camptown may shortly 'ride again', so keep an eye on the vendors section for any announcements.

Daniel, I like your non-indy yet adventuresome gear. What is that scarf looking thing you're wearing and where can it be procured?

Thanks Sloan, most appreciated. Those neck wraps are called a Shemagh. It is middle-eastern in origin but our military issues them to our troops as well. I think I got that one from Blackhawk Industries for around 19 clams, but you can find them at any surplus store or on Amazon for a lot less. They are very versatile as a scarf, a head wrap, wash rag. They keep you cool, like when you rub them in the snow and put it around your neck, or keep you warm. Good at keeping your neck from getting sunburned too. Like my Fieldmaster they are my go to for outdoor adventures. I have several that I couldn't find the color I wanted so I bought the white one at a surplus store and dyed it. Pretty simple.
Cheers!
