Dalexs,

I am still waiting for bulk discount info from the supplier. No word today.

The previous post was working with what I have at present, and for any casual buyers - some from Europe.

You of course don't fall into that category and he is aware of that ;)

Our biggest problems so far have been the minimum order thing and finding a US source. I found this buckle today and it looks like the min order is 10$, I know it's brass, but the dimensions of the inside look like 1" x 1-1/4". What do you guys think?

Looks pretty good, but I still think that if the buckle isn't perfectly square, than it should be slightly wider, than it is tall. Alot of the buckles have been too tall for a Raiders style. The ones Austin found are as close as I've seen yet, IMHO, and they really have an authentic look to them.
I just sent a few to some guys today, and when they get them, they can report in on what they think of them.

Ah but it is square, on the bottom you will notice a shadow that makes it look rounded. It also looks curved too.

-------

By the way, I just talked with someone from Wooded Hamlet and if you mail a check, then there is no minimum order. I'm going to get a couple and post some pics.

Are you certain it's square? By my moniter, I get a 1/8" difference left to right, as pictured, than I do top to bottom.
Just wanted to clarify.

I was told that it was square. It's also curved, the apex of the curve is at the center bar. This might be what is giving it the illusion of being somewhat round. Hope I'm not being confusing.

I think we might not be on the same page on this.
I definately understand thet the buckle is square, meaning all 4 sides are flat, and the corners are 90 degree angles, it is not curved in the least, around the border. It IS curved in a concave way, sort of like a LC buckle.
What I was saying, was it's sides aren't of equal length, meaning that the top and bottom bars are longer then the sides, as pictured, by 1/8th of an inch, going by my monitor size.

The curve could be adding that perceived difference Blues

Just confirmed the inside dimensions: 1" x 1-1/8"

This question bugged me a little, so I have been trying to find some evidence. Then I came
across the following picture on the official site yesterday. I am pretty sure that this buckle
is curved similar to the ones I found, at least in this shot. I can't see any way that this is
a straight buckle as the light (whichever direction it's source) appears to be showing
curvature.

It seems to me that the lighting is coming from the floor, at the idol pedestal base, and
reflection is only on the bottom half of the buckle, throwing the top half into shadow...
However, Indy's face has full light across it....

Thoughts?

That strap almost appears to have a leather keeper above the buckle.

Here's a little comparison pic:

Image

The Todd is a bit off. WPG's buckle is OK, but perhaps a tad small. The "Dudley" buckle has a great shape, though it's a couple of millimeters wider than the others. In order to get the most out of it, a wider strap might be required.
Btw, that's a Todd de luxe strap in the pic.

I originally thought the buckle too wide, but when I measured my
custom strap I found it to be shy of 1". So I dug out my WPG
strap and it fits perfectly.

SJ, is your strap exactly 1" in width?

Can you try the WPG strap on yours to - just checked again and
it's fine, although I hate the strap...

Yes, indiana_dudley, it looks better on the WPG strap - apparently, my Todd Coyle strap is a mere fraction short of an inch, which makes quite a difference.
My WPG strap is way too short, though. And I don't like it either.
Hmmm... a new strap project coming up... the buckles are well worth it!:D

Dalexs wrote:I don't really think it's an issue to bulk purchase these buckles.
There are enough people who want more then 1 to make it worth while.

I would be willing to make the purchase, and feed them out from here
DEPENDING on what the bulk cost would be.

Dalexs
Dalexs,

I finally have a bulk price on these buckles. I will PM you details, but posted here so as to
stir up interest from potential US buyers for you.

Awesome thread. Regarding the raiders photo above, I believe the strap is reversed so we are actually seeing the back of the strap and buckle so it's hard to tell what we are seeing as to the buckle details.

Regarding the buckle comparison photo, can you add Lee Keppler's buckle? And is Todd's deluxe strap a full 1" wide?

BTW, here can I find Todd's merchandise?

Thanks for the continued research!

I'd like to see a Keppler next to the Dudley too... unfortunately, I don't own one. Perhaps someone here does and chimes in?

It measures a little less than 1" - 2,48 cm quite exactly (mine does, anyway)

I believe this to be the correct assumption.

L.C.M.
I see what your saying guys, but if that is the case, then surely the strap is also being worn
completely backwards with the doubled leather part of the strap going back up over Indy's
shoulder and not down to the bag. That would of course also make the strap exceptionally
long in order to have the buckle where it is...

If you imagine normally with the strap reversed it would be the lower part of the buckle that
would be covered by the leather connecting the buckle, not the top half. Plus the top bar of
the buckle would also be covered by the strap going up over your shoulder. Take a look at the
back of a buckle on a strap...

Unfortunately I don't either, just a collection of non-Indy looking samples, and a WPG.....

I pretty sure that all of the other people that have bought buckles/straps so far are first time
buyers. So don't think any will have a Kepler for comparison. The only person i can think
that may is Swindiana?

Sorry guys, I don't have a Keppler buckle. I've heard they are pretty close to what WPG offers though. I was totally happy with my WPG buckle when I had it, only it was all brass back then. Now that they are nickel, I think they are perfect. I wouldn't order a bag just to get the buckle though. ;)

The WPG buckle was pretty similar in size to my stamped one as seen in these pics:
Pic 1
Pic 2
Pic 3

Until I find one that matches this one in size and one that also is not stamped, my quest continues.
Still, there are buckles that are VERY good and nice looking, like the one from Dudley. Thanks again! ;)

Swindiana

I watched Raiders a few days ago. In the scene where he has just gotten off of the submarine which had taken the ark from the ship and gone to a small island. I noticed the 2nd German uniform Indy put on after the first one was from a guy too short and skinny.
Look at the buckles on the two straps. They look exactly the same as his bag strap buckle. If you follow the scene forward for a few minutes to where they do the ark "ceremonial-opening" you will also notice a few other Germans with the same strap/buckle. The strap is probably web/canvas but the buckle looks "dead-on" to be the same buckle as Indy's bag strap buckle.
Just something to think about and maybe worthy of study by members. Of course it's easy to check quickly if you have the DVD. At least you know about what scene to jump to.

Cheers,
Robert Duke

I'm @#$% at explaining, but that is also exactly what I mean. Re-read the previous post
with that in mind - excluding my first point.

Are you able to adjust the gama on that picture above?
It looks like the buckle is there just dark -like it was curved - the way that the bridge of Indy's nose is dark.
