Well Han, I think the L might work for you anyway. I know Todd says he's a 40 chest, so he's a med. and the L he's wearing in the pics look good and I thought some others have done the same thing.
I just bought one and I'm a M. as well. I figure for the price, and my past experience shrinking a todd's with a shower treatment (I also restreched it in similiar fashion), if it's not right it can be made to work.

The zipper might need something like Vaseline to make it pull a little smoother? Also there are some creases as we have been told. Not sure how to get them out without soaking. Also I have a PRO garment steamer. Not sure if I should use that on the creases?
Candle wax is commonly used to lubricate zippers. Rub a candle on the zipper teeth. Also, you may notice some trouble joining the zipper at the bottom. The plastic stiffener at the bottom may be warped/melted. Warm a pair of needle nose pliers with a candle and flatten the plastic. That should improve it.
Don't use heat - it will stiffen the leather. To remove creases use some water in a spray bottle and dampen the backside of the leather where the crease is. Give it a few minutes to loosen up. It is doesn't, give it another shot. The collars I would just give a quick dip in the sink and let them sit. When the leather turns pliable, put it on and stretch it around your neck.
Remember, not everything will shrink - the zipper for example. The pockets also don't shrink much - too much leather there. Unless you pull the back into shape as it dries, it will shrink more than the front.

Hello Everyone!
Ok, I know there were some issues with the insulated/insulated linings but the "insulated" lining should not actually be too much warmer than the regularly lined jackets. They have a thin layer of a pocket lining type of flannel so it is not a thick flannel, so as far as the insulated liners being tighter, id have to say no.

Late reply. Have been at a pottery seminar. Yes, mine is an XL, Holt! Mighty fine jacket it is. Some differences I see in these jackets and the Todd's Std.'s of old, they are cut truer to your usual OTR size, and the yoke is a bit lower than the SA Raiders jacket. The leather has quite a bit of character. Naturally the photos are yet another

Back length (From the bottom of the collar stand seam to the lower back panel end) is 64cm
Straight line sleeve length (from the end of the shoulder seam, nearest the arm to the cuff) is 62cm
Let me know if anyone needs anymore? (The middle neck to cuff is listed on Todd's site I believe...)

Got mine today, I would say the large is just slightly bigger than the old XL from a few years ago. The hide is totally different from the standard. Almost seems more like goat.

So we have large jackets that range in size from a 38T to an XL?

gmarthe wrote:So we have large jackets that range in size from a 38T to an XL?
The old xl was more like a true large. The Bantu large is a true large I would say but not oversized like a Wings VIP large at all. I think if you were a medium you could shrink the large a little and it would easily work. I'm a 43 chest and the large fits really well however if I was a little bigger I would go with a Bantu xl.

What are some of the differences between the 1st's and 2nd's in terms of irregularities that you guys are seeing? I have a first, and there really are no major issues, other than the back panel is not spot on accurate to the film jacket. The leather is soft and the zip works fine.

OK. measured the jacket down and about the famous yoke. forget about it. this yoke is perfect IMO. I just LOVE how it is. IMO it is a radiers yoke. I took my older pattern Todds and compared and the yoke is exactly where the older is which is at perfect heigth for raiders but the top shoulder seam sits more on top shoulder making it a ''correct'' sitting jacket now the funny thing is it still keeps slipping of my shoulders. may be my build?
about the leather. this aint cheap at all. it's quality lamb leather and todd is right on the money, it is way more sturdy then any lambskin I have felt. it feels very sturdy. the grain. OMG, (yeah I said omg.lol) I asked Todd if he could sort one out with the most grain and my,m,my did he find me a nice one. Thanks my friend.
I can see todd has reworked the pattern form the old XXL-A. the collar is way different. it has bigger lapels and a longer neck opening. the side pocket go into the lining. perfect! the pockets flaps are exaclty like the Imam jacket. the waist is WAY better and the sleeves are much roomier and more raiders.and about the ''round'' curved yoke. I watched raiders yesterday and the yoke curves slighty down on each side of the panel just liek this one. the XL fits me WAY better then my older XXL-A jacket. YAY! PERFECT. It actually feels like I am wearing the real deal. dang!
all in all. I am VERY happy and I can't find one singel flaw in this jacket. no loose threads. etc. just plain freakin awesome quality raiders jacket.
Low yoke. HA. good one Todd
pics will come! trust me.

Well, I just ordered another in a size smaller. I ordered an xxl because years ago that's what I needed...now that it's more of a true xxl, it's too big. 'Course, my gut's a bit bigger, but xxl may still be too big. Since I got an insulated one, it will be perfect in the winter for layering. So, hopefully my xl will come non-insulated. Just couldn't pass up such an incredibly, and I mean incredibly, great deal. Thanks again, Todd.
Oh, and Holt, I agree totally about the quality of the leather. It really feels more like nice goat, than lamb. Very tough, very grainy. Awesome jacket.

like I said in your pm to me just now. IMO this jacket is very SA. almost perfect. yeah. the yoke is smaller at the sides but it's just the sides cause of the shoulder seam is sitting on top instead of pushed bakwards to the rear. the Todds jacket is in NO way bantu wind looking. no way. the yoke is way to high for that.
Re: Bantu Wind Todd's jacket thread...

by Texan Scott
The yoke on these jackets is somewhere between this SA jacket in the photo and what came to be known as the BW-dock scenes that were the first filmed. That one really does have a low yoke. Todd meant it as a joke.
Re: Bantu Wind Todd's jacket thread...
Posted: Mon May 16, 2011 5:49 pm
by Holt
sure.
I just double checked and the yoke depth on my older Todds is about 5.5'' from collarstand to yoke. and the ''bantu'' is exactly that! 5.5''
perfect.

been thinking about this while I took a shower and whats so funny is that we would all go BALISTIC 10-15 years ago over this jacket. we would not even notice or even care about the yoke. so basicley we have become spolied brats in this hobby. lol
.IMO this very jacket has it all. IMO it has the exact same vibe/style/look when Indy climbs up to the temple in the beginning of the movie. I cannot see a difference between the two besides the normal placed shoulder seams. wow.

Holt, I'm not saying people are spoiled, but I was not expecting a perfectly SA jacket either, especially for that price. IMO, his older runs of the jacket were spot on. I don't think that any jacket maker before or since has nailed the look (of what the screen jacket actually was) as completely as Todd has in the past, liner and everything. His own description of these jackets were true, and yeah, there are many features of these jackets that have alot going for them, leather included.

I'm in agreement....It's the most "SA" jacket I own...And although that's only a small choice, it's still the best jacket for Raiders look.... It is stunningly close to the film...

So with the shoulder seams pushed forward, wouldn't that equate to the "Enhanced" fit Todd was talking about experimenting with in the poll he did many months ago, asking about lining's and fit preference?
The only thing I DON'T like about the true "Raiders" jacket, on ME anyway, is the way it can tend to "bell out" around the bottom. If I put the shoulder seam back, the bottom front can kick out. If I put the seams on my shoulder (like when it is zipped up), the bottom back will push out.
I CAN'T wait for my jacket to arrive. I'm a little concerned that the size range has varied so much for the large. I hope I don't get the XL sized version of the Large.

So many variables. This jacket is a great compromise of a screen accurate vibe, a great hide, and everyday wearability. I think the construction is significantly better than my XXL of a couple years ago. I got an XL, and it looks like whats been pictured here already. Funny, the yoke seam on my old XL did not align with the back sleeve seam at all, while this jacket comes closer.
I agree with the grain: I reached for my G&B goat tonight for a quick motorcycle ride and actually grabbed the new Todd's by mistake! They were hanging right next to each other. Only the feel and weight gave it away.

For all those that wanted the Standard with a heavier hide, this is it. Actually fits better imo, the Bantu arms are a little wider.

According to the tracking - mine left UK customs yesterday, so should arrive today - too bad I'm at work. It means I'll get home to a card from the mailman saying "We tried to deliver but you were out..." and I'll have to collect it from the Post Office tomorrow, if I can get there before it closes (I hate the fact that the post office only opens between 9 and 5.30 and I am at work between 8.30 and 5. It doesn't give me a very big window to get there before it closes.) If I can't get there after work then I'll probably have to wait until Saturday!

Great jacket!!! I see what you wanted the larger size for! It does look great mate... Good choice! (I like to have slightly shorter sleeves for the most part, but yeah, I agree, sliding them up will sort that out in no time!)..
Cut and shape all look made for you.. And while roomy it's certainly not too big.. I'd say it's spot on for Raiders.. Well shaped but not huge, cut to the body but also with "room to breathe"... Quality jacket mate!
