No new posts from Fedora. I wonder how things are going? Maybe I shouldn't ask. I don't want to mess anything up for him.

I am generally successful at these
endeavors, and our timing couldn't be better, with only pre-production
underway and everyone involved getting back in the 'excitement' mode for
this project, plus so many things still up in the air for logistics, we
are staged to be a great position to do this. I love it.
Fedora wrote:Hey guys. Nothing new really, although I got all sorts of interesting inside info on the business. Right now, I will drop out of sight for a bit to work some long days in gettng out existing orders as well as making hats to send out west. One is Fords. I will get pics soon. This is latest word from my contact.

So, I feel pretty good about it. I spent the last few days reworking my Raiders blocks, as something came up that brought my attention to one facet of the block. Nothing big, but essential, especially if you are trying to get your hats in the film. It involves the side view of the hat. There is a nuance there that needed to be changed by 1/4 an inch, and I finally got that accomplished. Geez, and I thought I was finished with wood working. But, no more mods on the blocks. I don't think I can get any closer. Regards, Fedora
I knew about the block shape being a part of how the "look" occured in the Raiders hat but I had no idea that PAM and Durham's Water Putty were used too.3thoubucks wrote:Fedora, would that nuance have something to do the with the block I made and demonstrated 9 days ago? More than willing! It would make for a great story to my hat was delayed because Indy 4 cut in line. Might even make the hat more valuable.Indiana Jerry wrote:I'm sure anyone w/ a hat in the works would be willing to deal w/ the slip in delivery in order to make sure the (hopefully) Indy 4 hats get done and out pronto!

Regardless.......for everyones info here, that long oval 22 3/4 inch hat will be turned and styled Raiders, Idol grab(per specifications via my contact).

Hi Pitfall,Pitfall Harry wrote: Wow. I wonder why that style was selected over the "SOC Bash"?
Do you know if the hats their wanting for the 4th film are all supposed to be modeled after a particular scene....like "The Idol Grab" or the "SOC Bash"?
Pitfall Harry wrote:I'm assuming they'll use that hat as an example of what Fedora can produce and then they'll decide IF they want to use the AB.
Fedora, if I'm wrong about that then you can correct me.To this he had said if his name was in the credits, or if he was advertised at all, he would probably retire because the orders would be too much to handle.Fedora wrote:Well guys and gals. When and IF I ever get a chance to order an AB myself then I'll request the SoC bash because I love that look.![]()
Pitfall Harry wrote:I did want to ask one thing. Fedora , IF the hat is choosen for the film do you think you'll end up having to raise the price IF you get overwelmed with orders after the film comes out?
Anyway - Mr. Delk - Congratulations!!! That's awesome! I'm sure Harrison is going to love his hat - can't wait for possible pics!

Yes, I read that but in the same post you quoted he said this.

Just to be clear. If I do get the AB into the film, this would motivate me to keep on for much longer. But, I would sell under the radar, as there is no way I could keep up, with a website advertising the hat. By word of mouth. I do not see how I could do it otherwise. And if they do indeed follow up with 5 and 6, I would want to be in production so I could do these as well. Sandcastles again, but heck, anyone in my shoes would be thinking the same thing.figured this ment that he wouldn't retire like he said in the earlier post. If the longshot falls short, but I still get to see Ford putting on one of my hats, I will still be one happy camper.
I am just so gratified that one guy, a notable guy by the way, likes my hats so much that he wanted to do this for me. It is amazing, the generosity of some folks. I am still in shock. Fedora
Hmm...after this is done might you be able to tell us who that is, or is this a secret that you must keep? Just a-wondering...Fedora wrote:I am just so gratified that one guy, a notable guy by the way, likes my hats so much that he wanted to do this for me. It is amazing, the generosity of some folks. The idea of turning the hat to get the right look is taken for granted here, but I wonder if Harrison Ford was even aware of it. If he wasn't, he may wonder why the pinch is off center in this new hat. This may be something you would want to ascertain before it gets into his hands.for everyones info here, that long oval 22 3/4 inch hat will be turned and styled Raiders, Idol grab
Good point, Russ! How do we know, if Ford knew his hat was turned. Maybe this happened "by accident"?Russ wrote:The idea of turning the hat to get the right look is taken for granted here, but I wonder if Harrison Ford was even aware of it. The same concern applies to those on the Indy 4 team who will be examining your samples and making decisions on hat suppliers.
Yep, it could have been turned by someone else who did the bash, and handed to Harrison who fiddled with the hat but probably didn't change the orientation of the bash. Maybe the person who turned the hat didn't even notice it, or isn't with the team for the next movie, in which case the secret is lost except to those of us here.IndyJens wrote:Good point, Russ! It appears this has all been discussed and agreed upon, as you need to read the REST of the sentence.....PER SPECIFICATIONS VIA MY CONTACT, so all we need to do is sit back and let the master do his work.Fedora wrote:.......for everyones info here, that long oval 22 3/4 inch hat will be turned and styled Raiders, Idol grab(per specifications via my contact) Fedora
Yes, I did see that, and you are probably right. Still I had to wonder whether the "turn" was included in the specifications; such a thing can easily slip through the cracks since it's apparently a subjective thing, with each head requiring a different degree of turn. Steve himself has said that hats turned by customers look better than ones he's had to turn without seeing it on their heads. So this puts the turn in a slightly different category from dimensions, color, and materials.Michaelson wrote: It appears this has all been discussed and agreed upon, as you need to read the REST of the sentence.....PER SPECIFICATIONS VIA MY CONTACT, so all we need to do is sit back and let the master do his work.
A lot of people (myself included) could feel that it was 'twisted', until the hat relaxed and settled into the new oval. A turned hat on a round head shouldn't feel at all strange (I'd guess), but the more oval in the block, the more the hat might resist - at first.Pitfall Harry wrote:When Fedora turns the AB's and you put one on do you notice that the hat is off center?
Indiana_Tone wrote:What Jerry said. I've noticed with the few quality fedoras of mine that a turned hat is physically unnoticeable in terms of comfort and feel. (Oh yes, I've turned them, people! I just turn them 'back' once I'm done.) The A/B and the Akubra have very comfy sweatbands in them. The only reason it may feel odd is because your brain knows the hat is turned. Otherwise, it's a matter of lining up the pinch along the nose bridge.
And with the AB, you just have to think at it. It'll do the rest.
Indiana Jerry wrote:Was your hat blocked round, round oval, or long oval? I'm suggesting that this would make the difference (if those shapes match your head shape, anyway). If your hat is a long oval, it isn't 'ROUND', so it can't just be turned, the oval of the sweat and crown need to be resettle. I your hat was made on a round block, then of course you probably wouldn't feel it.
(Marc or Steve, correct me if I've misfigured.)
Indiana Jerry wrote:I'm sorry, I forgot, Harry, you are talking about an Akubra. I was thinking you had an AB - my apologies for the mixup.
This is OT to Steve's topic anyway, we can take that up somewhere else. Sorry about that, Steve.
