You must choose. But choose wisely, for as the true Hat maker will bring you happiness the false Hat maker will take it from you.

I did get a wierd contraption in the mail today. Looks similar to what doc Brown had on his head when Marty knocked on his door in the past.

That would probably be a "conformer".
Best not to be seen wearing it.

He starts them. I wear them and they morph into something else. I've only had this one a few days so it has more of his fingerprints and fewer of mine on it, but it's actually starting to change quicker than beaver felt does. This new lightweight rabbit felt is pretty neat stuff.

Yeah, I placed mine at the beginning of the month.... I wear my Penman LC daily, so the wait isn't so hard this time around.

Cool, so we are getting them around the same time.
I've ordered several hats in the past couple years, so I should be used to the waiting times by now, but nooo, I'm an incredibly obsessive person and there's not a single day that goes by that I'm not thinking about when I'm getting the new hat. My girlfriend is going to have a hard time bearing with me.

I just realized that even tho I've posted pic's in another thread, I never posted in this particular thread.
I've been wearing this ABL ever since I opened the box, not with standing a heavey down pour or a HUGE Nor'easter.
John this lid is awesome, I catch my self looking into any reflected surface and I just see Indy and awesome.
Thanks again.

Nice looking lid
I'm in the market for a new hat myself. I was wondering about the bow though, it looks like
it is a bit forward on the hat.
Did you order it this way, or is that the norm for these?
Thanks

Marcus ol buddy, that's the way it comes, took me a bit to get used to it, but if you study the SOC hat you'll see the bow that far forward. Called the "turn"
I can't wait for warmer weather to take some real good shots, these were taken about a month ago and it was cold, brrrrr.

Yup, the turn is a Raiders only thing but that's one of the aspects that makes the hat. I have an AB Henry that has a slight turn and now that the crease and pinch are pretty well cemented, I sorta missed my shot at including a good turn... but looking forward to that with the ABL when it comes.
It does bring to mind a question, which may be partly directed to John himself... did I need to say anything specific about including the turn when ordering or will it be present just by virtue of being a Raiders hat? I just sorta figured the standard order of an ABL Raiders would be as "Raiders" as a hat could be.... heh.

John turns his Raiders fedoras as a matter of course. If you want it without you have to ask.

APL, I might be mistaken, but the ABL, this particular fedora is based on the SOC hat and John will automatically be putting the turn, I don't believe he's changing how that will look. But John should chime in confirm.
Either way, this lid is epic.

Just one thing I need to add or be clear about. the Advenutrebilt Legacy collection is just that. A collection of Indiana Jones specific hats. Thee will be no options with these hats. First one up is the Raiders (which you can order now) in the hero brown and thats the only color I will do. Later I will add other Indy hats like the hero CS and the train travel hats (using Steves martial, blocks and secrets). Some others I will add to the collection like Young indy, Tolts hat, the fedora guy hat from LC, etc , etc. again, these will have no options. example. Can I make a dark moss young indy hat? or a CS in pecan. Yes but not in the ABL only using the Penman brand will there be options. The ABL will be the only way the AB brand will continue once Steve hangs his hat up.I will not be doing any style hat using the AB name.
I will still be offering my versions of all the Indy hats I do now. You can have them in any color I offer with different ribbons, etc, etc. All the Penman hats including the indy will be done as pristine as possible like my customers know I have done in the past. example of my madness. My Penman Raiders will be as SA as possible but will be a clean up version of that hat. no floating stitches, etc, etc. The AB Leagcy Raiders hat will be the more SA hat with the floating stitches , etc, etc. Now we are talking about 5% difference but I never liked coping poor craftsmanship and putting my name on it. AB being the Indy hat maker of them films and Steve being the guy to Raise the bar when it comes to SA Indy hat specially the Raiders hat..I thought it works out best that the most SA Raiders hat using that new felt of mine makes sense to do it as such.
Ok, now that I went on for some time here. I hope things are clear or as clear as mud.
I think I might have to do a write up showing the difference between two hats. stay tuned.

For anyone wondering how the ABL might hold up I offer the following photos taken about 60 seconds apart. (You CAN try this at home)
The before picture -
The after picture -
I have taken this thing everywhere in the last month. I fold it and put it in a motorcycle saddlebag and it bounces right back. In a restaurant, I don't worry about putting it on the floor. I roll it up and put it inside the sleeve of my jacket, then hang the jacket on the back of the chair. No fuss, and no way to leave it behind. I swear I could do this all day and the hat would bounce back and look even better for it.

Wow, looks as though it would make an excellent travel hat.
John can all hats withstand that kind of treatment or is the felt on this particularly suited to be packed.

I'm not an expert on this, but I think Penman and Adventurbilt hats are really the only ones you want to roll up and put in a suitcase for a long period of time. Due to the special way they are built, they are the definate Indy hats. if we are talking about Federation hats, that's a different story.

The felt is not really the limiting. Issue on being able to fold or roll a hat for travel. (Other than obviously western hats with 40 lbs of stiffener in them). The limitation is the sweatband.
Akubras have a wire reed in the sweatband that will kink if you fold the hat. Penman, Adventurebilt and Garrison (I think) use a sweatband with a nylon reed. So DO NOT roll up a Fed IV. You'll wreck the sweatband. As long as the sweatband can take it, however, and provided the felt doesn't have so much stiffener that it will break, it should pack okay.
Additionally if you pack a good fedora for travel (which I do a lot) consider buying a shoe bag to contain the rolled hat. It protects the hat and holds it in rolled condition.

Thanks good advice. I've got a shoe box, now just need a Penman/Adventurebilt!

My AB is definitely more faded from the sun. So hard to say as one is newer but I would say my ABL came slightly lighter in color which I believe is how John said it would. I love the color though.
Thanks.
