Just wanted to show you this picture taken this morning on Tahrir Square in Cairo, where the protesters concentrate and are camped. It shows Egyptian christians protecting their fellow muslims while they are praying, in case there are clashes. Although I am agnostic (no religion), I do believe in God. And things like this touch your heart.

Kudos to the Christians for their truly Christian attitude. If more of us were like this we would live in a wonderful world indeed.

Guys,

I asked Peter to make my jacket as following:

- Raiders of the Lost Ark model
- size 44
- Dark brown in soft goatskin
- inside leather facing
- Rectangular sliders with X-box stitching
- Yoke and arm seams not lined up
- Larger sized cargo pockets
- ONE PIECE (small) underarm gussets
- Slit inside pocket
- Snap button to the bottom of storm flap (hidden)
- Standard Raiders collar going HALFWAY the zipper and the storm flap
- Cotton liner to the body, and satin to sleeves (the liner at the sleeves holes not covering the inside leather)

:)

Guys,

Just talked to Peter over the phone. He said my jacket will have to be in a bit lighter brown shade... he doesn't have the very very dark brown. He said it's still dark brown though in goatskin.

I asked him if it was the same shade as my standard lambskin, he said yes. So, I think is very dark, because mine is dark in depending the light. Sometimes get lighter when the sunlight hits the jacket.
This picture was taken 2 years ago, the very next day after I left Peter' shop with my brand new Wested:

or here, more recently:

It will be a good jacket, regardless of shade of brown, and will quickly become your new best friend. Goatskin jackets just do that, regardless of maker.

Hmmm... any thread here with the pics of this jacket??? :-k
Curious to check it out...

When you say "reinforce".... do you mean the seams of the liner, etc... form inside?

well, there is an 11 page long thread on that jacket.

it's on page two or three.

no, not the liner, inside under the liner. ask them to do reinforced outside stitch endings. like armpits, vents, yoke, pockets, shoulders.

Holt,

I had a look on your goatskin jacket... wow, amazing.
I sent Peter another email asking for the backpanel to be lined up with the yoke. I hope Peter doesn't bother :[ ... I called him 3 times, sent him many emails. Just want my jacket to be really nice. I asked for the specs I listed before and said it was Holt's specs (not dimensions of course, although I am size 44).

I can't wait to have it. Then a nice shower in cold water, only from the outside, a soft brushing, and then some sandpaper on themain parts just to give the well worn touch. THe rest is natural distressing (that doesn't include bullets this time :P)

be carefull with the sandpapering tho. it can rip the sewing thread. i would just soak it and wear it. a good hot soak will kill the shine and make it look really nice and worn in.

Holt,

I did it on my Wested "bullet holes" lambskin... I used a fine sandpaper and did it with care, being carefull not to sandpaper right over the sewings. But I do love the distressed spots... will do it, but carefully.

About washing the jacket. I used cold water on my current jacket and let it dry naturally. Doesn't warm water shrink the jacket? Only hot water kill the shine?

another question... after i wash and sandpaper the jacket, I would leave it to distress naturally overtime. Should I use Pecard right after the wash/sandpaper? Or can i wait after some time? I don't think I can find Pecard in Beirut, will have to order it form Todd's...

So, here's an update of requirements I asked Peter to do on my new Wested Raiders dark brown soft goatskin, after tips form Holt and Michaelson. I hope Peter gets the email and read it... :)

- Raiders of the Lost Ark model, 80's slim cut
- size 44
- Dark brown in soft goatskin
- Inside leather facing (don't need to be wide, just enough to keep the zipper form snagging the liner)
- Rectangular sliders with X-box stitching
- Yoke and arm seams not lined up
- Backpanel lined up with the yoke
- Larger sized cargo pockets
- ONE PIECE (small) underarm gussets
- Slit inside pocket
- Snap button to the bottom of storm flap (hidden)
- Standard Raiders LONG collar going HALFWAY the zipper and the storm flap
- Cotton liner to the body, and satin to sleeves (the liner at the sleeve holes not close to the edge, not covering all the inside leather)
- Reinforce stitch endings like armpits, vents, yoke, pockets, shoulders

Just a word to the wise....don't go TOO overboard on this. =; All I said was be sure to tell them to make it strong.

As I understand this, Wested is replacing your jacket on their dime, right? Don't overdo and make them regret their gracious offer. If you're paying for it, well and good, but if not.....well, you may want to let this be your last request and let the cards fall as they may now.

Just a suggestion. If they incorporate all your requested points above, you'll have a very nice jacket indeed. :TOH:

Regards! Michaelson

I told Peter your advise was the reinforce and make it strong, not the list I post it.
I am paying for it, with a discount. I don't mind paying more, as long as I have the specs I need. Peter has his work and he has the right to ask the amount for it, that's fair. :)
Will call Peter tomorrow to make sure he is ok with it. If needed, I will pay the price he ask for this requirements. As we say in Brazil, what is right is right!!! :D

it doesn't really matter wheter its cold or not. the point is getting the leather fibers wet and when the skin dries the fibers tighten up and shrink alittle. the only thing you do NOT want to do is to speed dry it with hot air or something. that you will regret.

you actually do not need to use pecards right away on a goatskin. the jacket will tell you when she needs the pecards. I like to pecard my jackets once a year. the goatskin will be pecarded once every 3rd year or something. goat is REALLY hardwearing. I have seen a 60 year old goatskin jacket that looked brand new compared to a 60 yeard old cowhide.

Aha, I understand... well, I was planning the cold water shower and then natural drying, no hot air.
As for the pecard, good to know about the goatskin and how resilient it is.
Thanks Holt for the insight...
