The problem with speculating is that you're doing so with none of the facts, and you're causing damage to a berieved family's business. YES, Riley should be communicating more, however, on the credit card issue...

_, this is very simple. Though it may be correct with most businesses, nothing you are saying applies to this situation. It's not Riley's business. The owner has DIED. Riley CAN'T get a credit account for a business that IS NOT HIS. You can talk generalisations, but you simply don't know the facts of this situation. I know enough to know that the whole credit card thing is a non-issue. Once the legal / estate constraints are sorted, then we'll see. But until then, the (bank) criteria you are inferring are at work here simply DOES NOT APPLY.

On orders, again, sticking to FACTS, Riley was asking for people to provide proof of payment - bank statements, etc. The quicker you could provide that, and he had the hides onhand- the jacket would be made. He had (still has?) a list of all the orders that he was chasing, and had confirmed, and has been working through them. (I haven't spoken to him for a few weeks.)

For what it's worth, when Riley gets more back in contact, I would NOT HESITATE in ordering another jacket via Paypal or whatever.

If it helps anyone here, I received an e-mail from Riley a few minutes ago responding to one I sent last week. He explained that he is out of state and will be back next week.

That's a separate issue, and is fair enough. All I am saying is that you can't infer a broader state of the business by the fact that there is no credit facility. Simple as that. This discussion has been straying into those sorts of inferences.

Re spending considerable energy - hardly. Just one of those being-your-own-boss and spending too much time procrastinating on the internet things. Besides, I think your word count is far higher than mine!

I wouldn't say I have Riley's ear per se. But as far as helping the others - I'm already well ahead of you.

Yep- I got word from Riley today as well! When he gets back on the 7th I will be placing my order! I am so very excited to get this jacket! It's the last piece of gear that I will need!

I also received an email from Riley today.
That's definitely one step towards establishing better communication.

I'm glad to read that you guys have been in contact with Tony, as I'm in a very similar situation with IndyFalco. I ordered two jackets in November and recieved my first on Christmas Eve, with the understanding that I really wanted to make sure my Raiders was perfect. So Tony and I kept talking about the jacket for months, and I asked Tony for a little time to lose a few inches I had gained at Christmastime. But when Tony passed Riley and I were back to square one, as neither Tony nor I had taken notes about my jacket. Then I had to leave for my honeymoon, and now it seems Riley has been hard to get in touch with.

I am happy to see happening what I hope is the beginning of some resolution on this issue...
Hopefully it will lead not only to satisfactory outcomes for the customers who have felt like they were in consumer "limbo"... but will also eventually lead to a steady flow of satisfied customers who don't hesitate to engage in business with "TN", Riley, etc and DO so based on months & months (and years & years) of great service, product AND communication.

Having said this, I've never wavered in thinking that exercising caution (no matter what a customer HOPES to be true) is always the best course of action...
I know it's not always a popular thing to take on the role of the "voice of concern", "voice of experience" or even "voice of pessimism" - people call it by different names. But whatever you want to call it... but I'm sure glad that _ isn't shy about doing it.
And to answer your question, Todd: Yeah... I DO remember JPDesigns... please don't ever let me forget.


When I first reached out to Riley (and was contacted shortly after by him) things happened very quickly, very efficiently.
Looking back on it now I not only realize that I was very lucky, but I also know that if I'd been experiencing the same delays that some of you have, that I would've been VERY concerned... and worried.
I really sincerely DO hope things balance out for Riley and that he's got everything on steady seas soon enough... but I sure don't see anything wrong with people throwing around words and ideas that seek to protect the Members of this Community either.
I love this jacket... but please know that I couldn't be more sincere when I say that I hope that EVERY Member here who also wants one CAN get one.

Lastly, I certainly don't mean to speak for him, but to anyone new to these Boards who doesn't already know this:
When _'s posting comments like the ones he's written in this Thread, the people he's trying to look out for is US.
The people he's trying to caution and educate on these matters? US again.

As I said, that's really just a piece of info for the newcomers (I know you people who've been here for a while already know this... y'know... deep down) ... but I say this because I know that when I first came onboard, I didn't quite get that.

Going through all the contributors to this wayward thread I have convinced myself that there are no Forbes top 100 captains of industry listed here so lets leave Riley to the unenviable task of sorting out the new framework for the business - without our knowledgable input - and rather return our attention to the splendour of Mitch's jacket..

Anyway, when we got back to the house I was switching out of my hardcore Indy Gear and into my "Indy-esque" day-to-day type gear when I remembered this comment (above) that you'd made earlier... so, I popped on my Penman Seaplane Hat and had her take a few snapshots so that you can decide for yourself if you were right.

I definitely think it can carry the look. It's a darker brown which lends itself well into the "non-earth" tones section.

Great pics and look Mitch,looks like you should be hanging out with maybe 'Bogie and Bacall' , or on the same plane with Indy.....

Thanks guys, I agree that the color of the jacket is such a dark, rich (almost "approaching black") type of color that it's a welcome friend to those more neutral grey & beige colors...

Holt, it's my understanding that the cost of a jacket in the 747 Leather is currently (but don't quote me) $950.00 U.S.
(But I stand to be corrected by those who may know better.)

mitch....that is an awesome look on you my friend. a terrific combo imo, and screams the dirty 30's era. a time when all a gent had were some well worn boots on it's 5th or 6th resole, denim work dungarees and shirt, a trusty leather belt, that leather jacket that needs to last until they meet their dream girl with the rich parents....and of course, the fedora to keep that sun of your head. adventure was easily found back in those days.....i always reminisce about that era cuz that's when a gents wardrobe had to be well made and built to last. the items on his person served a purpose and their was nothing luxurious about him or the time period.

these days, i have to buy jackets/boots/belts/jeans that are already weathered and aged cuz they would never get there naturally. man.....we are spoiled aren't we

that look paints a picture in my head of you and the rest of the ness gang, going out to hunt capone down that just confirms that if i were to get a car coat made in 747, i would have to top off my wardrobe with a grey fed.........now.....where to get a hat from

how is the leather in general? easy to distress? hard finish? heavy? thick?

To be honest, Holt... I don't know that I'm the best guy to answer that question (I mean, if you're asking me)
I'm sure that I've previously read mention on some Threads here about the weight of a 747 jacket... but this is only the third Indy jacket (or Indy-"style" jacket) I've ever owned... and given that the jacket I was wearing before THIS one was my Wested, then I'm naturally going to think that this one is heavier and thicker... but I don't think I've got the jacket vocabulary to tell you much beyond that.

I will say that it does manage to feel new & luxurious while at the same time managing to have an instantly "worn-in" look to it...
and those folds and wrinkles in the arms? They just appear so easily and give it such a great "lived-in" look almost right out of the box!

But as for the question "is it easy to distress?"... I'm going to have to say that I'll never know... THIS beauty showed up with such a great look that it affords me the opportunity to let it age one day at a time. I'm never going to "baby" this jacket (it'll get beaten up as the opportunities present themselves)...but I've personally got no interest in distressing it on purpose.

o, and I didnt mean for 'fake' distressing. a thousand dollar jacket like that would never feel the ruff surface of sandpaper. ever! non of my everyday jackets will. old jackets that I will not wear? okay. no problem. they end up like costume pieces...

I just got my Surrogates jacket from Tony Nowak Original and couldn't be happier !!

Very nice! Despite my love for the Indy jacket, I think the Surrogates jacket is Tony's finest work. From what I hear, he shared that opinion.

Yojimbo Jones, it's the 747 cowhide in a different color.

These days I way prefer the Surrogates jacket look to the Indy. It's neater, less 1980's and I love the back and the slash pockets. A masterwork re-invention of a classic 1940's horse hide utility jacket.

Yeah, I''ve had mine through the fall/winter here in the South and can't wait for Fall to roll around....It's a great combo of the classic styles, with a touch of the Nowak 'magic' in the blending of them and a very functional jacket ......love that 747 leather .....the 'Surogates' has a more 'burgundy undertone'/saddle leather' look than the darker shade used on the Raiders and really goes with the style of this jacket.........
