The film is about Indy's "last" adventure before retirement. At the end of the adventure, his hat blows off his head and slowly falls thosands of feet over a cliff. Dejected, but glad his mission is complete, he leaves. At the end of the film Indy recieves a package. He reads the card, it says :"Found this. -(friend). Sure enough, its his hat. He puts it on, smiles, and movie ends.
I'd like to add to this. When the hat goes over the cliffside, Mutt makes a failed attempt at retrieving it. Sadly ol' Mutt takes the 1000 foot plunge along with the hat. The note could still read "Found this...but not your son." IJ flashes that devilish smiles, roll credits.
HAHAHA YES!!!! You're my new best friend. :TOH:  \:D/

Woooaaa. Just noticed this after all these years! Indy actually loses his whip in the first scene of Raiders! When Indy hands Belloq the gun, Belloq is holding Indy's whip! He is still holding it when Indy gets up to run toward the plane.

This may prove Indy replaces his gear, although I STILL believe its the same hat.

Ahhh ... I dun-no. The hat he receives from "Fedora" is not the same hat, it is definitely not the same bash, I don't think its as tall a crown and the brim seems wider to me.
If we're taking the books as Cannon, this latest book "Army of the Dead" states the hat is the one he got from "Fedora," ok ... but they just don't look the same.
If we are to believe he had a lucky hat, the one handed off to him by Fedora, then the answer would be he had it refurbed into a fedora, with a wider ribbon. This too would explain the differences in what we see on film, as the series progressed. After an adventure, he pulled out the gray hat and had the brown one refurbed. Since his hat was actually pure beaver fur, ( making this up as I go) this means it was very durable and lasted him into old age. Afterall the lucky hat was brown, and all of his adventure hats were also brown, the only think changed was the blockshape used to refurb it.

But in reality, Indy should have owned more than just one brown hat. And if he did, he saved his lucky hat for his dangerous adventures, just in case he needed the luck. That is probably what most of us would do, with a lucky hat. Fedora

Thats it, Steve. That is exactly how it happened and how it was for Indy. You are his hatter, so if you say so, it is so.

You are his hatter,
Gosh, I think you may be right. I AM INDY'S HATTER. What an honor. Never thought about it in that manner. Just thought I made hats for Ford, for a film. Now I GOTTA get me a personalized license plate for my car!!! Plus, I can honestly put that on my granite gray tombstone.(but might go with the brown marble, more Indy like) Hey, it'll look pretty good! Might just put "Fedora Delk" on their too. Thanks Dave! Just doesn't have the right ring to it. Plus, I would think of the Lynyrd Skynyrd song, Mississippi Kid each time I heard it. A bit too red neckish for me. And all proper red necks have to wear caps, with Peterbilt, John Deere, or Red Man Chewing tobacco logos. Not my style. :D Fedora

In Indy's time, he'd just go down to the local haberdashery and buy a new one for five or ten dollars. And replacing his pistol wouldn't cost much more. Nor would he have to wait to pick up his pistol. The whip?

Can't believe I'm the first person ever to point that out to you! But, please, lets not talk about tombstones =; . In any case, go with the brown one... :P

I personally don't have a problem with Indy having different hats. Even in Last Crusade, the hat he gets as a kid doesn't look the same to me as the hat he's wearing on the Coronado in the very next scene. I'm willing to go along with the reblocking theory to an extent, but the Crystal Skull hat is obviously different from the Temple of Doom and Last Crusade hats, and much newer and more durable looking than the Raiders hat.

Another thing to consider as our hatters tell us, once you put a tight crease in it, it is pretty much there to stay, especially on a rabbit hat. ;)

Mississippi Delk? Ok, I must confess, while being from Mississippi, it just doesn't have that ring to it that Indiana, or Nevada. Guess it's just me though.

Yeah John, I think one of those articles called me that, much to my chargrin. I actually like "Fedora" much better. He gave Indy his first hat, and I gave him his last. Seems like my online name, chosen in the days of Indyfan, was an inkling of things to come. Who'd of thought that, at the time?

Coincidently, the Univ. of Southern Ms. has a football coach, called Fedora. Didn't like that much when I heard it awhile back!

Back to Indy's hat. I reckon if that first hat was rabbit, he HAD to replace it later on. Wore it out. So, he replaced it with beaver, as he wanted it to last him til he checked out. He was attending a meeting at Cobb Archeology Institute at Ms. State, as a guest speaker, I was in the audience, wearing a brown beaver fedora, and he caught up with me after the lecture........ :CR: Ok, the film is fantasy, so...........

 Hey with folks passing on all around me, in my age group, one does think about it, but only for a nano second. I come from families of long livers, so, don't expect to go anywhere for at least another 30 years. Anybody ever read Heinlein? And the Howard Foundation? It really isn't fiction, as I am a member!!!! :#: I may end up like Woodrow Wilson Smith, aka Lazarus Long. Plan to anyways. :lol. And as Lazarus often said, the best revenge is to outlive your enemies! Which by the way, Indiana had a habit of doing too! Fedora

Why is it that Young Indy had such lousy hats? With the DVD movie edits, which include new bridge scenes, it's really bad. On the Spring Break Adventure/Pancho Villa episode, it starts off at Indy's relatives' home, and he is wearing what looks like an old hobo hat. Later, when he arrives in Mexico and joins up with Pancho Villa, it's a completely different, much better looking hat.

I noticed that change too.

Now the eye of the peacock hat was worse... It looked plain ugly!
