I just ordered a light grey Adventurer
I´m really excited as this will be my first non brown hat.
But first I´m waiting, and waiting...

That is the same color I ordered. You will be very happy.

Your pictures convinced me to order the hat
By the way, do you have some more pictures?

...and possibly in different light condition beause from the pic I saw, that colour seems to be too light for a Raiders gray. But then again, could be the flash of your camera.
Thanks for your help Dr Ulloa

I'll post photos tomorrow. We are still feeling the effects of Hurricane Ike and the weather isn't too great outside.

I received my Christy's Adventurer about a week and a half ago. I was waiting to post here until I could give my new hat a nice bashing.
First, here are 2 pics of the hat, fresh out of the box from Hornet Hats. The color is Sable, and it's a size 57.
And here are 2 pics of the hat after bashing. I opted for a 1 1/4" turn and a SOC bash.
I give this hat two thumbs up. For the price, it can't be beat, and I'm thrilled with the results. I'm no hat expert, but the look and feel of the felt is very impressive, IMO. While the felt may not be suitable for inclement weather, it's the perfect hat for Southern California, where we see very little rain. I do plan to replace the hat ribbon (what's up with the poor quality and stitching of ribbons on so many hats lately? - to me, it's a key ingredient to the overall look of the hat, but it seems to be a distant second thought by many vendors).
While I wait (patiently) for my AB to arrive, this hat will serve as the perfect companion.

Beautiful hat Craig! And it does look really good on you!

Definitely! What Tremolo said, serrecuir!
That hat looks GREAT right from the outset, but to "top it off" (no pun intended) it REALLY suits you...
THAT'S a good pairing!
Congrats!

Thanks, guys! The comments are greatly appreciated.
I'm extremely happy with this hat. It's been tough to find one that "suits" me, as I have a narrower face. Not every hat looks great on every head, but I'm very satisfied with the Christy's. Now I just need to wear the heck out of it to give it a true "worn in" look.
Kind regards,
Craig

I was very happy of this hat at the beginning...
I posted some pictures (vanished with the post about this subject???)
BUT...I noticed that my hat was tapered out of the box so, it shoud be very difficult to bash correctly the body.
The dimension of the brim was perfect for me, better than the Akubra Fed IV.
The possibility to choose many colors was very interesting, especially the sable and light sable colors.
Considering the tapered form at the beginning, I choosed a "telescopic" bashing.
(I noticed that Erri had a perfect specimen out of the box...lucky man)
By this way, I had the sides "right" in front view.
After a big rain in Nairobi, the hat has been completely destroyed and finish directly to the dustbin...I was very very disappointed.
In fact, and since the beginning, I noticed that the felt wasn't enough thick and dense to keep the distance.

My Adventurer arrived on Saturday morning
I think it´s a great hat for a fantastic price. Mine has a slight taper, but as I didn´t buy it as an Indy hat it doesn´t bother me.
The colour is a very nice light grey in normal light and gets a little bit more blue in darker conditions. As someone earlier stated it´s very nice dress hat, the felt feels very nice and the Christy´s label looks very classy.
The only thing I don´t really like is the bow, but you can live with that.
I bashed it after the Crystal Skull train traveller hat. However, I turned it a bit to give it a little Raiders touch, as this hat seems to scream Raiders for some reason.
In my opinion the hat seems to be blocked a bit more oval than my other hats (Fed IV and Indiana Miller). Did somebody notice that too?
Therefore the crown looks slimmer and in my eyes a bit more Idol Grab/Well of Souls like.
I made some pictures with and without flash.

Nice lid...
And looks like you've got a nice trenchcoat to go with it.
Good man!
(I've gotta say, in those first few photos, I could NOT see any taper - so MUCH so, that I was starting to think that all this time I'd been misunderstanding what the word meant - although I guess that in the last couple I could see a bit.)
But, y'know... as has been said quite recently in a whole thread devoted to not sweating the dreaded "T" word... as long as you look AND feel good in the hat? Hey, wear it with pride.
All the Best,
Mitch

Thanks Mitch!
Yes, the trenchcoat goes very well with this hat. I actually found it in an old bag in the attic just before the hat was delivered. That was a good timing ;-)
Well, there is such a slight degree of taper that it isn´t really worth thinking about. Just wanted to say it, in case somebody here is looking for a perfectly straight sided hat.
I certainly wear it with pride

I went way back in the pages of posts...what happened to the main thread about the Christy's Adventurer? There were several pages to it; where people started getting them (me included) posted pictures, etc...
Was the whole thread deleted because it was started by 'the one whose name can't be mentioned'?

I find It funny to see that people are able to bash these hats pretty straight sided, without the hat being overly wide like the federation is now. I don't remember hats looking as good as this in a while.
funny
they look great gents ! Wear em with pride these hats look like hats ! the way they should be. Not costume pieces ;-)

Can it be that the Christy´s crown is slimmer than most hats? Compared to my Federation, Miller and Mayser it certainly looks so

What do you mean slimmer crown? Thickness-of-the-felt-wise?

I think he means that it looks narrower from the front.

oh yeah, narrower of course!
Did anyone notice that too?
But the felt seems to be quite thin as well.

I can't tell if you are for or against these things, but you are describing two of the characteristics that sold me on this hat. To each his own taste, ;-)

I think it is more of a perception than anything else. The crown appears narrower (or maybe "taller" would be a better description) when compared to some other crowns that are blocked differently and look "squatter," for want of a better word. Whatever causes the difference though, I like the Christys crown-- even with the slight taper, it makes a great Raiders hat.

Ah thanks Jack, now I understand. Yes I agree that that detail in the Christy's hats makes a great Raiders hat!

Now we got it ;-)
I´m for these things, and that special look of the crown was the reason for me to get one.
And I´m already thinking about ordering a second one, this time in brown, to give it a Raiders bash. That all just because of that detail.

Does anyone know where to get the wool version besides themovieshop.com? I'm trying to put some gear together on a budget for Halloween... and since I already have an AB on order... I'd kinda rather not spend more than $100 (with shipping) on a hat at this time...

There should be a wool section on their website

Ah... thanks. Hmm... I don't see the adventurer in wool, but then again their wool hats don't seem to be really that much cheaper... I may have to go with the fur felt anyway... either that or a DP.

Here are some updated photos of my Christy's that were just taken. It has been through a couple of light rains and I sanded the brim. I then flattened out the rear of the brim a bit and added some extra curl to the sides.

Yep, as far as I know my hat is like Dr Ulloa´s hat light gray. This colour really changes a lot with different light, even more than my brown hats ever did ;-) It´s a great colour

Light grey it is. All the photos I've posted have been indoors, so the color is affected by the artificial lighting. I'll try to take outdoor photos soon.
