But surely too thick and not 'drapey' enough? Goat, if anything other than lamb.

I've always thought the reason the ToD jacket looked so great was because of how thin the leather was and how well it draped. SO perhaps thickness should be left at the door on this one...

Left in the car, with the radio on, at most, I think. Thin and drapey all the way!
However..... it would have to be a fairly thick lambskin to give those awesome sleeve wrinkles, right? Or will thin lamb wrinkle just as well?

Me too. We're very close now. I'm hoping to be able to send everything to Sgt. Hack at the end of this week or the beginning of next (hoping but not promising
). It'll be a real treat to see the prototype--the fruit of Holt's and my hard work.

Nice work guys, I'm just catching up with it all now.
What cut are you going to suggest? Military? Full? Normal?
Posted: Wed Sep 17, 2008 10:00 pm
by Holt
more of a military cut.

That will be really interesting. I can't recall Wings doing a military cut for an Indy before (it normally seems to do Normal and Full cuts), so that will be a nice addition to its line-up, I think. Something different.

The prototype jacket should be ready by the weekend (hoping...hoping) and the spec sheet is ready to go.
If everything goes the way I hope, the package should be sent off beginning of next week. I spoke with Sarge today and he said it would be about 6 weeks after that and the Wings prototype would be done.
So much closer now.

How are you guys addressing the collar stand/collar issue on the proto-jacket?
Posted: Thu Sep 25, 2008 9:58 pm
by Holt
the collar is untapered and should meet the collarstand completly.just like the original.
the collarstand is going to be the same as their current jackets.

by coronado3
No, I mean the extention of the collar stand to become the top of the stormflap (collar meeting in the middle) as on the SA TOD.
I can find some screen caps somewhere...

Here's a picture of what you're talking about (I believe).
The collar stand continues out to form the top of the storm flap. This will be covered in the jacket specs.

Yes! That is it!
Thanks... that little detail is one of my biggest complaints of the Wings jackets.

oh yes that. Its explained on the spec sheet we will send of to wings ;-)

Be sure to send them plenty of TOD pix! there is a good one of Indy with Willie leaning on his shoulder that shows the flap/collar arrangement pretty well.

One quick question, Indy's sleeves are extremely wrinkled in this jacket, will the USW version have a slightly longer sleeve? Like 1/2 inch to make a worn one look SA?
Posted: Fri Sep 26, 2008 8:26 pm
by Holt
I dont know how long US Wings sleeves are.
but I know on our project will the sleeves on a large 44 be at 2.5''

Tons of them. We've tried to really illustrate every design point we've covered.

I'm guessing you mean 25"
On a USWings Medium, which is probably close to a 44" on it's upper end fit range, the sleeve length is 26"

no.I meant 25.5''

What's the news with this one? Has your prototype been recieved yet?

They have gotten everything and the whole package is now with their production department. The Sgt. warned me that right now is their busiest time of year so it might be a little while before they have their prototype ready to go. I hope it's not too long though. I'm really eager to see the fruit of Holt's and my work.

Nothing yet. Don't worry, I'll be so eager to relay any news that as soon as we hear something, I'll hurt myself getting to a computer to get the news out.

He, he, he, I was thinking of asking the status myself. I now really want a USW lambskin jacket.

Just as an update: I just got an email from the general manager of Wings. He said that the production department are working out a few of the details and will be contacting Sgt. Hack on Monday to put a few final things together.
Hopefully, it won't be long now.

I'm really curious to see this jacket. Igot my hands on an Indy wings goat and it is one tuff jacket. When I first started out I bought an Indy wings goat large and it was huge, but when I got the medium it seemed like it was tailored fit for me. I really like the jacket and have worn it everyday, except, when I had the sleeves taken it, they seemed good at first but after a while I just couldn't ge tha baggy look out of my head, so I took it to the tailor and he took some of the baggyness out and I really like it now.

You and me both. ;-) I've had a couple of Wings and I'm just lucky I guess because they're XXL fits like it was tailored for me. My CE is what I used to gauge my measurements for my Indy IV.

Nothing since what I posted last. I'm trying to walk that line of keeping in contact and getting info and not pestering everyone to death and souring things.
It's such a tightrope.

the SGT. needs to know that if he can get this jacket made to the correct TOD specs, that he is going to sell a TON of these!
It seens that people just prefer getting their replicas from the original makers... I know I do.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. Really though, Holt put a ton of effort into the specs. The project wouldn't have gone anywhere without him.

lol sorry Crismans- I just saw that Holt posted it and had a brain lapse when addressing the question... Have YOU OR Holt have any idea when they might go into production?

Just wondering. Does Wings have anything left from Cooper about the original ToD jacket?
Posted: Sun Nov 30, 2008 10:40 pm

I'm really just joking. I bumbled into this mess but Holt really got the ball rolling.
I emailed the general manager of Wings a couple of weeks ago and he said then that they were still working out a couple of the details. I'm probably going to email him again Tuesday or Wednesday.
Again, I want to keep this on the radar but I don't want to get into the realm of "pushy" so I tried to be laid back about it. The Sarge told me when I sent in the prototype that it was their busiest season so there might be a wait.

Just got off the phone with Wings and was told that the production department had completed the new prototype and mailed it back to them and they would probably get it tomorrow. So we're much closer now.
