My wife and co-workers all insist on calling my MKVII my man purse, I always correct them and say "No, it's a satchel." Any one who has problems with you carrying a carry all, that makes it THEIR problem, not yours.

Yep. And manly men used to wear wigs, make-up and puffy shirts. Come on guys, unless you're a messenger dodging traffic in NYC or a student walking bare foot across some college campus . . . it's a man-purse. Those named Indiana are exempt too.

Well, I figure that if I just saw a guy in a kilt with his face painted like William Wallace just walking to class nonchalantly today, and another with short shorts and black army boots, I can wear a MKVII and be perfectly secure in my choice.

Maybe it is just because I'm on a college campus, but people don't seem to care what you wear as long as it isn't offensive these days.

I see kilts quite often in my neck of the woods.

It's not a kilt it's a man-skirt. haha.

Putting aside all the gender issues that some people have with a guy carrying a "man purse"..........

....the fact is that it just makes sense.

Maybe some guys like to have their pockets bulging and lots of stuff strapped onto their belts. But, when I got the Coach bag (below) for my birthday.....I'll tell ya, it just makes sense.

On any given day, I'm carrying a wallet, keys, an iPhone, a pen and -- if depending on what I'm going to be doing while I'm out -- I might also want to carry along a digital camera or a book. Maybe a magazine.

It's simple and it works.

So, call it a satchel, messenger bag, or a "man purse". If someone has an issue about me doing something that makes my life more convenient, that says more about them than me.

How awesome would it be if everyone would just stfu and let dudes carry satchels without calling them "man-purses"? I don't mind the wallet in the back pocket so much, but the keys and the cell phones in the front pockets just looks stupid and feels uncomfortable. There's so much @#$% you have to carry around, it'd be easier to have a bag to put it in.

That is one thing I favour about wearing a suit or sport jacket to work. I have many more pockets to work with so I can spread the bulk around.

I think it's the ladies' fault that we abhor the thought of the 'man-purse'. I mean how many times have we seen a lady digging through her purse looking for something. This is especially annoying in a long queue.

Well, they just need to get more organized so that it doesn't take 5 min to get their wallet out of their purse.

Sorry people, but when you get into your 40s or 50s, all you can do is look at someone mocking you for carrying a fine leather bag and think they are stupid or something.

It's not as if I am going to curse or sarcastically rip on them like we were in high school, but you get to a certain point where the only person whose satisfaction is important is your own, and when you have a super-stressful job, kids, a mortgage, a PITAW, etc. the least you can do is reward yourself with a nice bag like that Coach above.

Sure, I could have gotten a nylon Eddie Bauer for 20 bucks, but went with a fine leather $214.90 man's bag from Tony Perotti, and it has gotten lots of appreciating looks from many people who have seen it. Bottom line, if it does what you need, it, and you think its attractive - what else is there?

I've said it before, I'll say it again. Have you noticed what the kids are wearing these days?

Goth kids with their eyeliner, green hair, and piercings in places I try to keep sharp objects away from.

Wannabe Rappers with their pants around their knees, prison tats, and mouths full of shiny jewels.

The surfer kids....who dress like surfers even if they live in Omaha.

If you want to wear a fedora and a bag....I don't think you'll stand out that much really. If they don't like it, "sc%w em."

You're spot on with that jeremy, but not this kid. You don't even have to wear Indy gear to think "fashion" nowadays is getting ridiculous. Me, I just stick with my trusty jeans and t-shirt. Don't know why everyone is trying to attract so much attention with what they wear. I'm not saying not to wear Indy gear. Those of you who wear it in public aren't looking for attention like most people. You just want to wear what you want to wear and don't care what other people think. Now that I can admire.

Yeah Argo, I'll be the first to admit I don't sport all my gear around. I wear my jacket and my Aldens, that's about it. Other than that it's my trusty Red Sox cap, polo, and jeans.

I wear the MK VII more frequently than any other piece of gear. I couldn't give a rats arse about any 'man-purse' stigma! Anyone who thinks something as trivial as a shoulder bag determines someones sexuality IS an ignorant f###ing redneck! No exceptions! :evil:

here here...or should that be hear hear?? lol in any case agreed. My bag goes everywhere with me (even to work everyday)! My finance and mates give me heaps about it but its all in good fun, and it really is convenient to carry to keep stuff in...just gotta empty everything out to find my keys

I was just giving you a hard time, I've been accused of "pigeon holing" groups of people on here before. So I figured that was a good time to give some back. lol.

The bag is a utility....if you NEED it wear it.....if you don't then leave it at home.

Ancient thread but questions of masculinity seem a perennial issue.

For the few comments I've gotten, simply saying, "This is a World War II Mark VII gas mask bag" shuts people up instantly and leaves them in a certain degree of awe. Ain't nothing more manly than that, and I take mine everywhere unless I have to carry my laptop...
