I'd take that bet... ;)

It's from Raider's. The full picture was from the previous page in this thread, which shows that it is of the "Throw me the idol" chasm jump scene.
I didn't mean that pic, I was talking about the one below, with Spielberg.
Maybe I wasn't clear.
Yeah, the B&W is Raiders for sure, and the jacket seems longer to me, too.

Who said raiders jacket was long?
Yep, I took that screen grab a while ago, and even posted it earlier in this thread... ;)

But assuming that Platon is being sarcastic (since I have trouble reading irony online ;) ), he and I do both agree that perhaps at least one of the Raiders' jackets was longer than any other of the jackets in the series (yes, including the Crystal jacket!). Just look at that picture, and

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t167 ... 8c9b31.jpg

I mean, slouch or not, collar hugging or not, the jacket is still clearly a VERY long jacket (read: normal length for today's world), with the bottom aligned with the bottoms of his sleeves. :P Even if the jacket was not close to Ford's neck, if he pulled his jacket forward, the front would dip even lower, making it longer. And if he was slouching, the jacket would fall, still making it longer.

Even if there was a factor that made it shorter somehow that is unaccounted for, I still believe that the height would be too unsubstantial to make that much of a difference. We have a standing still shot, and a walking shot, not to forget the entire thing captured on our own DVDs! If the jacket looks that long, it's probably because it is, and I'd have a hard time believing that somehow the length would be reduced by 5 to 7 inches just because maybe the flap was a little off center! ;)

Maybe I'm wrong, but IMO the tip of the pocket flap should reach the top of the trousers.

Do you guys understand the concept of two demensions? The first shot is looking down on HF. The second is looking up. Grab a camera and have someone take some pictures of yourselfs from different angles (looking down and up at you). You're both going to be surprised at what you find. Bye

PS- I'm not saying that the Raiders jacket doesn't fall below the belt line, I'm just saying that you need to be able to interpret what you're looking at with more discretion.

PPS- Don't come back until after you've performed the experiment. =;

Perhaps, but the shot of Ford of Ford walking in the temple is a straightforward shot. And once again, watch the DVD for straight on shots in the temple scene...

I'm stealing a screengrab from Indiana Holt, who used it to describe Indy's multiple Jackets.

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g182/ ... ket1-1.jpg

Though I already mentioned this in the above thread, I thought it would also be significant to the discussion in this thread as well.

Note that for the jacket hanging on the peg, look at where the sleeves fall in relation to the rest of the jacket. The Indy jackets that people usually buy these days have the sleeves falling 2 to 3+ inches below the bottom of the jacket. But on the jacket on the peg in that screenshot, the bottom of the jacket is on par, if not longer than the sleeves... Which does give creedence to the belief that perhaps the Raiders jacket was much longer than most people would like to think! Consider that for the Indy jacket in 'Long' sizes, the sleeves also have a similar relation with the bottom of the jacket as in that screenshot.

I realize that that jacket may not be used in any other scene, but it would be my belief that if they did make several of those jackets, chances are that they'd have similar, if not exact measurements as far as build goes... So chances are, the other jackets in Raiders would also reflect this sleeve-jacket bottom ratio. ;)

This is EXACTLY how I want my jacket to fit! I'm 6'3, 190 pounds. I thought I was set on a Wested, for the custom size ability, then I pondered a Wings because they're in the states and have the vintage cow, and I can get a Long...still can't decide

Is it just me, or does that collar look smegging awful?

Also, the reason why the jacket often slips down on the right side of his body is because of the bag. Hasn't anyone else experienced this?

On a side note, I think one of the reasons he wore the bag under the jacket is because in hot conditions, if the bag is sitting back around on his arse, the bag strap stops the leather from making contact with his back. I've found this is an effective way to make the jacket a bit cooler when worn in the hot sun!

Just a thought.

In my eyes it is..to me it looks like it a leather jacket.it has the style of a wested.the lseeves looks spot on to a wested.you can also see the arm seam.the flaps are stiking some what out too.and it has the authentic brown color in a different lighting.

so how do you know its not a leather jacket?I think we see things different.and I am glad we people do,what would the world become if we agreed on everything:wink:

It looks like a gray tweed jacket with buttons on the sleeves to me.

Besides that, from a director's point of view it would not make any sense to show his adventure jacket hanging in the hallway one minute before he's taking another one out of the closet.

I'm sorry Holt, but I think you're barking up the wrong tree here.

For those guys arguing dimensions from the first publicity still, take a look at this, and tell me that the Raiders jacket is waist length... ;)

It looks to me as long as (if not longer than) the KotCS jacket.

I was looking at these screenshots, and I'm thinking that, after all, the raiders jacket was not so distressed. What do you think? :-k

That's just because it's a darker hide, so the distressing in those in-door scenes won't show as well.
