I could be mistaken, but I think Peter only made ten.

hi peter,

you may not be set up with a photobucket or fotki? account. if you have a digital picture of this hide, you can probably e-mail it to someone who does....kt templar, platon. if you wish for me to assist in this, please pm me and i will provide you my e-mail. i can then get the image posted for you.

I think you'll really like it! I believe it to be softer than authentic lamb, and now you've entered the exclusive 'club' of 10 ;)

I know, now I'm counting minutes. Of all the leathers, that "drity sand-covered" look i liked the best.
I am a tiny bit worried about the lenght of it, because they only asked for a chest measurement not R or L. Kt Templar's looks like a regular and yours (castor) looks like a long, so....we'll see.

Though wested.com states they made 12 of them...? mysterious.

by Castor Dioscuri
Well, I believe KT Templar has a 38R, and I myself specifically asked for a 40L, as I was going by the sizing chart posted on Wested. In the end though, the jacket turned out to be about 2 inches longer than what was written on Wested's chart.

So if you're worried about the length, just add 2 inches to the 'back length' of whichever chest size on Wested's chart to get your answer.

12 of them? Hmm, I wonder if my 40L was made after the first batch, as come to think of it, they did take over month to ship it, despite having the first batch produced already (?) ;)

by mufflowne
Took over a month to ship it? Bummer! (I wish I didn't have to wait that long)
I guess I might call them on Monday to ask, because on their website they don't offer L or R. I'd totally get regular length though.

Hey Castor, I called Wested this morning and was told that the jackets only come in regular sizes. Yours looks definitely long though...

Mufflowne, I've sent you a private message. Trying not to get this thread shut down ;)

By the way, even though my jacket is a ROLA Authentic, I'm guessing it was made seperately from the batch of 10 since all the others are regulars and mine is a long.

So for the anybody else who has a ROLA authentic, are the pockets on yours smaller than the standard Wested? Or are they the same? Mine seem to be the same size, though I thought that the pockets were supposed to be smaller... if that makes any sense...

Mine are the same size as an LC jacket.

PETER wrote:The next batch will probably made in lambskin or a new hide I am playing with. I also have a new veg tanned pre washed lambskin which is getting rave revue but is more expensive and could make the jacket around the £190/£200 mark custom made. The others will be £125.
I also have some goatskin jackets to clear at £125 all new ex stock.
Cheers
Peter
Hi there. Any word on those goatskin jackets? I've put in an enquiry at Wested, waiting to hear back. I've been thinking about finally getting a light lambskin after having worn my wested horsehide for the past year and a half. It's great in winter, but forget it in spring and summer. Is Peter waiting to sell off his first batch before he starts on this new batch, including the goatskins?

I've been authorised by Peter to post this pic of the new veg tanned lamb, it's sitting against my 3 year old authentic brown.

This is a newly sourced leather, no other usage is implied. Peter can fill in the details.

Wow that's quite some difference in color.

Am I missing something though? Is peter saying this new veg tanned stuff is closer to the original color?

Im also not sure about the pre-distressed. I swear on all the mayan gods that my next jacket WILL distress naturally.

HERE it is!

Indoors it's much darker. It's just really bright here cause of the lighting and cheap camera, is all.

I'm very very happy with this jacket, it's an awesome jacket,
and it was a bargain, it ordered saturday and it arrived the following
thursday (all the way to california). The zipper is antique brass i think.
The pockets are nicely sculpted.
BUT, have a look at this. There's these silver markings by the side-entry
pocket. Only on the right side. Any suggestions on how to remove it
without messing up the jacket much? THX.
Image

And look haha, Peter got so sick of X-box and V-box requests that he just
did Box stitches haha. And D-Rings. I may've preferred a slider, but it's not
that important to me.

Overall, I'm very satisfied.

she looks like she has a good drape to her and it hangs off you very nicely. those silver markings look like tailoring chalk for leather....perhaps it was to indicate where the pocket was going to be placed. i do not know how to remove it on leather but tailoring chalk is usually removed from fabrics/fur by steam.

thats funny that no reinforcement stitching is put in the box stitch....is wested that sick of our requests?

That jacket looks really impressive! Glad to hear that it's working out for ya, and the fit looks spot on! Well, I suppose the sleeves are a tad long, but I always thought that Indy's sleeves in the Chachpoyan (sp?) temple scene were rather long as well..

I wonder if this jacket is the same as the other ROLA Authentics? The leather looks alot more reddish than the others, and I thought the others have silver zippers and rectangular sliders?

Whatever the white markings on the jacket are, chalk or otherwise, you could always try rubbing it off with a (lightly) damp cloth. At least that's what I do whenever I get white Pecards stains on mine ;)

Yup, futures market on black rectangular sliders is "high".

I tried rubbing it with a wet cloth, it didn't come off all the way, it rubbed off more of the protective "shiny" covering rather than the silver stuff itself.

It's not chalk, it's silver. it looks a lot like a silver-metallic gelpen mark.

Anyone know where I can get hooked up with a pair of sliders?

It is pretty light for a raiders jacket, but it looks WAY lighter in the pics.

What are your opinions. Should I give it a good soak?

Does the leather darken some with age?
I hear Pecards darkens it quite a bit.

Ack! Sorry to hear about the jacket, but I guess at least you know what you're dealing with? If it really is stubborn, I suppose you could always write to Wested to ask them for advice, or possibly for an exchange since it did come like that already...

As for the Pecards, I hear that it darkens leather a little, but I'm not too sure if this refers to the lotion or the standard dressing or both? I used the lotion on my ROLA, and can honestly say that I didn't see any darkening. Yes, it darkened when you apply it directly, but after it dries up (in all of 20 seconds), it looked to me like the leather returned to its original color. But I suppose you'd get a better response from Gear Care and Distressing? ;)

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I was told by Bernardo del Carpio, the whip maker, that vegitable tanned leathers will darken with sun exposure....

If so, this jacket might get darker the more you wear (or hang) it in the sunlight!

I'm not sure that this jacket looks more 'authentic' than the previous versions. Is this really the Raiders authentic or just a development model? :?

I agree. It looks like a nice jacket, but it's not much closer to the movie jacket than the usual Wested. Pockets! Why did it have to be pockets!?

I hope you're right. It's pretty light for an indy jacket.

Hang that sucker out in the sun for a few days - Let's see what happens!

Also, I would have a good seamstress shorten those sleeves... The fit everywhere else looks great!

AFAIK the "Worn look lamb" is not veg tanned, it's a chrome tanned leather with some sort of finish sprayed on.

I just took a shower with my new Wested. We'll see how it turns out.

Right now, as it's wet, it looks like the authentic brown color. So I guess the dye is the same with some slight differences or something.
The color looks great right now.

I'll post pics when it's dry.
(I'm wearing it damp around the house)

Distressing a predistressed? This I gotta see! ;)

Posted: Tue Jul 03, 2007 9:13 pm
by mufflowne
Castor, I don't think it's predistressed to begin with, I think the hide was just tanned to make it look patchy...........right?

As of right now, it's been a good 3.5 hours. The jacket feels pretty dry, except for the sidepockets.

I've worn it a little right after wetting it. Then I actually put it in the dryer with a couple of damp towels as suggested, for about 10 minutes.
So far so good.
Then I hung it up on a plastic hanger and hung it up in the sun to dry.

Right now, the color has turned quite a bit darker. It looks freakin' great. But I'm not sure if it's dry yet, so I'll post pictures tomorrow. (despite the fact that I don't have time to take pics right now). Stay tuned.

Don't worry too much about using a hanger, scrunch it up. It gives nice wrinkles.

Posted: Wed Jul 04, 2007 9:43 am
by Michaelson
Let it dry first. If you wad it up before it's completely dry, it will dry nice and wrinkly, but the areas in the wrinkles will dry slower, and create weak areas in the hide that will eventually tear.

Doing what you're doing will insure it drys totally out, THEN wad it up for wrinkling effect.

I still don't understand why folks don't like to create these 'wear patterns' from just wearing the jacket in normal use....but to each his own.
