Just placed my order...UPDATE - GOT SHIRTS AND PANTS!!!!!!!!

Post by ob1al »

...for Wested's new Indy shirt and pants! :D

Can someone tell me the difference between 'finished' and 'unfinished'? I selcted unfinished on the pants as I assumed this meant a more 'straight fall' on the trouser leg? :-k

Have I got that right?

And for those of you who have already oredered these, how long is shipping on these items?

I believe finished means they are taylored to your inseam. Unfinished means you will have to have them hemmed by a seamstress when you get them.

Thanks Pyro, based on that info I've just updated my order to include my inside leg seam measurement. Cheers!

Also got a very nice email from the man himself, Peter - they will be with me in 2 weeks max. :D

My wife called me at work today to tell me they had arrived! :D

Ok - I realise this post has no photographs, but I'd love to take some and posat them here when I get the chance. But let me try to describe these items to you.

First of all the shirt. I placed an order for 2 of these, XL at Peter's advice, so I was really hoping they would fit me...and they do, they fit as if the man himself had personally tailored these shirts to my specs. For anybody who's a 42-44 chest, 17" or so collar size I recommend the XL - hope this helps someone out.

The shirt feels very well made indeed, very comfortable yet tough - like it could take a few adventures without loosing a sleeve.

The material is thick enough to keep the wind off, yet thin enough to keep you cool in South America, whilst searching for fabled treasures. Or in a supermarket with no air-con. :)

The features of the shirt are, well, a work of art - the pleats, the pockets, the eppulettes (spellcheck?) - all exactly as I had hoped. The colour too is, to my eyes, perfect.

Out of the bag, the shirt feels a little stiff and well-pressed - I immediately saw that it would look even better after a bit of wear and a wash or two.

All in all, I'd say that this shirt is a winner. Well done Peter!:D

Stay tuned for my review of the pants.

And the pants...

Again, I felt I had taken a slight gamble on these as I ordered a size larger than my usual waist size; I was aiming for the slightly baggy streets of Cairo look but I had a feeling that I might end up with a pair of pants which were just too big for me.

However, I am very happy to say that my gamble paid off - the trousers are not tight around the waist (which I deplore) nor yet are they too loose. Now, I can't recommend going a size up to everyone, as it has to be an inividual choice - for my part, I generally find dress-pants are a little more snugly cut than say, my Levi's - so I based my decision on this fact and it worked out well for me. It might not be the same for everyone.

The colour of the pants is darker than I expected - I have yet to see a picture here which aptly portrays the actual colour. The twill fabric feels great - 100& wool and 100% comfort.

Like the shirt, the pants feel very well made and tough - important factors for me - yet they could be equally at home on a field-trip or in the boardroom.

I ordered my pants hemmed, but they arrived unhemmed - no big deal, it's a two minute job for a local tailor - so I can't comment on the final drape or length of the hem.

The back pockets look great, right out of Raiders. The crease at the front of the pants could use a little ironing out to get that true 'adventurer' look.

For anyone still wondering, these pants are dry-clean only - they are 100% wool and will undoubtedly shrink in even a 40 degree washing machine.

All in all, I am delighted with my purchases and take my fedora off to Peter and all the team at Wested. They have delivered another quality product into the Indy market, at a fair price - now that deserves some hearty congratualtions, thanks and the odd rave review or two!

Cheers,

Al

Wool has always been itchy to me. How is the itchiness factor (don't worry, it's an IndyGear technical term) for the pants?

Well, I've been itchin' to get me a pair for some time, so I'd consider the itchy factor to be pretty high. Does that help? :P

great news man ! I am a 42 myself and got the large...they fit me perfect...just the right tightness and everything. In fact, once I threw it in the wash, and shrunk it a bit, I got the whole tight-o streets of Cairo look !

Peter did us right in the production of both these items. Kudos man !

Itchy woolen garments annoy the h@@l out of me too, but rest assured that cavalry twill is a distinctly unwooly wool.

It feels quite soft and comfortable - definitely non-itchy (so far anyway) :P !

If anyone is planning to order the pants unfinished, be sure to ask for blind hemming when you have them custom fit at your tailor or sewing shop. It's unlikely that a tailor would assume anything other than a blind hem (meaning the stitching doesn't show through to the 'good' side of the trouser leg) but just in case - you don't want to end up with a 'folded' cuff like a pair of chinos!

Hey ob1al. Does this mean I can't go swingin on vines into the crick with the pants? Maybe I'm a little confused, but does 100% wool shrink in any water?

100% wool shrinks in warm or hot water. Cold water is fine. The big trick especially is NOT to throw 100% wool items in the dryer, unless you want to make Barbie clothes. Best let them hang dry.

The Binkmeister is totally correct. Swing away, just not into a hot spring!
