A decent leather whip in terms of looks and performance costs a lot more. 500 USD and more for an 8 ft Indy bullwhip.
Nylon whips cost less, let's say from 200 USD. They perform as well as the leather ones, if made properly.
What is your budget?

Just to address the Magnoli vs Etsy whip topic:ducktailjiver wrote: ↑Sun May 25, 2025 1:12 am I Bought a Magnoli Clothiers premium whip..I can't say I'm that impressed...

On the outside they can look the same, but Magnoli's whip insides are leather, just like it's supposed to be. For the $45 etsy whip I highly doubt there are plaited inner bellies for the whip, so it would last a lot less. And the outside might be cowhide, not roohide.
There are a few makers out there making great whips: Del Carpio, Midwestwhips, Gio Celeste, Johnny Öhgren (witchcraft whips to name a few), but it also depends on your budget... Lately whips can cost up to €6-700 for a 10 footer. There are also nice reviews for CatchallCrafts on etsy.

You can also wait for a nice deal in the Cairo Bazaar.
Cheers,
Bear

Can you post pictures ? I'm especially interested in that Etsy whip for 45. This is a steal, especially since I plan to experiment something with a whip so it's not much of a waste if I ruin it.ducktailjiver wrote: ↑Sun May 25, 2025 1:12 am I Bought a Magnoli Clothiers premium whip..I can't say I'm that impressed...

I think you have to dig hard to find a "decent" whip on Etsy ...
I don't know ... Do you have advices for vendors guys ?

Just wanted to say, that is an AWESOME avatar pic!

And, yes, I think anything under $200 will not be decent. And at $200, only in paracord.
Cheers,

Our "standard" whip really is mostly for costuming, but you can get it to crack. The "deluxe" whip is a step up with extra layers so you can have some fun with casual cracking. But yeah, you can't really compare these to high-end professionally hand-made kangaroo whips. For those still wanting something better, but within a lower price range, we now offer a $250 kangaroo whip: https://www.magnoliclothiers.com/kangar ... -1229.html

saying that Magnoli's premium whip is no better than a $45 etsy whip with out details or photos is just in poor form. Right now you are just saying that Magnoli's whip is worthless and you have not provided in proof. Magnoli is a professional and highly respected on COW and the RPF. i think you need to put up or shut up

I’m sorry to be that guy, but I’ve cracked both their premium and standard whips and they were pretty subpar from my experience (I haven’t tried their Kangaroo). Aesthetically they’re nice, but their weight distribution is pretty off. I’ve loved all other products I’ve received from Magnoli though. Based on my talks with a reputable whip maker he thinks that Magnoli gets their whips from some of the other same manufacturers that you’ll find distributing through Etsy and eBay. But if Magnoli mentions a different source then I’d believe him.

George I presume you contacted Indy Magnoli for his response before posting this?
If not, it's bad form.
Indy is a top man and does whatever he can to rectify or comment on problems that can easily occur when producing large orders. Like others here I have also acquired a lot of Magnoli items and have only had a single issue that was addressed immediately.

With only 6 posts to his name across a couple of years, George might have legit not even realised IM posts here.Mark Raats wrote: ↑Tue May 27, 2025 9:57 pm George I presume you contacted Indy Magnoli for his response before posting this?
The other side of that coin
