Wested Legacy measurements

Post by redoschi »

Hi everyone,

I've been lurking around for a while but had never posted.

In the past I had used an old Levi's leather jacket with a Disney World fedora (that doesn't even fit me anymore as I got it when I was 14, about 25 years ago!) as an "Indy" costume for Halloween.

Now, reaching 40, I've decided to finally assemble an actual Indy outfit for myself, including a jacket that would be great for everyday wear as well. I almost ordered it all together from Wested, but decided to research some more and from what I've read here and on Reddit, this was a good decision as people definitely don't seem to recommend their cotton felt fedora or their bullwhip (if anyone has those, please give me your honest opinion of them).

Right now I'm thinking of buying the following (probably jacket and bag first and soon the other items):
- Wested Legacy jacket, either Raider's or Last Crusade
- Wested bag, either their MK VII or their leather adventure bag (which isn't screen accurate but appears to look great for an everyday bag)
- Advintage Rabbit felt Harrison in True Sable
- Magnoli Clothiers Deluxe Tan Bullwhip

By the way, I'm in Canada, so if anyone here knows how much I might have to pay for customs on the above items, that would be really helpful.

Now for the main reason of the post, my decision around the jacket.

I'm 6'0" and I'm currently 220 lbs (hoping to lose some weight)

Chest - about 46" to 46.5"
Waist - 43"
Shoulder - about 6.5 to 7"
Sleeve - about 25" to my wrist and 27" to the beginning of my thumb (which seems to be a suggested length)
Back - I believe it would be about 25.5 or 26" to the top of my back pockets

My first thought was to get a Raiders Legacy (my idea on choosing their Legacy line is their Brown Lambskin with great undertones) but I became worried of how it would fit me both now and if I manage to lose some of my overweight.
Reading about the Last Crusade got me thinking that it could work better, especially if I added the gussets.

I'm also going back and forth between ordering a 46" or a 48", as I'm concerned on the fit over time if I lose some weight (I believe the 48 might be too big then while the 46 might be a snug fit now but could continue working better).

Any suggestions around sizing, the model or anything else around this whole plan?

Thanks!
- Redoschi

Hello!

I wouldn’t do the Legacy raiders because it’s cut to exacting for Harrison Ford even with your measurements it sits weird. I did it and it’s my least worn jacket just doesn’t sit right. If you are going screen accurate then sure but I wouldn’t do it just for the leather or if you want it as a casual wear too. You can actually get a custom raiders(not the Hero version) and have them do it in the legacy lamb for an upcharge I think if you just want that leather.

Secondly, personally I liked the Legacy LC more. It fit me well with the right measurements. It’s more generous in the armhole and the fit was closer to normal for me. The color on it is great especially with weathering. It is a pretty light jacket which is nice for warmer days.

I’ll also say the Destiny jacket is pretty sweet too and slightly thicker than the Legacy line. I don’t have a ToD but many people love that one too.

I’d say pick true to size on whatever you choose, I have so far I measured my chest and went with that so if you measure and you are a 48 then get 48. They do make them with a little room expecting you to have more than a t-shirt on. None of mine have felt too loose to me.

Thanks for the response @Shadowtek!

From what I have been reading that Raiders Legacy definitely doesn't seem to be the way for me.

I was worried about the sizing as I'm more of 46", but sometimes the measurement comes out as 46.5", so I was thinking that going with that true to size on 46" would be better overall than to size up to 48", especially for the Last Crusade jacket which seems to be more roomy.

I'll take a look at their Destiny jacket as well.

Also, what is your take between all cotton or cotton body with satin sleeves? I was going with their standard, but read that all cotton could be more comfortable for some.

You should be ok with a 46 then especially on LC as usually they give a couple inches of room still. 48 might be too big.

I went with cotton and satin sleeves. I have one that is all cotton and honestly if I wear it with a short sleeve for me it tends to grab me the slightest bit especially if I’ve been doing anything where I might have the slightest glisten of sweat. It feels room temp when you put your arms in. The satin feels cool to the touch and slides in easy. Yes, the satin doesn’t breathe as much but I’m used to it on almost all my jackets and it’s never a thought on if it’s going to “catch” something. There’s a lot of posts and debates on it if you look around. Personally as long as it’s a cotton body that was good enough for me and I’ve stuck with the satin sleeves for the most part. Neither are bad just comes down to preference I think too. :TOH:

Great, that’s what I’ll do then.

And I’ll go with the standard option of cotton/satin. Thanks for the description of how you feel with both options!
