I wonder why Mr Morgan change the plaiting pattern past the handle. He knew how long was the spike, so why change the pattern and put the knot of the flexible part of the whip. Was it really a mistake? It looks kinda sloppy. To be honest if I received such whip I'd really return it.

I read somewhere that he used to put the knot after the spike. I don't like the idea much, either. I like it when the spike protrudes ~ 10 mm, past the transition. But David Morgan was the master, I would not argue with him. He gave us something spectacular.

I always sniff my whips, the smell of roohide is amazing. I also enjoy the smell of cowhide gear.

I saw this video a when it was released a few days ago and was blown away- it was so cool to see vintage Morgan Bullwhips, especially if those are really the oldest out there. It's interesting to see that two of the whips were kiphide, that makes me lean more towards the idea that some of the whips in Raiders really were kip and not roohide.

Putting the transition knot off the end of the spike does seem a bit odd. I guess that's one of the reasons why David Morgan kept revising his designs and you can't get a Raiders accurate whip from his company these days. My understanding is that he kept the length of the spike in the handle the same, just changed the knot placement, and that's why the handle in Raiders looks longer compared to in Last Crusade, but I could be wrong on that...

Anyway, this is a super cool video. It's great to see early examples of David Morgan's whips. Adam Winrich has some awesome whips in his collection!

I had heard the fact that the Raiders whip were cowhide before, I think it's written on the Indygear bullwhip section. Cowhide whips can be amazing for sure, it's just making them that is a challenge.

Cowhide breaks more easily, it's stretchy and the strands deform slightly. Kangaroo is a pleasure to work with in comparison.

Yeah, Adam's collection is amazing, he has some beautiful whips.

That is really great, I am glad! Happens to me sometimes, I see a post, watch a nice video and get motivated for a lost hobby.

I'd love to see some new whips coming out of your hands! Looking forward to it!

Whipmaking has always been a costly hobby, for me at least. Being in the EU the roo hide is really hard to find locally. Found two German online stores some years ago that have full skins and ordered there, but what they bring now is not great anymore.

And when importing from outside the EU, well the taxes here are 25-35%.
