New Wested LC in goatskin

Post by Dr. Jonesy »

Hello everyone,
I have recently received a Standard Wested LC jacket in goatskin as a gift.
It’s a medium-weight, sturdy jacket, with a good fit (size 42). Depending on the light, the color varies from medium brown (with a grey hue), to very dark brown, almost black.

My only issue is that the leather on the left front panel is softer, slightly heavier, and more creased (looks more “broken-in”) than the leather on the right front panel. I understand that leather jackets don’t always have a uniform look but sometimes I feel like I’m wearing two different jackets. I was thinking of contacting Wested about this, but I guess they’ll tell me this is normal(?). ](*,)

Overall, the jacket is good, I’m happy with it, except for the inconsistency with the front panels.

Embrace it! Looks cool. Gets alot of character and once the rest of the jacket breaks in you'll never notice.

I agree with Holt… looks excellent now and will just blend more with age. I promise you will wish you could find this jacket again in the future if you get rid of it. To me it just emphasizes that this isn’t “pleather” but an excellent, authentic jacket.

Thank you, Tibor! I appreciate your feedback (and Holt’s).
The jacket is good and comfortable, I’m not planning on selling it.

I’m a lifelong Last Crusade fan, so I’ll soon pull the trigger on a screen-accurate LC jacket. :D

Congrats on your new jacket!
I also think that this is rather normal, 2 of my Westeds also have that. The more you wear it the less it will be apparent, especially when the smoother side starts to wrinkle etc.

Congratulations on a beautiful jacket! The leather looks really nice, and from what I can tell from the pictures, you got a great fit as well. The more pictures I see of Westeds around here, the more I think I need to get one. One of these days... one of these days... But anyways, congratulations on a great jacket! You have chosen wisely :TOH:

I would have returned it if it weren’t for all the helpful comments (including yours). :TOH:

Thanks a lot, WNY Indy!

I think Wested’s OTR jackets (or at least the LC) are not SA; however, if you get the size right, they are good everyday jackets. I’ve been wearing mine in the field ( :dig: ) and it’s quite comfortable.

Yup, to my understanding, the OTR jackets are made from patterns modified from the "Hero" patterns in order to fit the average person better. As you said, they are made to be good everyday jackets. But regardless, what you have there is an absolutely beautiful jacket and 90% of people will probably just see it as an Indy jacket despite not being perfectly SA. It certainly still screams "LC Jacket" in the best possible way. Hope it goes with you on many adventures to come :TOH:
