Anyone have a recent Kelso Relic Hunter in lamb?

Post by NorthernRaider »

Hey everyone,
I’ve been considering getting Kelso Relic Hunter in lamb as my next jacket. Anyone have one made recently who could give a review? (And some pics would be great too if possible ;) )

For those who have/had multiple makers- How is the construction quality/fit/color vis-a-vis Wested Legacy or Steele & Jones Cazadora ‘36?

Fortune & Glory,

I recently got a Kelso Relic "Hawaii" in shrunken lambskin and since I have the S&J I can compare fairly well..

I'd say I love the S&J for the "Indy"-ness straight out of the box, the skin is amazing, and the construction is solid, although over time I've had the lining begin to disintegrate a little? Might just be the way I use the jacket, but the rayon lining seems to thin and the stitches have popped on a section on the sleeve and at the underarm...Diego has very kindly said they'd do all repairs needed for no cost, so that's not at all an "issue", just how the jacket has aged...I've had it for 5 or so now....And it's still my favourite jacket to use and I do so as often as I can..

Now, the Kelso...Leather wise, the skin is absolutely the best I've seen...Ribbed and striated in the right areas, Kelso has obviously made a thing about knowing exactly what panels go best on which area in the jacket to match the look on screen, and it's superb. The hand is soft, light and very very comfortable to wear and hold...The stitching is strong and the thread used is more than solid enough to hold the jacket up under a car, for instance..It's exceptional..It's gone straight in at number two for me, simply because I DO like the worn in, broken look of the S&J just a touch more, and the Kelso is new, so looks it, but I've seen weathered Kelso do the same thing, so it'll get there in time...Just, needs "work"....

I'd say if you want "broken in" from the start, use S&J, and if you want a jacket to do that yourself and/or a clean start, use Kelso, they're both the best in the game and way ahead of what I expected....I love them both.

I still can't add pics on here with Tapatalk, and am using the work PC now so don't have any pics on here to use to show, but find me on Instagram and I can send a load! fifthchamber36 on there and I'll send a load of comparison pics too!

Hey everyone!

This is my first post.

Thank you, FifthChamber, for the comparison. I’m thinking about getting an Indy jacket (I’m undecided between S&J and Kelso), and your information was very helpful.

I’m considering a S&J jacket, but the comment about the lining and stitches got me thinking. :-k

Anyway, based on their excellent reputation, S&J is currently the frontrunner! ;)

I'm a big guy, and don't treat my jackets with any extra care especially, so that's a part of it perhaps? The S&J is five years old, and natural wear and tear DO come into it as well..Diego, as I mentioned, did also offer to entirely repair the lining, but it's still a thing to be aware of! The right pocket entrance point too, the thread there broke and the pocket was repaired by me with thread, which I don't mind, makes it feel more Indy-like for sure, but again, bear it in mind...Kelso, so far? Has impressed me more with the construction, but in a fire? I'd STILL grab my S&J first...And the Penman Crusade hat.....So, that should also be noted...... :TOH:

Fifthchamber, thanks for the feedback, much appreciated!
S&J is the obvious choice, especially their LC jacket.

(The Penman Crusade hat is awesome) :)
