Steele and Jones leathers and prices?

Post by Castor Dioscuri »

So I'm considering ordering a S&J jacket after seeing so many rave reviews over the years, but I'm curious- does anyone know if the prices on their website are up to date? And especially with their take on the CS and DoD jackets, was S&J able to source the same leather types from the same manufacturers as used by those films?

Hopefully posting those questions here helps out other gearheads that are wondering the same too! ;)

I can't speak for their prices, but a quick inquiry to Diego, he'll respond.
That is if he doesn't to this one.

The DoD jacket leather, when they first offered it, they had a batch of leather that was very, very close.
It's like no leather I've ever owned, and I have three from S&J, and one is the DoD, sleeve repair and all.
It's stiffer than my other lamb jacket.

If you go to this link (if you haven't already) viewtopic.php?t=73789 you'll see mine right of the box, some geared pictures and then some more after I tweaked it some, to mute the scratches and blend them some.
Can't help myself.

But S&J have awesome C/S and the work they put into their jackets are second to none.

Prices are up to date. If you plan to order from them, the sooner the better since they have a long wait time. Also, not sure about their DOD leather since they’ve gone through a few types. As for their CS, it’s okay, but not the same color or texture as what Nowak used in the film.

Croft, thank you for that overview, and I completely blame you for those pictures of your jacket! It's just such a thing of beauty, it's pushed me over the edge to get another Indy jacket after over a decade's worth of Indy jacket abstinence! ;)

IIJTM, thank you! I didn't realize they changed their leather offerings, so I'll definitely be sure to reach out to Diego to find out what they currently have. A pity about the CS jacket though, the leather really made that jacket...

Your welcome, so many times this exact same thing has happened to me.
The DoD jacket suits me best, old Indy and a 65 year old Croft, kinda go hand in hand.
Still wear my others, but the DoD is my go to.

Diego is a craftsman and the wait is worth it, does all the destressing prior to putting all together.
I just have a habit of adding my own on top of what he does.
Love his work.

My advice to you when thinking about ordering from S&J is "Just do it". I got one myself this year and going with Steele and Jones jacket was the best decision I made. Before that I was thinking about Wested with their legacy jackets, but when you are buying Indy jacket you are buying this jacket to be worn for years so I decided to go with Steele and Jones. My customer experience with them was above average and they reply to your emails as fast as they can. Plus their attention to details is amazing. The jacket you get from S&J will look like it's been pulled straight out from the movie and it also drapes on your body like movie jackets does on Harrison Ford. They also offer you to choose if you want jacket to be distressed or partly distressed. The only thing is that you will wait a while for your jacket. I waited around 9 months for mine, but it was worth the wait.

Thank you guys for this kind reviews.

Here is some info:

LEATHERS

"Chocolate Lambskin" (different accurate options according to each movie) = US$ 650.- (shipping and distressing -optional- INCLUDED)

"Chocolate Thin Horsehide" = US$ 490.- (shipping and distressing -optional- INCLUDED)

"Chocolate Cowhide" = US$ 390.- (shipping and distressing -optional- INCLUDED)

NOTE: we offer Cowhide skin in 2 thickness
THIN version (0.9 mm thick) = it makes a thin and very lightweight jacket, similar to some Lambskin jackets. (this description works for THIN HORSEHIDE too)

Hi,

Size setting occurs like 1 month prior to estimated completion date.

WAITING:
Current ESTIMATED completion date schedule:
SIZE SETTING = September 14, 2025 (approximately)
JACKET COMPLETION = October 14, 2025 (approximately)

Always COWHIDE and HORSEHIDE are more durable.
For cold weather only THICK COWHIDE
The rest of the skins works for all seasons.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

That's fantastic information, thank you Indiego! Something I am curious about that I don't believe has been asked- Do you and/or Roberto personally make each jacket? Or do you outsource the work to a tailor (e.g. in India, China etc), like what Indy Magnoli does?

Hi,
Every item is done by us.
No outsource.
That's why it takes so much time.

Very heavily considering S&J now for my first Indy Jacket. They sound very dedicated to their craft. Nothing against other makers, but everything I’m reading lately is pointing me towards S&J. Email has been sent to them and I look forward to starting the process. Thanks to everyone
