Post by joeyofarimathea »

I just did a quick search on here and couldn't find the details on the LC Neck Tie? Can someone please point me to the details on the Tie they used for the film? Any help as always is appreciated....

Thanks

There's a brief mention of it on the Shirt page. It's a black Irish poplin tie. I still have mine that Noel Howard used to sell.

Thanks for the replies.....however is this the actual confirmed info on the Tie used in the film or just agreed upon as "close enough"?

Jeff...Did the filmmakers actually use that Atkinsons version?

Thanks for any info...

I have no idea if an Atkinsons tie was used. It is a royal Irish poplin with the correct dimensions so I got it.

Noel sold it as "the tie" they supplied for the film.

Mine is the same as Jeff's.

What are those dimensions?

And for sake of triviality, how did young Dr. Jones knot his tie?

My tie is 3” at its widest point.

Many discussions about the knot over the years. Half-Windsor or four-in-hand are the general consensus. Given the relative thickness of the material I use a four-in-hand when I wear mine.

I'll probably do a Half Windsor myself. That's my knot of choice.

Full Winds look hUgE and Four in Hands look starved.

Well remember, for the most part your type of shirt collar determines the knot you should use...

Knot size depends on the tie's width and thickness, so if the tie isn't too narrow it will look good with 4 in hand knot.

Agreed. A full Windsor is my knot of choice and can be tied tightly enough to not be huge. Same with four in hand, it can be tied so as to not disappear.

Yeah, I was just funnin'

I use a Windsor sometimes. And even above and beyond the thickness of the material, where on the tie the knot starts and how tightly you tie that base knot makes a HUGE difference. A full windsor is definitely more symmetrical when tied correctly.

Amen. Full Windsor fan here. The only time I deviate is when trying to mimic a specific look (ie Bond, Doctor Who, etc) or wearing certain thick ties (such as grenadine/knit ties). :TOH:

Yeah, same here...Windsor or half Windsor, since I love the balance of it, and the width tends to work best with my wider frame..Four in hand doesn't have the weight I need to balance that, although I'll use it on certain ties that have more width...Since most of my collars are cut the same for me, I tend to stick to that, but it all needs to be adapted depending on the suit and me and the tie....

Four in hand today with a black silk knit....

I (seemingly) have a long trunk. So I can't use up the extra length on a Full Windsor, the end wouldn't even come close to where it's supposed to end up.

Frankly I barely make it with the half.

I picked up a "close enough" grosgrain tie last year from thetiebar.com. It's made of silk and the traditional size almost matches the dimensions of Magnoli's officer tie (I just found out Magnoli's offering has been discontinued), it's just a 1/2" longer. Still, not bad for the price and better quality than what Amazon sellers offer.

That's a good close enough option. Good find, thanks for sharing.

That looks really good. Let us know how shiny it is once you get it in your hands.
