Here is a quick shot in the yard of the new trousers! These just have the hemmed turned in and not their final length! :whip:

Received my pants today, and they look awesome.
The texture is different from my Todd’s, but thats a good thing.
Haven’t tried on yet, maybe Saturday or Sunday, were in for some cold weather.

But so far, they are spot on.

Another’s hit from Karolian Dry Goods.
Off to the seamstress.

Croft! So glad they arrived safe to ya. I think the blend helps the feel a bit. I didn't notice any wooly feel, but I'm not too sensitive to it, well, not as much as others I should say.

Cant wait to see some pics! Stay warm!

Well like a true fan (or nut case) I braved a few minutes outside in close 13deg. temperature to snap off couple shots, then headed inside for a few more.
Washed in cold water and hung to dry, when dry I was expecting wrinkles, but nope, zip. \:D/
When I first got a pair from Wested, then years later my Todds, these wool versions did give me some itch from time to time, very manageable.
The Karolian Wool blend 70 % wool 30% polyester was very comfortable, and the drape is amazingly like my Todds.
Felt very comfortable wearing, now these have yet to be sent to the seamstress, but soon, then hopefully the weather will be a little nicer. [-o< [-o<
And the fit is the same as past versions, 34 wasn't tight, but snug, a 34.5 would have been perfect.

These were some close ups of the back panel showing the similarly of material and the pocket flap.

Thanks guys, these are very comfortable.
And ya the color is almost dead on with the Todd’s.
I also like how they can be washed in cold water, no dry cleaning like Todd’s and Wested.

Great pics, Croft!

Thanks for the comparison pics! It's always helpful for folks and I only have a set of Todd's to compare!

I am hoping these become kind of the spiritual successor to the Todd's.

It means a lot to me to be seeing such positive feedback on these. I can't express how much I appreciate it!

You’re very welcome.
I’d say the only thing that you can add are the rubber material like in Todd’s, helps holding the shirt in, I think that’s what’s there for.
But these are definitely the next best thing tonTodds.

Keep up the good work my friend.

After seeing these pictures, I can say that these trousers are one of the best efforts to replicate the indy pants in a material as close as possible to the 100% wool cavalry twill. The drape and overall feel of the material looks incredible.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Croft, could you kindly post some pictures showing the difference in colour between the pants you showed us (Wested/Todds/Cariolian) out in the sunlight and shadow? I am very tempted to order a pair of these. I currently own a MBA(original before NH), Wested and Magnoli's. I do not own any Todd's but I know that the Todd's had the same colour as the MBA ones because Todd matched the colour using a MBA swatch as a reference.

I feel that colourwise, the trousers closest in colour to the original MBA which are available now are the Magnoli's which are slightly lighter than the MBA (I posted some pictures some years ago showing this slight difference). The Wested are too reddish-brown for my taste. I feel that Carolian's trousers offer a great balance between Raiders/LC look.

Thanks!

Indygr, I can’t make any promises, for out side pictures. Leave in the dark, come home in the dark. :(
This weekend is still a maybe for reasons I can’t get into yet.

But as my little green friend would say, future, always in motion it is.
But with that said, go for it, these really are noicly done.
And the color is so close to the Todds.

No worries.

Question for Karolian... how much extra material do the trousers have on the waist? In case for example a size 34 needs to be enlarged to a size 35 in the waist?

Thanks a lot!

There is no too much extra fabric in the seam allowance. I might recommend sizing up to have them taken in vs letting out a pair. Thanks!

Many thanks for the clarification. In case that I order a wrong size, do you accept returns and re-delivery of the correct size? Sorry for asking questions, but I have a very particular waist size. My pants size is a 34 on all respects except the waist, which depending on the cut/design and material, I sometimes enlarge the waist to the 35 size. On some trousers the size 34 waist may be correct on me, on others not so much.

Thanks!

Got the final preview from the Cut/Sew facility for the updated Cairos!

These will be a little longer (5cm longer in length), have the 35mm pleats and placket, double pleated sleeves, and olive buttons. The buttons are a little darker than the previous runs, but those leaned more khaki/tan than olive. Take all the coloring and lighting with a big grain of salt - these are just cell phone pics taken quickly by my rep (as you can see by the shadows hah)

I also did a buyback of overstock shirts (shirts made for different runs but were more than what I paid for initially) that will be a grab bag of previous Cairos, Berlins, and DoDs. So I will have a handful of discounted shirts as well! I just prefer to buy them back than have them destroyed or sold to another outfit.

Shirts look good, can’t wait to see it in person.

Now as far as customer service.
My pants had an issue, this is why I wasn’t sure if I could take out side pictures for comparison.
I reached out, and not only was not a problem, he sent out the new pants even before I’d had a chance to send the old back.
This all transpired on Monday / Tuesday.
Today is Wednesday and my new pants are here, wow, that’s Customer service with a capital C.
I had the Misses send the old back today.

Thank you Adam for outstanding service, thank you.

To Indygr, I wear 33 / 34 in pants, and depending on mfg. both fit.
Now I admit I have stomach, you can see it in the above pictures.

So I have brand new pair of size 34 upstairs, I laid them flat and measured across and I come up with 17’’
So I hope that helps, but if you’re worried buy up one side and take them to the seamstress, not some chain of stores, I got lucky and found one and she’s awesome.

I've received my trousers. These are my first pair of Indy trousers ever! KDG has been nothing but an amazing vendor. I've purchased my DOD shirt and web belt from him as well. I had no idea that Indy pants would have this sort of weight.
I have had suits tailored before but never something like Indy trousers. I honestly have no clue how to go about this process. I'll include pictures here so you can see that they are definitely too long. What should I ask for to ensure the length is properly adjusted while retaining the Indy fit and military hem? Any help is really appreciated as I'm inexperienced with this sort of thing.

Except the length they look really good! :TOH:

I think the easiest thing to do is to take them to a tailor and explain that you want them shorter, but maintaining the military hem. They will do the fit as you want it.

However if you feel like a DIY: From my side I would undo the existing hem (it's just a thread), check the fit, and how much you need to cut from the end (but still having the 4 inches hem). Cut the end, overlock (I hope that is the term) the raw edge and then simply re-sew the hem. If you do not have a sewing machine you can do the overlocking by hand, though it is some work.

Cheers,

Thanks Croft!

Your input and measurements is greatly appreciated!! This will be of great assistance when ordering. I believe 17" is almost spot on to what I wear. I will only need to enlarge it by half inch. The material will also stretch over time.

As you can understand, I have a particular experience with the sizing of the Indy trousers and this started when I ordered my first MBA pants back in the early 2000s. Noel Howard was sewing the Indy pants using the real (upper) waist as a size reference as the old times and not the lower waist which is closer to the hips. So, a size 34" was in reality an upper waist 34 and measured much smaller than "today's" 34. 8-[] I could not travel back then and when my parents came back home from a trip to London and brought me the pants, I had to enlarge the pants by 2 whole inches!! :-0

The only time when I didn't have any doubts regarding my order was when I ordered the Magnoli's pants. These are by default custom sewn to individual measurements.

The Cavalry twill wool is in general a lightweight material. It depends also how much dense the twill is. The KDG pants may be heavier because of the wool/poly blend, but they will protect you better when towed under a truck!!

Until now, the lightest pants that I own in 100% wool Cavalry Twill are the Magnolis, followed by the MBA and Wested which have the same amount of density and weight.

I had intentions to take outside comparison shots today, but when I contacted the seamstress, well she was actually in the area and could
pick them up, sooooooooooooooooooo off to the seamstress they went. \:D/
Couple weeks and they'll be ready, can't wait. So, pictures will be on hold till then.

But these have a nice feel when it comes to weight, the cotton versions while are a nice choice for everyday wear, they areonly slightly heavier.
And they aren't as baggy as my Todds, which I like.

Hey! We are back after maintenance!

Apologies if I have been hard to get ahold of or missing messages on a few platforms. It's tough keeping track of everyone on emails, FB, here, Instagram, theRPF, it's a lot for one person. But I am doing my best to keep up! So please hang tight if you contacted me for an exchange or question.

The Cairo shirts are shipping! :whip:

Like I mentioned here and in the product description, these are longer, so hopefully folks will find the shirts stay tucked a little better.

The original shirts are pretty darn short. The side seam ends above the cuff of the sleeve, so even the last few runs were longer than the screen used shirts. But I guess that's the benefit of having a dresser on set! ;)

All that said, some sizes are already getting close to sold out (medium and large) as are some sizes of trousers (34 and 36) so if you fall in there and were looking, I'd imagine I've got about 2 months left of stock. So no huge rush, but something to keep in mind!

Anyhow, thank you all so much for the support on this run. It's been really incredible to be seeing people enjoy these shirts and trousers (along with the blazers!)

I'm debating adding a Temple shirt this year to round out the line, but I don't want to step on Azumas toes. But it's on my mind. But please let me know if that'd be of interest.

I finally got around to working on my first two pairs of Karolian cotton trousers. I had gotten them in a size 40, which was a bit too big at the time and they only got bigger, since I lost a few pounds:

Image

I undid the waistband at the sides, took in half an inch on each side, and made an overlocking stitch as safety for the main thread stitch. Then I put the waistband back together. They fit a bit better now at least they are not falling off me:

Image

And here they are paired with my Karolian shirt:

ImageImage

The second pair went much faster, but I did sew the pockets too tight. ](*,) Still, they are perfect for biking, where I don't use my pockets anyway:

Image

Thanks again for these amazing pants! I really love the cotton cavalry twill. If you make another run, I might be interested. :TOH:

Cheers,
Bear

Here's a few more in the sun/shade outside.
THESE ARE VERY COMFY PANTS.
Wested (those are on purpose distressing I did) Todds / Karolian woll blende

And I think he did a bang up job with the construction from the pleats, seam on the back and the scalloping of the pockets.

And while this is an inside shot, it's more the back construction details.

*************************************

Now for his new SoC 3rd run, thank you so much for making the extra length, they feel so much better, they don't feel as though there going to come un-tucked.
Color looks to be the same as his second batch, nice and SoC looking.

Great comparison pics! It's always interesting to see them next to each other.

Glad you're liking the added length!

I know some folks are finding them too long for their preferred fit, but remember you can have them hemmed, eliminating the lowest button, and that will give you the same number of buttons as the screen used shirts! :whip:

The ones that have gone to auction show the highest point of the hem hits just about at the transition from sleeve to cuff. But I've been hesitant to have them cut that high as folks already wanted them a little longer. :TOH:

I would definitely be interested. I'm starting to put my TOD build together, and I was planning on buying your Classic and swapping out the buttons. If you decide to proceed, I may just wait it out.

TBH, I am not sure when the TOD run will be if I proceed. I do have a friend who had an audience with a TOD shirt and claims the Classic is *very* close in color - but to be clear I haven't personally seen a TOD in person. Design wise the big difference would be the buttons and epaulettes.

No worries. I realized after I posted that your sale ends tonight, so I'll be ordering the classic anyway. but thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the pics Croft!! They are great and they depict the differences perfectly.

It is incredible to see how the colour changes when the pic is shot with the shirt. It makes you think that the colours is the same like the Todds or MBA. I have already ordered a pair and I am really curious to see the craftsmanship.

By the way Karolian, next time you decide to do a new pants run, if you wish to match the colour to the original MBA Raiders pants, I still have swatches left in my wardrobe. I kept those when I trimmed my pants back in the early 2000s. Just send me a PM and I' ll send you a sample. :TOH:

++

From what I have seen until today, here is my short review of the pants of the vendors which I have details for. It may come handy for folks who want to have the info gathered in one place:

- MBA Pants (Raiders Style - Not available anymore)
Color: Screen accurate. Most probably same as the original movie.
Material: 100% cavalry twill wool, same as the movie.
Cut/Design: Probably based more to LC design. It has the same design look like the Raiders movie with the exception of the backflap pockets design and diagonal seam above the pockets.

- Todds Pants (Not available anymore)
Color: Screen Accurate. Same as MBA. (color was matched using a MBA swatch as a sample)
Material: 100% cavalry twill wool, same as the movie.
Cut/Design: Similar to the MBA but baggier. It had to be trimmed and taken in to fit.

- Magnoli Pants (Cavalry twill wool Authentic Brown)
Color: Almost identical to the MBA Raiders. Maybe slightly lighter. I own both and I can say that when taking pictures, sometimes I have hard time to distinguish them in the photo.
Material: 100% cavalry twill wool. Lighter than the MBA. Feels and seems more distressed.
Cut/Design: Custom measurements needed. Very close to the MBA. Less baggy with more "modern" elements.

- Wested Pants
Color: Strong brown tint to them. Perfect for KOTCS/LC. Not for Raiders.
Material: 100% cavalry twill wool, same as the movie.
Cut/Design: Wested design which is not very close to the movies. I would say the least accurate right now. Except if they have changed their design recently.

- Karolian Dry Goods
Reverting when I will receive them. O:)

SHORT REVIEW **UPDATED**

Now that I have received also the pants from Karolian, here is my short UPDATED review of the pants from vendors which I have details for:

- MBA Pants (Raiders Style - Not available anymore) / Owned
Color: Screen accurate. Most probably same as the original movie.
Material: 100% cavalry twill wool, same as the movie.
Cut/Design: Probably based more to LC design. It has the same design look like the Raiders movie with the exception of the backflap pockets design and diagonal seam above the pockets.

- Todds Pants (Not available anymore) / Not Owned
Color: Screen Accurate. Same as MBA. (color was matched using a MBA swatch as a sample)
Material: 100% cavalry twill wool, same as the movie.
Cut/Design: As per reports from fellow members, it is similar to the MBA but baggier. It had to be trimmed and taken in to fit.

- Magnoli Pants (Cavalry twill wool Authentic Brown) / Owned
Color: Almost identical to the MBA Raiders. Maybe slightly lighter. I own both and I can say that when taking pictures, sometimes I have hard time to distinguish them in the photo. In my opinion, the closest in colour to the Raiders MBA.
Material: 100% cavalry twill wool. Lighter than the MBA. Feels and seems more distressed.
Cut/Design: Custom measurements needed. Very close to the MBA. Less baggy with more "modern" elements which do not affect the overall look

- Wested Pants / Owned
Color: Brown hue. Perfect for KOTCS/LC. Not for Raiders.
Material: 100% cavalry twill wool, same as the movie.
Cut/Design: Wested design which is not very close to the movies. I would say the least accurate right now. Except if they have changed their design recently.

- Karolian Dry Goods / Owned
Color: Different hue than MBA or Magnoli's. MBA and Magnoli's appear brown indoors and grey-green outdoors. Karolian appear grey while indoors. I would say that these pants look in the eye what the camera shows in the RoTLA movie. When paired with an Indy shirt there is no immediate distinguishable difference with a pair of Magnoli's or MBA.
Material: Cavalry twill wool blend. Congrats on Karolian for this choice!! Very clever choice of material. This material keeps the same feel as the 100% wool twill and gives a modern twist by adding some elasticity. I imagine that it keeps also the costs down.
Cut/Design: Very close to the MBA. More baggy than the Magnoli's but less baggy than the MBA. The design has some "modern" elements which do not affect the overall look.

Thank you for the review! It's so helpful to have folks who have experience with several products to post comparisons. Glad you like the wool blend! It took awhile to get right, but it seems to be popular. A good blend (pun intended) or accuracy and comfort.

As a side note, I am working on updating the Berlin shirt for the current preorder beyond what I had already planned.

Looks like we will be going with the same fabric as the previous run (based on people response to the posting of the color choices) based on the photos of the production shirt recently posted by Propstore and graciously made available by the current owner and friends.

I am having a new sample made with the changes, so I should have updated photos soon! The outfit I use is pretty quick with production now that we have a standing relationship.

I am planning on using the sizing scale of the Classic shirt. That seems to be the most popular sizing with wider sleeves, medium length, and a slightly less tapered cut (which can always be taken in by a tailor for <$20 usually)

If this run is popular, I'll have the capital to fund a ToD run as well.

The rub here is price. Unfortunately I have to slightly increase pricing to just build in shipping costs.

My goals been to price all the Surplus Line (items I contract for vs sewing myself) at "mall brand" pricing as I think that's only fair.

But doing my numbers for the past year, it's clear that Etsys fees and free shipping requirement (they purposefully push your listing back - regardless of relevance to search - if you don't guarantee free shipping) that I'm kinda losing my shirt on shipping fees. Pun intended. It won't be huge, but I want to make folks aware that I'm not just over charging just because we are having a sort of Silver Age of Indy right now.

My pants came in, and they look nice, however they don't fit me at all despite being my size being 34, and I ordered 34. Or they would be super tight and uncomfortable to walk in. :( I was looking forward to Indy pants to wear for comic con too. ](*,) Sadly will have to return. Or is it possible I should try to exchange for a 36? I have 2 weeks to return/exchange from point of order. The legs also seem a tad tall for me too.
