British military canvas gear is made to be treated with 'blanco' (waterproofs and colours the canvas) so wonder if a good coat of waxed jacket wax and a go over with a hairdryer to impregnate it into the material would give you a similar result for small outlay?

The canvas is a pretty tight weave and that's usually a good sign it's 'waxable'. Might try that out.

This Frost River bag is already waxed canvas.
Just like a heritage film character's trusted companion, our Archaeologist Satchel is built to withstand the harshest conditions and accompany you on your most daring quests. Made from rugged waxed canvas, premium leather accents, and solid brass hardware, it exudes durability, authenticity, and a touch of vintage charm.

Nice bag -- a bit pricy -- but it's cool! W>

You would need to cut off the original one. It is riveted in place, you can see it in one of the reviewer's pics.

Not sure about the width though... :-k

Thanks! I'm not planning on purchasing one -- but was curious since they are so similar. W>
