DoD Indy's Leather Gear in his Apartment

Post by LNBright »

Also, hanging in Indy’s apartment, there were a couple of cases hanging off of a shelf. One of them, I’m guessing was a case for binoculars, not sure about the other. Thoughts?

I think one was a leather document/map case? Just the end part of it, though it looked rather like a cone, instead of a cylinder. You can see it when they quickly pan over his place. :-k

I saw the ‘cone’, sitting on a desk? I kinda thought it could be a lens case or a telescope case?

The other ones were both rectangular, and hanging by straps on the corner of a wire shelf.

Yeah, I think you are right! I thought the "cone" was an unravelled and sagging cylinder maybe, but what you are saying makes more sense.

I have not noticed the rectangular ones somehow, I gotta check it out next time.

I was thinking the cone was leg gaiters

I think the cone is waaay to skinny to go around a calf. Telescope case sounds like the best option still. :-k

Kinda reminds me of the arm protection that an old Roman Centurion wore.

Made a repro pair once for use on a saddle - lot of work even in a simplified design:

Is the 'cone' shape partly shadow at the back? If straight cylinder most likely telescope or map case as already suggested?

That is really gorgeous work!! I like the brass furnishings too.

I think the shadow theory sounds about right.

Spotted this up for auction - saddlery type carry case for glass alcohol flask.

Very similar slightly conical shape and construction details to the mystery object in the apartment. This one is just under a foot long.

First of all, brilliant find, I think this might be it.

Secondly, that is one beautiful case and wonderfully aged vegtan hide!

Cheers,
Bear
