Some impressions on the Wested gloves

Two weeks ago I finally decided to buy some Wested gloves, after going back and forth for around a year. I received them last Friday, just in time for a trip to the countryside where I got to do some yard-work and some garden-work.

I took some quick pictures before I used them just to have a comparison:





Then I had a long day, making holes for tomatoes, carrying rebar around the garden, fixing hoses and other such things. I was quite satisfied with the gloves, until I took a closer look.

First a picture just after I'd finished work:



Then I noticed the thread on the first row of sewing of the pointer finger had broken. It's clear it was not cut, as it is the thread on the inside of the glove.



When I got home and gave the gloves a bit of a clean up I also noticed the sewing between pinky and ring finger had come undone as well:



My conclusion:

Cons:

- these are made for cosplay, they do not seem to withstand a day's work.

Pros:

- the leather is quite good quality
- they could be turned into much higher quality gloves by switching the thread that is used; it seems it is the weak point.

That’s a shame.
I bought them as well, but the leather feels thinish.
More for getting them dirty (which I haven’t done yet) and you for cosplay only.
Karolian makes some good ones, better, thicker leather.

Challenging to find close enough these days.

A pair from Karolian is next. I already ordered some pants and I'm just waiting to see how they make it over here. If the Romanian post office doesn't lose the package, I know I can order again.

Should have rolled the dice and ordered at the same time.
Wore mine yesterday, light yard work and worked on my Jeeps tires.
Held up nicely.

Thank you! Really glad to hear they are made to be used. Carrying rough, heavy tires, tightening nuts is putting them to a good resilience test.

Also, I gotta say, it's nice that new makers are still popping up!

And, well... I placed the order at both Wested and Karolian at the same time. Never crossed my mind Wested's gloves would be so sensitive to mild use... Went for a bike ride yesterday, gave the gloves another chance as "riding-gloves"... I think they will work ok, if I can fix the loose threads:

As I mentioned, I ended up getting some Crud gloves. They arrived some two weeks ago, but I did not have time to post some pics or impressions until now.

They are very well made, out of very thick leather, but due to the oils they use they are very pliable and soft. I haven't tested them out, but out of the bag they seem to be made for abuse and hard work. They also have very short cuffs, which I love.

They are not screen-accurate, but for me these will for sure do. I love the pattern and the yellow-brown colour. It fits well with the rest of the gear.

Sorry to hear that you had problems with your Wested gloves. Looks like you got a dud pair. I would contact them back, I'm sure they will take care of you. I've had mine for many years now and I do yard work with them all the time. They are holding up beautifully and I can't say they are any different than any other pair of work gloves.

If it weren't so complicated with the import/export I would. Even if they send a new pair I would need to pay the taxes. At least 30% + the courier tax (+ filling out a folder full of papers) is not worth it.

I haven't had much problems with other stuff I got from them, so I am willing to let one gone.

Sorry to hear it's so complicated. I imagine that wouldn't have to happen if they mark it as a replacement for a defective item.

I agree with you! Your logic is sound, unfortunately, it is the Post Office that has a say in it. And the Romanian Post Office has anything but logic....

I have still to find out what happens when a friend outside the EU ships something to you. The Customs says the "receipt" is mandatory... but how can you have a "receipt" for something that is a gift? No, no, the state needs you to pay taxes anyway.
