For bag/satchel, does anyone sell very dark straps and roller buckles?

Bags, Boots, Shirts and all other gear should be discussed here.

For bag/satchel, does anyone sell very dark straps and roller buckles?

Post by SFGiant »

So I know Magnoli sells them but they’re quite pricy after shipping. Before I go the route of trying to make my own, any advice?

Does anyone know where to get roller buckles?

David Richardson at Make It Jones (in the UK, but reasonable shipping to the US) and Spade & Archer are 2 quality options. I have items from both. And there’s also Wade Egan.

Can’t speak to the buckles, but I got a very dark strap made for myself from a tack supply store. Found several stores online. Sent messages with my request, and one replied and were very accommodating. It was over a decade ago, I may have the contact information buried somewhere, but it’s unlikely.

As Herr Doktor says, I do make very dark brown straps in either tooling leather (hand dyed veg tan) or an overdyed premium bridle leather for TOD / LC & CS.

Made to any length you want, these are available plain or pre-aged in screen accurate 7/8" wide (or 1" wide if you prefer). Supplied with film appropriate buckle (cheap to add a second buckle too).

Usually get these made and ready to send out 2 days after payment - https://sites.google.com/site/makeitjon ... bag-straps.

It's fantastic stuff, too! Had a belt and double wrap whip holder made a couple years ago and the holder is the only one I've ever had that holds my whip securely. Highly recommend!

If you're looking for another some top-notch handmade gear, I would check out PenitentManWorks by Kyle Nibbling based in Texas. Personally, I've bought a bunch of stuff from him, and let me tell you, his work is absolutely mind-blowing. I have yet to see a more accurate screen looking strap, look at the texture of this strap, tell that does not look like something straight off the set of temple of doom. Recently, I snagged his new Indy 5 whip holder and matching bag strap, and they're pure awesomeness. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!

Here's an example of the surface on my aged Temple / Crusade / Crystal Skull straps (hand dyed tooling leather and the premium bridle leather). It's a non-destructive process that leaves the surface intact and doesn't weaken the leather but makes it look like it already has years of adventure on it.

That looks really good! And I love the fact it's only appearance and it does not take away from the leather's resilience!

FWIW, my straps not only look just like the worn, shredded hero straps, they are every bit as durable as a new one. I always test them with a 30 lb dumbbell. :TOH:

I just came across Make it Jones's website the other day. I was blown away by the quality, and will definitely be placing an order in the near future. I'm just trying to get my hands on an Adventurebilt buckle.

I scooped up one from Make it Jones. I got the weathered bridle leather and it is HIGH quality. I got a TOD and LC buckle and they are attached with a Chicago screw so they are interchangeable. Pairing it with a "modern" Magnoli bag that should be here Monday. I'll post reviews, but I would not hesitate in purchasing the Make it Jones...
