Help me improve a licensed Dorfman!

I have one of the Licensed Indiana Jones fedoras that the Adventure Outpost used to sell in Disney; it's probably ten years old, and I believe Doorman made these. Its 'fur felt, fairly heavy. I didn't buy it to wear, mostly just a souvenir and I liked the Indiana Jones logo liner.

Id like to at least change the ribbon on it to something closer to accurate, as what's on there is just a weird dark brown- I don't need vintage grosgrain or anything, but can someone point me to a better color ribbon and bow for this? -A ready to be tacked on version would be best. I haven't messed with hats for over twenty years!

I might even steam/crush/reshape this to get it looking a little better, but the ribbon needs to be done first.

If it is fur felt that gives you a decent chance of changing the shape to something more SA, however, if the fur is cheap (which I imagine it is) trying to steam it could cause it to shrink significantly. Cheap fur felt isn't felted as tightly so if exposed to heat/water it can cause the fur fibers to felt more tightly which is a good thing during the felting process, but not a good thing once a hat is made.

In terms of the ribbon, David Garrison, had a supply of the same ribbon used by Adventurebilt that he sold lengths of in the past. You could reach out to him. Dalexs also organized a ribbon purchase from somewhere a few years ago that he made available. He may still have a few lengths to share. Dalexs also has a tutorial for changing the ribbon. It's really not that hard to do. I used his instructions years ago with success which is saying something given my lack of skills.

Add luck would have it, there is a hat supply business 45 minutes from me that had black vintage millinery grosgrain.

I’ve got the old ribbon off and removed the liner to work on replacing the ribbon.

Without having a hat block, I’d there any DIY tricks to get some of this taper out?

You know, looking at the photos, I have no problem what so ever with the current bash it currently has.

I’d recommend changing the ribbon and enjoying it as is. Looks really nice now!

Actually looks like a GREAT YIC fedora! I'd be tempted to but a slightly wider-than normal ribbon on it to complete the transformation.

Or just wear it as is. Remember these hats are not the greatest quality so if you wear it in the rain/snow you may want to use Scotchguard on it first to help protect it from shrinking.

I agree with Indy Magnoli -- in that last photo, it DOES look a lot like the well-worn Young Indiana Jones fedora.

Agreed! It looks fantastic, especially for an older DP! Personally, I think the only change it could use is an upwards curl in the back as that's the look I most associate with Indy. Not to mention, it also makes it look more dressy, and usable in more situations.

I don't even think the ribbon looks that bad. If anything, it looks closer to DoD's ribbon, which was a lighter brown color IMO.
