SA Source for bag strap, holster, gunbelt ( Raiders)

Post by joeyofarimathea »

Hello Indygear-er-ers,

I recently posted this question but never really got a definitive answer. So I've been searching to find what is our source for these items but cant really find out ( maybe its just unknown or being kept secret?)? I think as far as i know the only source has been has been screengrabs, right? Unless there has been an inside source or screenused source that I haven't heard of yet? I even just recently bought my 1st bluray player ( guess im old school) and spent a few hours trying to find a good shot to no avail. So if anyone could point me in the right direction i would truly appreciate it!

Regards, joey

Noel Howard was the original proprietor but he has passed. His gear is very coveted.

Right now a crowd favorite is Makeitjones but there are many out there that make quality product.

Also there's a few sites for screen grabs.

Thank you so kindly BackstageJack.....

I'm not asking for the Vendor, im asking if there has been any revealed details from Indygear history?

Ie: we know that MBA/NH made these items but what other research has been confirmed? Did Noel or anyone provide photos, sketches , details, or photos from screen used straps, belts or holsters? Are there any close up photos ( like this screen used fedora that sold at auction....

I don't think there's any pics of any original straps or belts, or much of a clue on sourcing.

It's one of the reasons for years we thought the Raider's strap had grooves on the edges and after years of work and screen caps we finally figure out it didn't. (in DoD it does now lol)

I know that some of the holsters were actually vintage holsters. The main site has pics of a screen used original LC Webley Holster. As for the belt or bag strap I don't think I've ever seen a screen used original. If we had pics of that, just like the auctioned fedora, I'd also think it'd be on the main page.

I know it was confirmed that rifle straps for the bag were used. Confirmed by Noel Howard in 2001 and the Paramount prop master mentioned it in 1985.The bag strap was apparently picked up in a surplus shop just like the bag was. Now WHAT kind of rifle straps? I think that's up for debate.
Noel graciously brought out a few examples to choose from and asked which version of the strap I would like installed. Noel mentioned that the leather bag straps originally used in Raiders of the Lost Ark were originally sourced from the same surplus stores where the bags were sourced from. However, instead of using the stock webbing straps, the production had these bags changed to leather ones from old rifle slings

Thanks BSJ for the great insight......so I just wanted to be sure I didn't miss any big discoveries as I only come around here about every 10 years or so. And id rathwr not guess or speculate if i dont have to. And at this point thats whatbit is its speculation ( unless i missed somethinh). So grooves no grooves on bag strap or Holster or Holster Belt? Theres been no solid or conclusive evidence other than conjecture and speculation from screengrabs, photos , etc. Because even if it was a rifle.sling that still doesn't prove if / if not there were grooves. Now I don't gamble but if I did. my bet is there's no grooves on any of the items, as thats just more work for the costume designers and prop workers and Raiders was shot on an extremely short and tight schedule. Thanks again for the help.
