Todds raiders revolver arrived. Looks excellent!

Post by flyit14 »

I was able to order one recently and it arrived a few days ago. I forgot to take before pictures but here it is after removing the orange tip, weathering with some sandpaper, and hitting the grips with black acrylic paint. Could probably go darker on the grips but I like it for now.

Let me know what you think!

I believe it’s some kind of plastic with a metal like plating on it.

The dummy rounds are brass I think. It’s lighter than steel but it feels like metal

They probably electroplated it. You use a special paint with metal in it that attracts the metal being used in the electroplated process, probably nickel in this case.

It looks really nice!

I still wish there was a full metal airsoft replica out there, too. Like there is for the Webley...Maybe in time...

This came in today!!! The heavy weight version. Still no metal but feels very sturdy! Now I need to think about some weathering.

Also waiting for the “caps” to arrive for that extra BANG 🤠

Wow, that looks great! I had the longer barrel version. Maybe if I'd had this Indy version I would have kept it. The "shells" were amazing.

Hope it serves you well!

Where do you live? I've been trying to find caps in US, but no dice. The vendors I've found internally who offer them won't ship here. If you have any leads, please send me a PM! :D

Also, if you were interested in getting really crafty with it, this would probably look awesome with the graphite finish Magnoli just used on his 3D printed revolver. Link to the thread here: http://indygear.com/cow/viewtopic.php?p=946831

I’m from Belgium and ordered the caps from here…. https://www.mg-props.co.uk/accessories.htm . Looking in to the weathering from Magnoli… this should work even with some rub n buff

May I suggest browsing in one of the gun collector sites. Filtering for S&W .38 M&P (Military & Police) revolvers will give you a good sense of what typical wear patterns were for long-term usage. A ton of them came on the market as police departments upgraded to semi-autos. Most of the wear is simply the blued finish rubbing off at repeated points of contact (barrel tip, hammer, trigger and trigger guard, back strap, etc.), plus the groove scratched by the cylinder advance. Random scratching will ruin the effect.
Very fine emery cloth should be enough, with lots of pauses to check your progress. :TOH:

Ok, I’m curios.
You say your Todd’s arrived today I looked on his site, I don’t see the air soft.
What am I missing.

Have always wanted for my glass case.
I have the real deal, but I won’t display it so casually.

This is the same brand of S&W that Todd offered years ago, but from a different vendor. These were never Todd’s exclusively, but he popularized them to the US market when he offered them.

Yeah, not from Todd’s … but pretty much what he sold a while back. So I thought it was best to post it in here

It is indeed not the Airsoft version but the “blast cap” version like in these video’s ->

Here's a post from Todd from back in the day.

Puppetboy wrote: Thu Dec 03, 2009 11:54 am It is illegal to remove the orange paint. The feds will raid your house and confiscate your weapon. They'll force you, at gun point, to stomp it to pieces. Crying and pleading will not move them. And if you don't stomp hard enough, they'll start shooting at your feet and tell you to dance. I don't want that for anyone here.

BTW, the orange on this gun was quickly hand painted for this sample. The production models have a nice spray finish.

And now let's talk about a completely different subject - home repair. How many of you have plastic front doors with ugly orange paint on them? When I need to restore my painted plastic front door, a good way to remove the paint without damaging the plastic is with an orange-based paint remover, like the kind you can find at your local hardware store. An alternative is "Easy-Off" oven cleaner. That's an old plastic model kit builder's trick. Also, brake fluid is known to attack paint, but not plastic parts. So using one of these methods, I can strip the paint from my front door without damage, and prepare it for repainting. I think I saw Bob Villa do this.

UPDATE: DON'T use Citri-Strip. It'll turn ABS to mush. I just found that out the hard way.

But, if I have company coming over, AND MY FRONT DOOR WILL BE EXPOSED TO PUBLIC SCRUTINY, I cover my front door with orange tape so no one calls the cops on me and I'm shot dead. As you know, death is fatal.

I did reach out to inquire about shipping to the states, but alas, it would be to costly for one item, seem as though there more interested in a larger shipment to the states to make more lucrative.

Ya I don't think I want to go down that slippery road, it would suddenly make me vendor like, and I've read to many threads where it just isn't worth it.
I'm hoping Todd does another run, or keep my eye's opened in the Bazaar.
