LC binoculars and a case I made for them

Post by bearbeast »

The other week I was watching Last Crusade and Indy's binoculars came to my attention.

"Here's another piece of gear I can spend money and time on!"

I read a bit through the forum about it and after that I went to my local online second hand site. I found two brass binoculars, that were close enough to Indy's. The one on the right (below) is VERY close, I would say.

On the left is a Glaser 8 military pair and the one that is really close is a W.Watson&Sons pair, marked 1903 (production year perhaps?). They both work well, but the Glaser is really crystal clear. The Watson has it's ups and downs, doesn't always focus perfectly, I thin one of the lenses is set differently.

I plan to use them on my trips, but it seems that just throwing them in my bag would damage them more, so I made a leather hard case for them:

It is wet moulded on two beer bottles, and is a very snug fit on the Watson binoculars. Really happy to add this new piece of gear to my collection.

Cheers,
Bear

Thank you so much, Canyon! :notworthy: It took me around 4 hours in total, but there was a lot of waiting in between, waiting for the leather to dry after moulding.

It all looks great. And I'm guessing there were probably multiple beer bottles that needed to be emptied before you could find just the right fit? ;) :TOH:

I recorded the process partially for another case I made. It's not all the steps, but enough to learn how to do it, I would say:

Let me know if something is unclear. :-k
