Ever get that feeling you just want a new jacket?

Just yesterday, I was at work, and I just wish I hadn't sold my Lambskin TOD jacket. I have my goatskin, but it's not the same as my Lamb. Plus I already have my Minority Report jacket, so if I get a new one, I may need to sell my Minority Report jacket(I plan on keeping my goat as my winter coat).

Am I crazy?

And if you're curious, I sold my Lamb jacket because I wanted a durable goat with a bit more room, but I miss that fitted soft feel jacket.

That's the addictive nature of this hobby, at least for me.

My latest jacket is just 3 days old, and although I love it (and it's goat so it should last forever), It has already insipred a few thoughts about my next (fourth) Wested and a new lid!

That's a desire I'll have to curb for a good long while - but to answer your question, 'Yes' I know where you are coming from and 'No', you are not crazy you are a Gearhead!

Don't feel bad, you are in good company. It might be time to start an "Indy Jackets anymous" (I might have heard someone come up with this idea before).

I have had many periodic ‘material’ obsessions that have come and gone or that I have been able to at least manage with some modicum of success. Some included motorcycles and customizing, collecting western art and memorabilia, trying to own every blues, jazz, rock..., music album and CD, or film EVER made, and blah, blah,...etc., but the two main one’s that have lingered on and on for years are anything and everything having to do with electronic gadgets, especially computers and my now close to out of control obsession with cloths.

I have suits, shirts, shoes, jackets and coats for every occasion, in every fabric or material, and color under the sun, and most that I haven’t even worn yet that in some cases were purchased well over a year or more ago. Most albeit were purchased out of necessity but that I now look at and have concluded that I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing now and wonder if there was some subliminal “buy me” message in the musak being piped into the store at the time by some guy behind a back curtain. (...hmm, now I’m not only exhibiting signs of being an obsessive compulsive, but a paranoid one at that, but, then again there must be a reason for some of that awful musak they play - or maybe not.) At least I can say that MOST everything that I’ve purchased because of learning about it through this board have all been ‘keepers’ and I still enjoy wearing, and some items that as of yet have not been purchased but are definitely somewhere on my next to purchase list.

Of course I’m exaggerating just a wee bit - I think, but I sometimes wonder why so many people become consumed with such things as well as other even more destructive obsessions like gambling, online trading, (ehm) collecting rare or old watches, and on and on... Is there a psychoanalyst in the house that can explain this???

This is one of the things I don’t get about some people in the hobby. Why do you have to sell one thing to get another? Is it so you can immediately buy what you want when you want it?

Obviously the choice is yours. But if you got rid of the MR jacket and got a lamb, wouldn’t you be wishing you kept the MR jacket?

Instead of the Instant Gratification, hold on to the MR and save to get the new lamb. If you wanted one, then another time you wanted the other, chances are, you’ll come around wanting the first one again.

I agree Ren. Once you have it, if you don't damage it and it doesn't wear out, you have always got it. Just move on to acquiring something new. Besides, you seldom get what you paid for it because it is used. You just provide a nearly new item for someone else to enjoy at a greatly discounted price. You just end up paying the depreciation for someone else. Honestly, if you have to sell something so that you can purchase something else, then you probably can't afford that item , anyway. Maybe this line of thinking just comes from people with a short attention span. In the automotive world, I guess this is what leads to so many people leasing cars.

I know I would never part with mine. My first jacket was a goatskin, but now that I have a lambskin, I only wear the goat when it is raining. There's just something about a lamb. I never paid any attention to types of leather before this forum appeared.

Interestingly, in Leviticus, God is very specific in what types of animals are appropriate for offerings. The animal for a burnt offering could be a bull, sheep, or goat, but always a flawless male, to be burnt as a 'soothing aroma to the Lord.' [My question - how in the world do you burn a bull?]

A peace offering could be from the herd or the flock - but if from the flock (sheep or goat), it should be a flawless male or female.

A sin offering from a priest had to be a bull, while a leader had to sacrifice a male goat, and for a common person, a flawless lamb or goat was the appropriate sacrifice.

A guilt offering was supposed to be a flawless ram.

I sure would hate to have have to burn up my 'flawless' lamb. Fortunately, I think I am safe, since I can't tell whether it was male or femaile.
