The Herbert Johnson Hall of Fame - A Display Thread
Much like the Federation IV thread, the Penman thread, the Garrison thread, and all the other dedicated hat-makers threads it appears to be the time to start a thread on the fedoras coming out of the Herbert Johnson workshop. It seems like more and more people are hopping on the HJ train so I thought I'd be the one to get this thread started. First off is my Deep Sable beaver Raiders Poet that I received last November. Finally got around to taking some good photos this weekend.

That is one beautiful fedora.
I hope to many pictures of more HJ
My HJ is an old one that Steve Delk reblocked, and I use for my distressed version of SOC, will have to post a pic of it.

Amen, brother! Couldn't agree more, Michelle is amazing. Ranger, hat looks fantastic, and this thread is a great idea. I'm just a wee bit jealous I didn't think of it myself! I feel like I have a whole photo album dedicated to my HJs. Here's a photo of me in my Raiders Poet (no turn), my first hat from Michelle.Ranger36 wrote:Thank you folks! Here's my HJ, re-blocked by Steve Delk a loooooong time ago.
I use it for my dusted look.
It's SOC rabbet felt, which never goes out when it has any hint of rain as I fear what'll happen to the fullers earth.

Croft, you always post the coolest pics. And you seem to have a knack for adding that little something extraordinary, like the scarf here. Excellent.

Thanks guys.
Ranger6 gave me the idea, but I’ve been wearing this scarf awhile, its a nice brown and goes with the hat and leather jacket.
And I love finding place for pic’s

Just received my Streets of Cairo Poet today. Took this quick pic with my jacket. Very nice hat, I am really happy and it fit perfect. Turns out size 58 is perfect.

Curious, you mention Size 58 is perfect. Did you have concerns about size? Was you original order a different size and they suggested going up/down to 58cm?

Re: The Herbert Johnson Hall of Fame - A Display Thread
Thanks everyone, I had originally ordered a Penman hat and was caught up in his illness and was told I would get a refund. So I took the refund to get the Streets of Cairo. I was originally going to order a 57 for size based off of some military headgear I wear. John talked me into going up in size. I am really thankful that I did. I love this hat so far and am glad that my waiting is finally over. I started this process with my original order back in March of 2020 while I was still deployed to the Middle East. Thanks again everyone and I wish you all Fortune and Glory.

Ah, interesting. I typically wear a 58cm and have been advised to go to a 58.5cm when I ordered, but maybe the hatter will push me up to a 59cm. We’ll see.jhoward2762 wrote:Thanks everyone, I had originally ordered a Penman hat and was caught up in his illness and was told I would get a refund. Re: The Herbert Johnson Hall of Fame - A Display Thread
Does anyone have any experience/pictures of the Seaplane Poet by any chance? I’ve been considering scrounging and saving for one (in rabbit, couldn’t justify the expense of the beaver). As much as I’d like the LC Poet something about the Seaplane just calls to me. However, if I can really only afford the rabbit would it be better value to wait for the smoke grey Advintage Harrison to come back in?
Re: The Herbert Johnson Hall of Fame - A Display Thread
If you want Indy’s grey Raider, the seaplane is the way to go, the color is phenomenal, and I truly believe it’s what was seen on screen. It changes from brown to grey depending on the light.Hobbit Fedora wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 1:02 am Does anyone have any experience/pictures of the Seaplane Poet by any chance? It is a stunning hat for sure! I likely would have ordered it in rabbit if it was offered at the time, but they only had the beaver seaplane last year. I love it, and highly recommend it. Highly recommend anything from Michelle, really. HJ is currently relocating her workshop, but I believe they are still only quoting 12 weeks turnaround.

Sadly I'm a little late to this thread, but I'd ordered a rabbit Seaplane a few months back and Michelle just advised me that it's all finished off and on the way out to me in Tokyo now...The one above is amazing, the brown/grey shift especially is just perfect...I'm expecting the same from the rabbit version, and shall post pics once it's here of course! Should be sometime next week!Chose Poorly wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 2:59 pmThanks IJJTM. And oh my goodness! I just kept adding to that Imgur album and hadn't really looked at what I'd done. Exploring the African bush is style, this is my HJ Poet Raiders in rabbit fur. I’ve had it about 3 years now and it’s the go too as I travel across Eastt Africa. My passports clocked up 10 countries in 7months. Some of the trips have been very Indy worthy.

Re: The Herbert Johnson Hall of Fame - A Display Thread
I went with purple, because that's kinda my jam.
If I were picking a liner that I felt (no pun) best suits the hat, I would get olive.
White and champagne are certainly classic, but when given the option, I personally gravitate towards the atypical. If the choice is between the lighter colors, I would get champagne because it reminds me of the color used on some Stetson liners.

+1 for the purple. I have no pictures to hand of my liner but purple was the option I chose as well. It's a beautiful color and fits the hat very well.

I have one with purple and one with olive. I love both, but the purple definitely gets the most compliments. It’s called “regal” for a reason.

Re: The Herbert Johnson Hall of Fame - A Display Thread
That purple looks fantastic thank you for posting pics. If the Indy V hat had regal instead of olive I would definitely get it. I'm a bit torn. I'm really trying to get the ultimate Indiana Jones holy grail of fedoras Herbert Johnson for my first one. If I ever get a second one I can pick any color but right now I feel obligated to get white. I'm trying to be open minded though. I like unusual color choices. HJ's current champagne is hard to tell what it looks like in person. It doesn't seem like the same champagne gold as the vintage ones.
I did buy some olive fabric to put in my current fedora and also my new Akubra Fed IV coming, partly to see what it looks like but also to be like Indiana Jones 5 temporarily. I gotta say I'm not really feeling it. At least not on a permanent liner.
Please let me know if the fabric I chose is close:

Well, just placed an order! I know there will be a rush for these come next year. I am both excited and nervous. It's a lot of money. Any suggestions I should know about as I have time to alter the order between now and production? Do they run a little large?
