Need Help - Chachapoyan Temple Block Display

Post by temple_runner »

Hey guys,

A few years ago I bought one of the Chachapoyan Temple "stone" blocks that rigor was selling. Ever since then it's sat securely in a box since I haven't found a great display for it. The styrofoam is very fragile, so I would need it to be covered in one of those glass-type displays. Does anyone have experience with these or could recommend some quality ones?

Thanks.

I'm guessing you mean a shadowbox display? Basically a picture frame that's extra deep.

You can find them at most craft stores and online. The depth may be tricky depending on how thick the block is. You can have a custom one built at stores that do framing, but that can get pricey.

I've been looking around since I posted this and it seems like a football, helmet, or basketball display might work well for this. I'll have to take the block in to determine if it'll fit.

If you want to display the block vertically or propped at an angle, then, yes, a box used for a helmet or ball could be a good way to go.

I default to displaying any prop that's reasonably flat on a wall. I just don't have the shelf/table space for the size box you'd be using. Plus, in this instance the block was wall set dressing so make sense to me to display it on a wall.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

The problem is how to affix it to the inside of shadowbox if you do that without damaging the prop.

Could you use tacks or pins through the back of the shadow box into the back of the block to suspend it in place? I assume the block doesn’t weigh much so there won’t be a lot of force on the pins.

I had a custom case made for mine by Tom Spina Designs. Fits it perfectly and didn’t cost much more than a pre-made trophy case (football or book) would be.

So, I went to Michaels store today and found a glass football case that worked perfectly. And for only $30!

It has a small plastic piece to suspend the block in mid-air, as well as a mirrored background.

That’s perfect. I misunderstood to what block you were referring. I thought you had one of the wall face masks from inside the temple.
